i say bird was the best pure and clutch shooter in a era of great forwards(wilkins, barkley, worthy, magic, karl malone, mchale too..etc) but not best all around player, Oscar Robertson probably is the best all around, dude averaged a triple double for 2 seasons and almost for his whole career...but my alltime starting line up would be MJ, Magic, Bird, Russell(13 rings, ultimate leader), and oscar robertson...

@CVB3000 At 6'5''PG. Oscar would not have averaged 10+ rebounds a game in the 80's. Bird was better at many more things than Oscar. To me Bird is what Oscar would be in the 80's. Bird was 6'9'' so that gives us some idea of how much the NBA evolved. The 80's was the first decade to show true competition and pushed the players to true professional status. Russell was considered to be the 1st or 2nd best in the league and he only average 41% at 18.3 ppg. He was great on D, but offense was sub par.

No one will ever get near to or replace Larry, nor indeed Magic, Isiah, or MJ. Game is good these days dont get me wrong but hardly has the diversity or character that there was back then. Ever wonder why there are so many tribute compilations for those guys?
