@loljeck I'm not sure how successful the NGPC was in the US, but I do know that they were re-released bundled with 6 games a few years ago... so they must have sold enough (LOL). It's great that you still own a Neo Geo. I've always wanted one but never did thanks in part to the price of the system and the games for the time. If I could find one locally and for a good price, I'd get it.
@247xReviews Unfortunately, I don't have the game you mentioned (Shanghai Mini). It's good that you ordered it. I'll have to see if the local gaming stores in my area would carry Shanghai Mini, but I doubt it.
@Fragnid yeah if you ever find it i hope it cheap!! the game is not worth 30 bucks if you ask me but i really wanted it so i went ahead and got it. i like rare stuff
@247xReviews Understandable! For the right price, I wouldn't mind. Right now though, NGPC games are difficult to find locally these days so I very well may have to start ordering them. There aren't too many other titles that I'd like a physical copy of right now. Maybe 3 NGPC games, 4 GBA games, a Turbo Grafx-16 game, some Sega Genesis games and maybe an NES game or two.
@Fragnid Good deal. I'll be playing my NGP between other games on consoles, but I'll let you know how Dark Arms turns out. By the way... Play Stations next handheld is call the Next Generation Portable ... NGP ... HAHA notice the acronyms
@m15granger LOL! Yes, I too noticed this similarity when I first learned of the PSP 2. Ironic, eh? I've played Dark Arm soon after posting my previous response and I must say that it's MUCH better than I initially thought. It seems to have a day and night cycle with different zombies populating the area at each time-frame and an interesting weapon/power-up system. Definitely ahead of its time for the time. More on Dark Arms later.
@Fragnid Yeah I'm about half way through Dark Arms and I'm enjoying it. The cycling environment reminds me of Zelda A Link to the Past. It was way ahead of its time. The weapon system is good stuff. HINT: Different things happen to unlock tasks to advance in the game depending on whether it is night or day. If it is day & you talk to some who says to come back at night... leave the level and enter the master's house. Then leave the master's house, the day will change to night or vice versa :]
@m15granger That's great progress! I haven't had the chance to get into again since the last post unfortunately. Thanks for the information. Now I understand the day and night transition along with the triggered response to invoke such a change. Initially, I thought it was based on time measurement (LOL). I still find myself playing this and Metal Slug more than other NGPC games these days. As I discover more, this may change however.
@Fragnid Man I've gotten deep into it now LOL. I am at the last boss, but can't beat him so I'm having to go back and level up my weapons! Yeah, I love metal slug. I beat them both on the Wii Virtual Console.
@m15granger You're really making good progress (unlike myself, LOL)! Leveling up the weapons should help. I've never tried playing any Virtual Console games, though I've always wanted to try Super Star Wars, Super Empire Strikes Back & Super Return of the Jedi of SNES fame. Especially since I've retired my SNES and stored it away for safe keeping. For now, I'm testing out my 3DS. I hope to have a video of it up someday soon. By the way, Metal Slug is a tough series! Congrats on beating it.
@Fragnid I watched some footage of the intro to dive alert and it DOES look long LOL. Glad it adds to the story though. Thanks for the info on Azteca & the imports. I just got Dark Arms - Beast Buster 1999 in the mail today. Looking forward to playing that cool little RPG. Seems like zelda meets the world of zombies and monsters. Other than the 2 Metal Slugs is there any other shoot em up you know of for NGPC?
@m15granger That's great! Congratulations on acquiring those titles. I'm going to try out Dark Arms myself for the first time since I haven't played it along with many other NGPC games that I own (LOL). I can't think of any other shooters for this system, but I'm sure there are since NGPC has been a home to fighting games and shooters. I'll get back to you on this. Oh and yes, Dive Alert does have a good story. The gameplay is deeper than one would think in spite of the simplistic visuals.
@Fragnid I would appreciate that. What game is that @1:10? Azteca? I ordered Dark Arms and I'm excited to play through that one. I was curious about other RPGs. How is Dive Alert? I saw that in your collection. Videos I've watched make it seem like it might be a little boring.
@m15granger Azteca seems to be some degree of a gambling slot game where tiles have to be matched (rather, it has this format). It's an import in spite of being sold in the bundle that I got it in which featured every other game in English. So in each bundle, I got at least one import. The game under Samurai Showdown 2 is an RPG similar to Earthbound - NES (seemingly) and the game after Puzzle Link 2 is reminiscent of Super Robot Tensen - GBA.
@m15granger By the way, I just tried Dive Alert out for a bit and it has A LOT of text to read before getting to gameplay (which consists of the player being a submachine - AKA the center of a reticle in the form of a triangle firing at other shapes that add fuel and armor to the vessel). It seems rather basic but the story adds plenty to the game. It's just a shame that there's so much dialog and that it cannot be skipped from what I've seen so far. The game is actually deeper than it sounds.
@m15granger Thanks! I believe so because I don't ever remember any of the games I played being in any language other than English, but then again, it's been quite a while since I've tried out my NGPC. If I get the chance to un-retire it (LOL), I'll let you know for certain.
@m15granger Thanks! I wish this would be the case, but unfortunately, it does not. I've tried some of the import games that I own and they all remain in their native language, even upon setting the system to English.
@vulgarscreams Thanks! It's a good system, and the extras are fun too. Have you tried the horoscope? By the way, what color systems would you all have? I would have really liked to own a black system, but I'm not sure if it ever came in that color. I thought I saw one, but upon returning to the store, it was gone.
@Fragnid i mistakenly gave my gray one to my ex roommate and i have a blue one! i wanna get every color! haha. very awesome system! the horoscope was interesting
@Fragnid I own the black one, but it's not completely black if that makes any sense. It has a black/gray dot sorta look to it. I wish I could explain it any better!
..only kidding. But thanks for showing us your awesome collection! I only have one game for my Neo Geo Pocket Color as it was just given to me "as is" with some baseball game inside. I don't like sports games at all, but I really enjoy playing it just because I love the way the New Geo Pocket Color feels and plays. :)
That I know off the top of my head? No. Magician Lord is one game I really wanted, but it's more of an action/adventure. The only RPG's for this system I'm familiar with are imports like Bio Motor Yunitron and Dive Alert.
