  • Love this!!!!

  • Informative interview. Thank you : )

  • Very interesting, props to you for seeking this guy out.

  • @SSPX3 He is so interesting! Check out his book for more: funny, pithy pop science.

  • that was brilliant...loved the ending too

  • @kapkone Thanks very much!

  • it feels so weird when you say avery because my name is Avery Gilbert

  • I'm diggin your vids!

  • @aidenryu That's great - thanks!

  • Her facial expression after the mating stance comment was priceless.

  • @MlleButterfly

It was unprofessional. Journalism is supposed to be neutral in order to put the light on the subject, not the interviewer.

  • Great interview! Informative! Now I know I have skin that eats scent. LOL. Ambers and fruity scents work fairly well on me, but incense smells harsh and white florals usually smell soapy on me.

  • Yes, there are so many variables - not only your skin type, but how you perceive smells, either because of how your nose works, or emotional associations we have with them.

  • LOL That was interesting. so he has frozen feminine stuff huh? Who is this guy I want to be his assistant J/k

  • Wow, this was great!

  • Thank you!

  • Hi Katie, how about to review the peoples like Luca Turin or Chandler Burr? I wish it will happen one day in the future ! I really hope so.

  • Oh, I'd LOVE to interview Luca Turin, Tania Sanchez, or Chandler Burr. Such authorities on fragrance!

  • Very helpful. Now I know why some men react to my perfume differently. Thanks.

  • It's interesting how our noses can control our brains.

  • i liked the questions very much

  • Thanks, dekalogue!

  • Hmmm... I smell a rat ! ( :

  • KONAWA LAKE MONSTER VIDEO!!!!!!

  • Tommy Hilfiger cologne is the best male scent I've ever used. Constantly get compliments that I smell nice :)

More expensive doesn't necessarily mean more appealing. I can't stand all those "professional name brand" musks. Always gives me a headache.

  • He looks like he thinks you're either a complete weirdo or the most charming woman he's ever met!

  • Sakuraness, you are very astute! I think it's actually a little bit of both!

  • Hi Katie,

Great interview. You are looking stunning as usual. When you get a chance, do try and smell Amouage Homage and Homage Tribute. I haven't been fragrance searching lately, but these smell great : )

  • Hi cmxxxx - I have Homage in my collection, I'm pleased to say, and wear it all the time! Tried Tribute for the first time the other week - it's fine, but not for me. A floral tobacco that starts masculine and ends feminine.

  • interesting interview!

    love your outfit here Katie!

  • Katie, you're the best...nice interview! Now I understand why my hubby loves onions and hates cheese! BTW, I had to order a sample of Lab 18 because your review of it was highly entertaining. You really are a zoo kinda gal. The perfume was FUN-ky! I couldn't pull it off (I'm just a diehard tuberose lover) but I really enjoyed the adventure of it all! Thanks for all of your wit and wisdom!

  • "the adventure of it all" - that's the spirit!

What tuberoses do you like? I love Frederic Malle Carnal Flower and Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia.

  • Been experimenting w/ Do Son, two from L'Artisan, Tocca, and Fracas (that's w/ a capital F, too..she's one loud lady!) Will have to try FM Carnal Flower and the Lauder private collection next. The

tuberose gardenia sounds right up my flower alley (as opposed to your "furry alley"). This summer I wore Kenzo's eau de fleur Magnolia during the day, but jacked it up after dark wearing Manoumalia, both post K.P. reviews. Your hard work really pays...for me! ;^)

  • Really interesting! Thank you :D

  • Cool background! Is it part of a set that was constructed just for this or was this done on location?

    Cool interview, BTW. Very informative.

  • Glad you like my "padded cell". It was shot on location. Thanks for the props.

  • Wow.....it always amazes me how people in academia feel completely comfortable speaking about things they obviously know nothing about and have no experience with. Particularly interesting since this is exactly the type of expert who should be doing research on pheromones in humans but isn't.

While this armchair quarterback is basically dismissing them. There are thousands and thousands of people who use commercially available pheromone products that will happily tell you that they work.

  • Great interview!!, great shoes! loved it

  • My shoes and I thank you.

  • My fiance can't smell, the nerves in his nose were damaged by an allergy test when he was 5 years old. He still enjoys food, but it is awful to think about how much in life he misses because he can't smell.

  • Oh, that's too bad! I'm sorry to hear that, dazigg.

  • So good to hear I hit all your questions!

And yes, I'd love to chat up Luca T - if you're out there, Luca, I'm ready and willing...

  • I was just thinking what an awesome job he had and started fantasizing what it would be like for me until he said he had to sniff defrosted feminine hygiene products that have previously been worn. Ugh power to you man.

  • That was awesome because when I was 12-years old I nicked named my stinky little sister "onion pits." She had to start wearing deodorant at age 6 or 7 cause she gets RIPE. I am sending OP a link to this right now!

  • Ha-ha - that's great!

  • Learn something new everyday...lol. Great video!

  • I smell everything! lol New books, freshly laundered clothes, fruit, veg, everything! lol love it love it love it! xxx

  • Ha-ha, me too! There's a certain plastic wrapping smell I can't get enough of, and it also comes out of a clothes steamer I use. I think it reminds me of opening Xmas presents when I was a kid.

  • I told my boyfriend... you gotta watch this interesting video. He was really into it until the end... ha ha! Guys, sometimes when it comes to "women" stuff, they cringe. Great video. More! More!

  • Very interesting. You're so funny =)

  • OooOOOoo! I love learning : D

  • Really interesting! More of these, Katie! I'm going to go smell my boyfriend until he wakes up. The lazy bugger

  • Hee-hee!

  • Loved this! Just like I love your videos, they way you present them in that tongue and cheek manner is fantastic. Highly entertaining and interesting. The lightheartedness of it was a great vacation for my mind that bogged down with college finals.

    Thanks! Keep them coming. =b

  • Hope you enjoyed your brain vacation. You're welcome here anytime.

  • that was sooo funny at the end i even cringed at the thought lol....can u try essence by narsico rodrdgeuz i love it (i smelt a sample in a mag) buy my hubby says it smells like hospitals ,it does sort of have a sterile wipe smell to it but i would be grateful if you could tear it apart for me b4 i buy. xx

  • Ha! Funny observation on Essence! I'll review it.

  • This was ridiculously interesting and entertaining. Thank you!

  • 1:14 FTW

  • cool!

  • this is really interesting..thanks for this xx

  • Very cool!

  • You are the best! Thank you for this interview.

  • very intersting

  • Excellent interview. Perfect interplay. Avery did a fine job of communicating technical concepts in an understandable non-techy manner. Way to go!

  • Good to hear, allanstreit.

  • I watched it all Katie, It is so helpfull, but the pheromone thing,he didnt say if the one in the market is usfull

  • That's because Avery's saying that they don't really work.

  • thank you Katie for this effort,I watched half of it now,I will finish it later

    love you

  • thanks Katie,in general YOU are the BEST

    I love you

  • aww, thanks!

  • The one called "Paris Hilton" in the bottle with the wiggly line on it.

  • Great interview! Informative and fun!

  • this was a fascinating video almost like i would have never thought to speak to a sensory psychologist but since watching this am amazed at what he said!! You never think ur everyday sensors mean so much till you really think about it. Great video and i agree with a previous comment i missed you...until next time :)

  • So glad you enjoyed the talk as much as I did - Avery has a lot of fascinating stuff to say!

Btw, I don't like jasmine, and I feel relieved :)

  • lol!

  • what is the background music in every video?

  • "Perfume" by Sparks from their "Hello Young Lovers" album.

  • Ooh, this was really interesting.

Could you do a review of Lola by Marc Jacobs?

  • AWE. SOME.

  • Thank you! I really enjoyed this interview, intersting and very nicely conducted.

  • Appreciate you saying so!

  • This was so interesting. thank you!

  • im gratefull for katie puckrik's existance

  • What a great video! Thanks Katie, for all the information... :)

  • Good work, good to know these things.

  • Awesome interview Katie! My grandmother actually has no sense of smell so this was very interesting to me. Thanks for posting!

  • It's the one called "Paris Hilton" in the bottle with wiggly lines all over it.

  • avery is great too, he sounds so interestin, i wish i had teachers like him so i actually listen lol

  • Avery is so interesting, isn't he? And it book is filled with friend-bombarding facts. Just about every page I read, I was telling my husband, "listen to this one!". I think I ended up telling him the whole book, lol.

  • great idea and questions for an interview. thanks for the info katie. now im goin to go bombard my friends with the new things i know :)

  • haha that was veryy... informative. lol i don't understand why you don't have a gazillion subscribers!! ur videos are so awesome:)

  • Thanks, purplecrown!

  • Thank you, I learned a lot!

  • Sick, that guy had to smell some funky draws! *barf*

  • I think he may have smelled dethawed tampons/pads.

    Ickk.

  • Wow! Loved the interview, Katie! All my scent questions answered. Being the 'scent whore' that I am, I've always wondered if my sense of smell was somehow stonger or more sensitive than others. When I was pregnant I felt as if I could smell someone's BO from a mile away! And, afterwards that strong and sensative sense of smell has stuck with me. That was really interesting. Thanks, Katie!!

  • Thanks, MTB! It's a fact that a woman's sense of smell becomes more acute during pregnancy, in order to warn you off spoiled food & drink that could be harmful to the fetus. And Dr Gilbert was telling me that generally, woman have a stronger sense of smell than men.

  • loved it! I dearly hope as you did that those "feminine odors" don't end up in any perfumes!

  • lol. loved the interview. totally grossed me out at the end.

  • hahah katie you're so funny. you have a very quirky sense of humor

  • Cheers, RainbowMonkey!

  • Aw, you look so pretty Katie haha

  • Gee, thanks!

  • interesting...

  • Lmao, expert in 'smell' xD
