  • @craismith1

Right on the money. This talentless geezer who rode the coat tails of a true artist (Garcia) is a waste of air space. Lady Gaga has more talent as well then this over playing insensitive so-called musician.

  • @sfrber2003 you're a fool

  • what is the tune called?

  • @ukulelekeithstephen - It sounds like a tune I remember from Tony Rice Unit's "Manzanita" album. I just don't remember which one.

  • @ukulelekeithstephen - My mistake, it wasn't off of "Manzanita," I think it sounds very similar to something off of Mar West, just don't know what.

  • @sfrber

    Those aren't 16th notes, they're 32nd notes.

  • "Lack of honest passion" - What are you listening to or watching? Maybe I can understand some quibbling with his technique or execution from an expert mandolin aficionado - I can't say I hear a problem myself - but to say there's not honest passion is crazy. That's his stock in trade and probably his top appeal. Point me to a single recording or video where that's lacking. If you don't hear and feel that, then I suppose i can understand why you don't like him.

  • Really though. Look. Lets get real. His lack of honest passion is only met with his bad timing. Just saying ....

  • @sfrber2003

I should have waited to reply until I read the rest of your comments. Now I only have this to say to you: Narcissistic Personality Disorder much? Do the others in your life a favor. Look it up.

  • DAVID GRISMAN is off on his 16th notes. Always has been a challenge for him. Don't understand why he is famous. Must be because he hung out with Garcia.

  • @sfrber2003 -

man, then maybe the rest of the world is off on its 16th notes, b/c grisman is right on - passion, improvisation, energy, joy - Dawg music and the quintet is a phenomenon beyond any 16th note. Looking to see him for first time in NYC in April.

  • @sfrber2003

I'm sure you've made a bigger contribution to the music world... You're pretty funny.

  • Moses with a Mandolin.

  • One of my all time favorites!

  • 5 stars. Bravo!

  • Why don't the CMA in Nashville recognize the real artists ?

  • @EMERALDEMMY They're incapable... and I actually like one of them CMA figures.

Don't get me wrong, I love this music.

  • I wish I could find 'Thailand' from this album...it don't get any better! lml@q.com

  • my favorite mandolin player..

  • Now that was incredible!

  • i did find it on ebay actually!

  • When I listen to this I am in heaven. Just pure harmony.....there are no words to describe what this does to you....

  • I love the twist of brazilian bossanova in this tune, absolutely brilliant!!!!

  • guitar is out of tune

  • not completely

  • I was there, at the Sunset Center in Carmel, September 2003. Fantastic concert. You should have seen the drum and mandolin duel/duet between Joe Craven and Grisman. Otherworldly. Grisman also came out after the show to sell CDs, and I got an autograph and took a photo of him and his son. Great evening.

  • David, Please come to S. Florida!!

    We love ya!!!!

  • Hey come check out our new grass vids!!!

    smokin hot ;)

  • Where?

  • Spectacular! When are you coming to Minny?

  • wonderful!, fantastic!

  • These guys are all sensational musicians

  • Grisman= all time best mando player! Even better seeing him live!

  • Dawg Music, YES!!!

  • David grisman was very close to jerry garcia and played with him on many occasions and i can't believe that grisman would not want people to tape his shows

  • That is a little simplistic. I know that I have attended Grisman shows at which taping was not allowed. I don't know what his policy is in general, but just because (a)Jerry allowed/encouraged taping and (b)Grisman played with him and (c)was friendly with him neither means that Grisman allows/encourages it nor that that is the "righteous" thing for a musician to do.

  • Some people are too cheap and selfish to go out and seek the live music for themselves.

  • This man is my favorite mandolin player!

  • I think this man is god's favorite mandolin player.

  • This is "Mugavero" by John Carlini. I agree that the artist should have approval prior to posting. I was taping a Dawg show in '81 and Craig, David's manager, politely took the crude tape machine and invited me to speak to Dawg after the show. The sound would have been awful but given todays tech, artists have a real concern. I do not know if this was shot or posted w/ permission. I enjoy seeing it and support Dawg and other musicians by seeing live shows and purchasing their media.

  • i love hearing stories that bring me closer than 6 degrees of separation (in an indirect sort of way)... Grateful Dawg is awesome and definitely under-appreciated... Thanx, austinpickers, for posting... I'm from TX also.

  • David Grisman is the most incredible dude ever to walk the plane...period!!!

  • they are playing in slc, utah next thurs for free.

  • My friend met Dave Grisman before, lucky ...

  • jsbrules wrote: >>Excellent music, only flaw is camera overly focused on Grisman<< I reply: Uh, maybe, that's because this is "The DAVID GRISMAN Quintet" ? :-) For us mandolin players, we're diggin' it! This is classic Grisman---thanks "austinpickers" for posting this!

  • because I can watch this blurry compressed video I'll never need to buy another ticket or CD of this guy Horrrrrayyy. Get with the times Dawg.

  • I believe the musician should be able to approve of his/her videos on YouTube. In this era of "all music should be free and bootlegs are just fine" I'm glad David is joining in this class action suit. This is not going to hurt YouTube...but it might give the musician a little more control. What's wrong with that?

  • What's wrong with exposure? It seems positive to me and is a reminder of the band, there is usually mention of new albums, tours etc. My hat's off to the people who develop the video and keep the music alive.

  • I repeat...what's wrong with the musician having control? My hat is also off to those who develop video technology...I have posted many of my videos on YouTube and Yahoo and I think it's great fun. But it was my decision, not the decision of someone who I don't know who didn't bother to get permission. Seems pretty simple to me. Anything else is just plain old bad manners at best.

  • Thanks Dawg

  • Awesome! This song is called "Quintet 80" he said. I couldn't find that song on.

  • no, he said its off the Quintet 80 record. Listen to what he said again.

  • Awesome...got any more of the Dawg austinpickers? Please post if so....and thanks for this one!!!

  • ^^ Well...he is the dawg

  • Excellent music, only flaw is camera overly focused on Grisman

  • so what, grisman looks just like god and plays even better!
