  • Hi, I love your videos! I've been watching a couple of them and I understand that you aren't a professional or anything but i just have one question: What is your hair type? Im a 3c and i was in the process of transitioning. Yea, everybody's hair is different but its still good to have some type of image to show how their hair might look. But once again...i love your vids and keep em coming :)

  • i just decided yesterday to go natural for the first time in my life ever and i just want to say thank you for posting all of these videos! i've never even considered going natural before as i'm one of those ladies who was raised to rely on relaxers and the stylist (and was never even suggested to go natural as an alternative). keep up the great work and i hope to see more videos from you as i continue my transition and upkeep of going natural :)

  • i have getting relaxers since i was 11 years old, (right now i'm 14) I have transitioning since august 2010, and i always think about getting a relaxer every time i see my natural curly hair, but seeing your videos makes me not get relaxers, and i know in the long run, i will have healthier NATURAL hair.

    thank you :))

  • My other concern is that since you don't have a relaxer, you must really have a nice grade of hair coz' mine will sweat out even with a press. It's terrible so I do want to go natural but I'm scared due to style, and military regulations. Or can I just opt for micros or cornrows?

  • I just discovered you and I'm hooked. You're my new inspiration!!!!

  • This is by far the best video that I have seen on this subject. Your common sense approach is refreshing and encouraging.

  • @akadivinity: Thanks. I appreciate that. Glad you found it helpful!

  • Great video!!! Thanks for the info...i use to have natural curly until i was constantly bashed about having it in high school...ppl would talk about my fro and how big it was or why i would wear my hair that way....i love your videos it encourages me more to like transition now...i feel beter especially with your tips!!! Thanks :)

Do you have a page on FACEBOOK...IF SO PLEASE POST IT!!!

  • LOVE THE INFO!

  • I am at the very beginning of my journey. My last relaxer was 11 weeks ago. I've been considering going natural for a few months and decided to take the leap in this new year! I love the video's and have subscribed. I look forward to checking out your blog!

  • How long did it take for all the relaxer to get out of your hair when you went natural? do you have to trim your hair to help it grow when you are going natural?

  • How long did it take for all the relaxer to get out of your hair when you went natural?

  • For the past 18 years, I have been going to the salon bi-weekly to get my hair done. I've been transitioning for 3 months and within this time, I realized that I didn't know how to take care of my OWN hair because I was so use to going to the salon getting it done. This is truly a journey that I love traveling because I'm learning about my hair and I must say thank you for your valuable input, you have been a great help!

  • hi princess. i am new to your channel. I got my last relaxer in oct 2009. i did not bc either. I could not do it. i did weaves for awhile, then braids. this summer i rocked twist. i trimmed my hair once a month and i kept my hair mosturized. i co-washed reguarly sometimes 3 to 4 times a week. i have about 2--3 inches of perm left. you have to find what works for you. i did not go natural to join the band wagon. i just like my hair in its natural state.

  • @gina0613 I know it might sound weird, but did the relaxed hair fall out? I'm looking forward in having natural hair just scared that I will end up with having short hair.

    Thanks

  • @Anni619 not sure what you mean by fall out--it did not. you must have your hair trimmed on a regular basis in order for the relaxed hair to grow out. you have to i repeat you MUST keep your hair hydrated and moisturized at all times, this will reduce the amount of breakage. I am personally considering chopping of the last 2-3 inches to be done with it. Moisture is your friend.

  • I AM 7 mths post, long relaxed hair. did you find that your relaxed strands were thin? what did you do about it? - i have looked at your videos and trimmed my ends but together wid my natural hair its so see thru!! I dont want BC yet! at the moment i have flat iron usually do twists but i like to change up! ... any suggestions?

  • your hair is beautiful! I'm just starting my journey, so I am really receiving your advice!

  • thing is when you have been relaxed for so long it most likely has taken you years to develop a regime that works for you and your hair. To step out of that norm for most women who wish to transition is a very scary thing. As a result some questions seem, to those of us who are there already, completely unnecessary even to the point of being silly. I do sympathize.

  • thanks for the infor.,

  • Ahhhh THANKS SO MUCH you've given me the inspiration to continue on my natural journey. I'm experimenting daily not crazy about WASTING $120 on 2 of Ms. Jessie's products but you live and learn. I'll say give or take it's been about 6 months for me and it's definitely a transiton...I even did the BC in the back however being that I have length to my hair it covers the BC portion if I don't have it in a ponytail. I'm even clipping my ends and I'm not a beautician nor a magician:o) AGAIN THANKS!

  • i totally agree.

going natural is not rocket science

I have heard everything from "ima wash my perm out n go natural" to "ima deep condition and get rid of this perm to go natural"

    WHAT??

sodium hydroxide causes a permanent change inside of your hair. it cannot be washed out or stripped out

  • you look like ashanti

  • ok i get everything you are saying but u have a good grade of hair ur hair is not course and nappy wat about people who have the opposite of ur hair? our hair is not like urs

  • ok i get everything you are saying but u have a good grade of hair ur hair is not course and nappy wat about people who have the opposite of ur hair? our hair is like urs

  • i am bout to go natural.!

  • Very good video! I enjoyed. I hope my transition goes well. So far so good!

  • I love your videos!! I"ve wanted to go natural since my sophomore year in college (I'm now in my junior year). I'm a hairstylists daughter, and unfortunately, she relaxed my hair when I was 3. I understand that she was experimenting so I"m not upset about it at all. Now that I'm older, I really feel stronger about it. Looking at my new growth right now, I can see how BEAUTIFUL my natural hair could be! So, thanks for all the encouragement! It will be a long process, but I'm excited!

  • u sound like the Ciara the singer

  • I have wanted to go natural for a while. My sister and all her friend have gone natural and I have been thinking about it but don't really know how to get started. I have always had problems with my hair well mostly my scalp with flaking and sometimes even bleeding and now I have the thickness I just want the lenght. Even though I have had a lot of problems in the past could I still benefit from natural hair, because I really want to stop getting realxers

  • Great lipstick! What brand is it?

  • I agree with Mswonderfulme. I am thinking about going natural and you have really gave alot of insight on natural hair and how to do so... and I thank u for ur vids... they are very helpful! So talk on!!!!!

  • i have a question!!..and before i ask i would like to say that your videos are so inspiring..and you pen point everything perfectly...BUT anyways my question is..does putting a rinse on your hair damage it,or ruins the purpose of going natural??..because i love jet black or blue black on me..its beautiful..bt if it damages my new growth then i can do without..i love how my natural hair is growing in,ive been going natural without the BC since january:)..please reply, thanks.

  • Stop gettin those perms peeps lol thats all lol Love your videos their very helpful

  • Thanks for making these videos, they are really encouraging and inspiring :)

  • i love this look chicka! im going from relaxed to natural right now.

  • I noticed that someone told you that you talk a lot. I don't agree. I appreciate all the research that you have done and shared. It takes a lot of time to create and maintain blogs and video blogs. So, thank you. Keep up the good work.

  • @Mrswonderfulme: Thank you so much hun for the support! People who say that act as though I'm making vids just for them. I don't understand why some feel the need to leave rude comments like that, because if they don't like the vid or my style, they should press pause and move on!

  • @DPrincess28 i would like know if you recommennd stripping the perm out of your hair or would that cause more damage

  • Thank you so much for both of these videos!!! I have begun to transition by not having a perm in about 4 months, and had my hair braided about a month ago. When it's time to remove the braids, I'm going to have the ends trimmed, and then try another option. Again, thank you so much for the inspiration!

  • on my goodness oh my goodness oh my goodness i love your patience you have the wisdom and the speech technique i need....you explain everything in one sweep but at the same time you make it knowledge worthy....again i am glad you have these blogs because you make the transition easy

  • okay im in the process of going natural....can i do a quick weave to while im waiting for it grow out...just as long as the glue isnt on m hair and scalp

  • i'm 14 years old and i have always wanted to grow out my hair natural but no one had ever told me that if yu let the relaxer grow out you'r hair would those natural curls i've always wanted to have those curls and you'r information has helped me through this much love briana

p.s. i'm useing my moms account to write this feel free to write back just let my mom know:)

  • I have wanted to go natural for so long but I didn't know the first thing about it. I didn't even know how close to being natural because I have never relaxed my hair. I was just blowdrying and and flat ironing my hair way too often. After watching your bun-out, braid-out and especially your hawaiian silky video I had NO fear about going natural. I have found a new love for my hair. I have even started exercising again. Thank you so much.

  • I am 13 years old and yeasterday i made the choice to go natural but im confused because i want to cut my relaxed hair off but at the same time i dont want my hair to be like very very short so i was wondering if i could like cut off the relaxed part little bit by little bit and wait untill i get some new growth to finaly do the big chop.

  • @imanigallop Yes you can cut you perm ends off lil by lil , dats wat im doin cus im goin natural too , look up info on the google for more help lik takin care of it nd doin treatments to your hair .

  • Haters need to shup up! WORD

  • Hi, I am going Natural and uploaded my video to share my story, but wanted to know how do you go about getting samples of products.

  • I usually go 2 mnths or so before I relax my hair. I remember my natural curl before I relaxed it and I loved it. I was a tomboy so it made a pretty afro lol. My problem now is that I love my newgrowth texture and I want to go back natural but now adays my nape and edges (including the very front) always end up with the crunchies. You know the dry hair that sounds crunchy when you scratch it lol. Anywho any tips that can help me moisturize it better so I can get back natural w/out the crunchies?

  • you said in the first video not to stress the hair alot with braids and stuff, im tryna transition but my hair is short so i wear sew ins alot, if i take it out i wont have any clue what to do with my hair, because im not doin the BC so part will be relaxed and the other part will be natural, since i DO need to give my hair a break, what should i do to it when i take out the weave?

  • @missbarbie2011 she has a video on that

  • @bmore1991 can u tell me which one?

  • @missbarbie2011 U could look at "Transitioning From Relaxed to Natural: A Few Tips". She also has a lot of hair tutorials that u should check out and she also has many videos that answers hair questions and just talks about hair. I'm currently transitioning and I've seen the majority of her videos.

  • Iam so glad that that I stumbbled across this my man is mixxed with black and native and has beautiful hair and said one day why can't black women grow their hair and that started my journey,I had to prove him wrong and not just to prove him wrong but to put knowlege about sisters and black in general,UR video is my favorite and ur right up on my level hope to keep in touch with u I'll let u know how Iam doing

WE NEED MORE SISTERS DOING THIS HAIR JOURNEY WEATHER OR NOT UR RELAXED OR NATURAL

  • great video : )

  • I love it when you say..

"this is just reality...transitioning from relaxed to natural is not rocket science people..."

    SO TRUE!!

Its just a decision to switch it up people. Its not a big deal. If you don't like after a good 6 month effort of working with it, nobody said you cant relax or texturize it again.

    Anyway, love your videos girl!

  • I definitely understand where you are coming from. The only problem I amm having is just keeping my hair moisturize. I am 8 mths post. You are right you do the same basic steps that you did when you were relaxing. I am clipping my ends after I take my braids out. Keeping my hair braided has help me transition.

  • I'm curious: how do you protect your natural hair (when straigntened) against humidity-- do you have an 'anti-frizz' tip?

  • i dont think she talks too much. i have paid attention to every word and everything she says is important. i am going to go natural and i want as much info as possible. all the videos are filled with so much info

  • i dont think she talks too much. i have paid attention to every word and everything she says is important. i am going to go natural and i want as much info as possible. all the videos are filled with so much info

  • I love your hair! What shade of brown are your bangs? Im tempted to dye my entire head around that shade.

  • Just out of curiousity, what do you think of micro braids or any kind of braided extensions as a protective style while transitioning?

  • Comment removed

  • is the color in your hair considered a harsh chemical? or is it just in regrads to relaxers?

  • Love it! Keep it real!!! Thank you.

  • How long did it take for your hair to fully grow out of the relaxer

  • Does putting roller in your hair damage it??

  • really love your videos I personally haven't had a relaxer for over 7 months Now and I feel so much more free since I haven't had a perm. Your videos are really helping me alot I'm definately subscribing.

  • i love you!! you were the first natural i subscribed to on youtube!! you have been great inspiration!!

check out my channel please :)

  • @blackbarbiediva13: Unnecessary to who? Trust, I get bombarded with a ton of questions, so what may be considered common knowledge to one person isn't so with another.

  • @blackbarbiediva13

What do you mean she talks a lot? She is simply talking about hair and how to take care of it/transition from relaxed to natural. This video purpose is to talk about that, so there for this comment does not make any sense...

  • It all depends on the person's hair type whether or not they can use the same products on natural hair as they did on relaxed hair. Most of the products that worked well for my relaxed hair do absolutely nothing for my hair since I've been natural the last 5 years. I certainly had to change the products I used! Most products on the market cater to relaxed hair, and are not made to provide enough moisture for natural hair. By the way, I love that eyeshadow you're wearing. It's so cute!

  • I need some encouragement.

How long did it take for your hair to grow to the length it is now after your BC?

  • @VersatileMind4Christ : I didn't do the BC

  • @DPrincess28

oh sorry. LOL. Well, your hair is an inspiration anyway. :( Sigh My hair frizzes up in my tweeny weeny afro. I've been told I have 3C/4A curls.

What do you do for frizz control? I'm semi-sad

  • @DPrincess28 but didnt you say that it all broke off? sooo...basically you didnt do the "big chop" but it all broke off, so it had the same affect no?

  • have you tried any of the miss jessies products? or curl activators? do they work for you? i've been getting my hair relaved for as long as i can remember and i'm 18 now and my hair is pretty healthy but i wish i would have had the option to get it relaxed because now i'm so addicted to the relaxer. and my hair is crazy thick i break combs doing it lol

  • Thanks for doing this video I had a major setback in my natural journey. You are so right its an emotional and psychological journey too. God bless.

  • Great video! I have been transitioning since November of last year officially but my last relaxer was 12/31/08.

I really like how you aren't preachy about being natural and you give great advice. I'm a happy subscriber of yours. :)

  • Lol, I love it. Keep doing what your doing. Thank you for the guidance, some of us appreciate your information.

  • Yes, I agree with you a 100%. These videos you provide should only be used as a guide for those who are venturing out to exploring natural haircare but it is up to the indivual to go on the actual journey themselves. You can't do it for them and they may have to take different steps and paths than you did.

  • Great video, thanks for taking the time out to make it!

  • good info...you sound just like kim from kimmaytube btw

  • so basicly just don't use a perm....and or relaxer..

  • u r soooooo right.

  • OMG U HAVE A BEAUTIFUL GLOW =)

  • @MyNaturel: Thanks!

  • I've been looking for your video on "Heat Damage". Am I mistaken? I can't find it !?????

  • Hi DPrincess28, you are soooo right about going natural is about having the emotional support. When I BC'd back in Dec '09, that is exactly what I needed. ppl did not compliment me on my hair and I felt it must look bad so I made the decision to wear a weave until I would be comfortable with the length. Hopefully that will occur next month after being natural for 6 months. Thanks for the vid!!

  • For me, going natural was like entering "a whole new world". I was the type of woman that was at the beauty shop every week or every two weeks religiously. I did not know how to take care of my hair UNTIL i decided to go natural and learned how to take care of my hair through youtube. I think this is why you get so many questions making it sem like it is a big deal. However, I thank you for your advice. You were the first person I watched and reallyhelped me decide to go natural. THANK YOU!!!

  • hmm...in my opinion the whole go natural thing is over rated to me..alot of people make it seem like if ur natural that ur hair gonna be atuomatically healthy, this isn't true, relaxed or natural if u take care of ur hair it will be healthy. My hair relaxed and extremely healthy, thick, and almost in the mid of my back now.

  • @4066jks: You're right because it really boils down to how well you care for your hair. However, there are some women whose hair really can't tolerate a relaxer, and the only way their hair can flourish is to go natural.

  • @4066jks well thats tru but ur hair is ur haiir if u like it relaxed great natural great but u cant say sumthing is "overreted" unless u try it.... but u dnt havta try it.... htw am i talkin abt??

  • I just wanted to tell you that you for all of your informative tips and videos you have posted. Your first video on hair tips is the very first natural hair video I seen here on youtube and from then on I decied to try the natural journal. I transitioned for a year and ten months and I just had the rest of my perm ends cut on may 05 of this year. My hair has grown tremendoulsy since I have stopped relaxing it and I just again want to thank you for all your help tips.

  • hair is fierce!

  • @eric512140: Thanks!

  • @DPrincess- I totally agree with you transitioning is pretty easy I have been transitioning for about 5 1/2 months, and my new grow is very manageable for me now. I am proud to say I did a flat twist out and it came out really nice. To everyone else reading this I want you to know that the only thing I had to get used to in this process is the conditioning and moisturizing my hair more.( I never really did these things as much when I had a relaxer) Also I am not doing the big chop. ;-D

  • I love your videos. I have learned plenty form you. You are so to the point, i love it. Keep up the great work.

    Thank You so much.

P.S. Can you do a tut on the make-up in this video?

  • @dyamondeye: Thanks and yes, I can :-)

  • I absolutely LOVE your color. What is the color of your bang area (the top layer)? I'm thinking of coloring my own hair, and that's beautiful.

  • to go natural did you do the big chop?

  • Didn't know u had a blog girl, i just favorited it!!! Your tips are always simple & i like them!

  • People are lazy and that's why they don't look at ALL your other videos. Love what you do it's been very helpful! Thank You ;0)

  • Great video, I have been transitioning just under 2 yrs no big chop, the breakage was a challenge at around 4 months but that eased up and now I just shampoo and deep condition once a week, moisturise daily, occasional protein treatment and faithfully trim every 3 months, twist out my hair to blend in the 2 textures although there's not much of the relaxed hair left now...biggest thing like you said was the release of the relaxer addiction! and patience to grow it out...take the mind of both!

  • What if hair breaks, because I am currently transitioning and i had major breakage, should big chop then or braid it until it grows down?

  • I agree with everything you said in this video. Transitioning is a very personal and but encouraging journeyf for the most. Its good that you are very honest with your subscribers.I feel you are just a good reference in my journey I will definetly keep watching your videos. They are helpful. Be Blessed

  • @xoxoPrincess24 I was just agreeing with u that's all LOL

  • I agree with everything you said in this video. Transitioning is a very personal and but encouraging journey. Its good that you are very honest with your subscribers.I feel you are just a good reference in my journey I will definetly keep watching your videos. They are helpful. Be Blessed

  • Always look forward to your updates. You were the first youtuber to help me and my friends make that decision to go natural...So far I have sent about 20 potential transitioners your way. I think you are the best inspiration for those who aspire to go natural. Thanks again. Looking forward to more vids.

  • You are so right, its like relaxers became engrained into our culture. I can see you're kind of frustrated by repetitive comments lol your videos are very informational they answer all the questions.

  • @xoxoPrincess24: I don't think she was actually replying to you, but moreso to our misinformed friend. She just piggy backed on your comment. Most of us seem to agree that the attack on my so-called "negative comments" were unfounded.

  • I love this video because it is very informative and you are knowledgeable on natural hair. I have been natural for 9 years and yes it is alot of styles you can do with being natural. Keep on making these videos.

  • girl u rock! keep these very informative videos coming! PEACE

  • luv yur channel, been transitioning for almost a year...could not stand the 2 textures so did the big chop 2day...I'm free at last...thru transitioning I wore wigs so still haven't been in public with my natural hair yet but will do it 2moro its a big step guys pray for me...lol will tell you how it goes ...

  • love ur make up

  • Very nice vid as always :-)

  • I enjoyed your tutorial i wished you had a weekly show i always go back and watch your videos when i ned to and like you said you havecovered what there is to know and i have used this info to the point i am so proud of myself and again thankyou for all of your advice my 13 year old is going on a natural jorney with me i am enjoying my naturalness

  • Wonderful video! I transitioned for a yr. I [continued to wash & condition my hair every wk. I also used moisturizer, oil, & found a heat free style. I rolled my wet hair onto satin rollers, allowed it to dry for at least 8 hrs, unrolled, moisturized, sealed w/ oil, and picked it out. At night I just tied it up, and in the morning I moisturized, oiled, and fluffed it out. Sometimes transitioning is easier than we make it ladies. The worst part is dealing with the 2 textures. You can do it!

  • girl that hair is getting looonng. Im sitting here with my hawaiin silky now (thanks to you :) keep up the good work

  • Nice video! I started transitioning with your videos! Now I'm about 98% natural...only 2-3 trims away....

    Thanks for your help!

  • I am relaxed and I love your channel. You are very articulate, you keep it real and are respectful of everyone's differences.

  • @AnnyKeyz: Thanks hun. I appreciate your kind words and support :-).

  • Great video

  • @xoxoPrincess24 maybe she skimmed thru the vid but one has to know their facts first before accusing another about something that if they've open up their ears wouldnt have missed. finey

  • i chopped all of ma hair n i really love the fact that i can experiment with my hair during its natural state and its not hard to manage at all and i have 4b some 4a hair. sometimes we just need to take the time to just show our hair some tlc. thanks for the inspiration. finey

  • is that silk elements sante bronze in the front of your hair?

  • Love both vids! Great tips!!!!!!

  • LOL @ "it's not rocket science..."

but that is SO true! all you have to do is like you said STOP getting relaxers! not much else changes.

all this hair stuff is mind over matter but i just think that too many people beleive that there has to be some kind of "magic" or "secret."

i'm 71 weeks post this week & i can attest there is no secret...

  • thanks for vids

  • Great video lady I am going to pass this along to a friend.

  • Thanks for another great video. I have been following your blog for the past twelve months as I transition. The information provided has helped in my journey. My go to style is a ponytail and I have found a routine that works for me. Like you said it is all about getting to know your hair and what works for you. I hope you do another hair challenge soon.

  • I watched part 1 to this video months ago and I think the best advice was to treat all of my hair as if it is natural when transitioning. I started my transition in Oct 09 and BC'd last month and I love being natural. Thank you for all of your videos.

  • just want to say thanks for all your videos and blogs. I have been following you for a while and really appreciate your tips.

  • @TIKIDEEK: You're very welcome, and thanks for your support!

  • Love your eyemakeup! Pink is so pretty on you! ;o)

  • I may have missed it in this or other videos, but do you bother with balancing moisture and protein products? I'm 9 months into my transitioning and I've seen a bunch about giving your hair protein, but I know I don't.

  • part 1 covered ALOT of helpful information for transitioners. Being 10 months into transition, it was one of the first videos I used to assist me in the process. Its SO important, b/c some people's hair can withstand the line of demarcation, and some people's hair need CONSTANT MOISTURE--or else it WILL break off. So, belated THANK YOU to DPrincess28 for the needed info.

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • @loveshopping4stuff : Wow, you really weren't paying attention then, were you, because I said nothing negative about relaxers. In fact, I stated that it is a personal preference whether you choose to relax or not, and those that don't like the transitioning process can go back to relaxers.

  • @DPrincess28 i don't remember you saying something negative about relaxers.... you were just speaking to those who want to transition. I love it when ppl don't pay attention..keep doin what your doin DPrincess.

  • @Rashanab: Thanks girl!

  • @loveshopping4stuff you reall were not listening to what she was sayin nor the point of the entire video

  • @loveshopping4stuff ha, wow. someone is way too sensitive because she said nothing negative about them and never has in any of her videos.

  • you look very pretty as always in your videos

  • @tdbrown88tdb: Thank you!!

  • I agree!

  • That is exactly what I couldn't understand when I started watching you tube vids on natural hair ( transitioning process) where I come from like you said you just don't put in a relaxer!!!

  • SO helpful!! May ask what is your homemade DC of choice? (If you have one)

  • I just have one question, I went to the store and bought some of the Hawaiian Silky Product and on the bottle, It says its a texturizer. I am confused as to what product you used in your video, was it a different product made by them? Can you tell me what its called?

  • @xxBEAUTYSxPAINLESSxx: The picture of the bottle is in the video. The product I use is a moisturizer.

  • next year i'll have my prom, after that i'll stop with relaxing my hair

  • you made partner!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEah

  • Simply Thank You!

  • @pinkpornstar1: You're welcome!

  • Comment removed

  • I have a question lol i am natural but i do want to dye my hair. have you ever experienced bad breakage from the dye in your hair?

  • @yumyum215: No. Only when my hair was relaxed. But, be careful, because dye can be very drying to the hair, even when it's natural.

  • @DPrincess28 Thank you!

  • i love ur hair in the vid. ur right. going natural is not that complicated. i've figured it out. u really inspired me. thank u for ur blog and videos. i wish u had more time to regularly update ur blog. i understand that you cant regularly update ur blog. i did my big chop on april 1st 2010. i'm getting use to it. i've found products that work. thank u so much. :-)
