  • If the sky is not falling, why did I just read that guys are not happy about their pay.And that ROH is eliminating medical insurance for the wrestlers. And how is the HDNET deal going to help the product when nobody gets HDNET?ECW at least got a deal on TNN.The fact is that ROH will continue to be a niche product for a long time.

  • As long as the "new ROH" is actually trying to flesh out guys, and not just throw out 20 finishers spots in a 6 match show, it's a definite good step in the right direction.

And with the return of a "The AUSTIN STARR" esque character for the ring general, but bland, Austin Aires, it's even better.

I still can't believe it took this long for Aires to realize that maybe, just maybe, TNA had the right thing in mind when they were planning to rebuild the X-Division around THE AUSTIN STARR

  • nigel vs el generico has been announced

  • WWE DOES NOT have good storylines on a regular basis. It seems like everyone implies that they do. I swear they barely have ANY storylines compared to maybe 5 to ten years ago.

  • Exactly!!!!!!

  • maybe because then you were 5 to 10 years younger? :)

But RoH seems to be on a good level of consistancy with its product even when it changes a bit it stays consistant and thats important.

  • no, im pretty sure its just that wwe has grown stale.

  • Disagree somethings in ROH I do not like... a guy can kick out of 4-5 finishing moves or moves that SHOULD be finishing moves, the NEW ROH is a great step on the right path

  • Haven't followed ROH so I can't really say if the current direction is good or not.

However, I remember watching a show back in 2005 and feeling like the show just went on and on forever with every match trying to be a main event, and in the end I was just tired.

So if they've fixed that, then that's actually good thing.

  • ..There's a new ROH? Huh.

  • ROH is dead.

  • I also think ROH transitioning to a TV product this early hurts the overall value right now. It doesn't matter if the fans are right or wrong, but half the fans are leaving shows, without that thrill they should be. Its not fair to expect fans to pay 20$ for each dvd when ROH does not go all out. That's what got them where they are. It's too tough to follow now without buying every dvd. So i see the point of putting on a tv product on DVD. if they did more double feaures, i would understand.

  • I don't know if its fair to give Pearce credit for the remaining shows in 2008. Most of those final shows, Gabe spent all year building up. Even on his shoot interview, he had most of 2008 already planned out. To give Pearce credit for Bound for Hate, Rising Above, All star extravaganza, and Final Battle isn't fair. I would say start when Nigel drops the belt. That would be a fair starting point. I do agree about it being more of a TV product, however why transition now? Too early imo.

  • So, I am guessing there is no new video for today?

  • no youtube was doing updates last night so I didn't do a vid there wil be one some time tonight though

  • i was at the edinson show and the run ins in the main event werkkd great just hated the match endin cuz the time limit

  • I read a report yesterday on I believe PWInsider that ROH is looking at picking up some of the released WWE wrestlers.

  • Well people have been asking for that for a while. The Board has been wanting Burke since he was let go. Also I think the fans would like to see Val and a few other guys.

  • the new changes in roh have been good...we all know that ROH is now geared for a tv audience and people fail to realize that u are trying to attract new viewers or the casual fans...everyone forgets that ECW didn't change its product a bit and they failed on national tv.(just one of many reasons) ROH has to appeal to hundreds of thousands and millions not just the 20,000+ internet wrestling...its common business sense

  • The new shows are definitely much better IMO. I've been to a few lives shows and seen the rest on DVD. Final Battle was one of the best live shows ever.

  • what's so frustrating is that on the ring of honor is how unwelcoming they are of anything new or different,

not only that, but they are quite rude to each other and are very undiplomatic and spend time bashing each other and saying "X" was the worse show ever and never provide any constructive feedback on how the show could be better

to the najority of the roh forum posters, your not bookers, take your nonconstructive bitching and shove it

  • ROH is still very good I'm a little worried for this upcoming ppv tapping in Chicago nothing announced so far has me excited

  • ya man i agree... i hope that cage match delivers but idk.

and i don't really like that tyler black is gonna be in a tag match.. i wish he would challenge nigel but that's just me

  • It should be

    Cage Match

Aries vs. Nigel for the belt

    Jacobs vs. Black

  • It will probobly be

    Cage match

    Jacobs/Aries vs Black/Danelson

    Nigel vs Lynn

  • Yeah I see that must likely happening the only problem I have with that is Lynn hasn't done anything on ppv to get a title shot. I think that they can build him up more before he gets a world title shot on ppv. Tag match should be great and I can see them using that to build Black vs. Jacobs for the next ppv and you have former Team Work partners going at it and at RIE II it was Jacobs and Black vs. Danielson and Aries.

  • I'm worried about who is going to represent SNS Inc. You have so far Albright, Stevens, Strong, Jay Briscoe and ? vs. Sweeney, Richards, Edwards, ?,?. Hero is in Japan, the will most likely throw in Shiozake but who will be the 5th man its either going to be Dempsey, Del Rey, Hagadorn or possibly Pearce but the promblem with Pearce is that everybody knows that he books ROH. I hope that they can somehow bring in Morishima since he worked with Richards at the Toyko Summit show.

  • Lynn is already in a match tagging with Necro. Unless they have one of the undercard matches be for a title match later in the night it'd be a good bet to see Generico get another title shot.

  • Lynn is already in a tag match though

  • ya something like that would be better. i hope nigel faces someone good cause this card isn't looking extremely great so far

  • I'm shocked that there is no announced ROH World Title match so far and the ppv tappings take place next saturday. Lynn, Necro, Claudio, Steen alread have matches. It looks like Black, Aries, and Jacobs won't be involved in the title match and you have Albright, Stevens, Strong, Davey Richards confirmed for Steel Cage warfare. You need one to fill out steel cage warfare. I have no clue who Nigel is going to face and its concerning me and it looks like whoever challenges Nigel will lose.

  • ya i heard a rumor that alex payne might win his match against silas young and then challenge nigel.

i hope to god that doesn't happen. i have no idea who will face nigel. maybe someone will return like low ki??

  • great vid man, people need to give roh a chance like they first did before in 02

  • I hope they get a TV deal soon. I'm pretty bored with TNA these days and WWE has been boring forever.

  • Good review, but dude you really need to focus on what you say.... you're really redundant. But what you said is cool.

  • Thanks T Slay. I haven't been back to an ROH event in a few years, due to economy issues. But I've always wanted to head back to them no matter what. Moving on, your vids are always great because you show your opinion whilst being impartial. I'm glad you've addressed this issue with the ROH "faithful" as we've been called by some. It seems just like a good band before they get big, it's a huge secret to the mainstream. But when there's changes, out come the wolves. That said keep up the good job

  • The majority of the people bitching are the ROHBot loser message board contingent that often go to every show and yell stuff like HERO YOURE A FAG! or MORISHIMA YOU ARE FAT! They say anything post gabe sucks w/o seeing it.

GLF stating he walked out of a show like 10 times shows that.

The shows have been better, with Scrap Iron. Final Battle 2008 has become my favorite show in wrestling history. I believe that DVD will show how great the Pearce era can be.

Best TSlay vid ever. Pearce ftw

  • yeah well I don't usualy pay attention to the Edison folks anyways. They always seem to be just waiting to crap on something.

  • I see the clowns from the boards in NYC acting like they are wrestling gods, pissing on guys and trying to get themselves over. Thankfully the 2000 others drown them out. In Edison theres only like 400-600, so they def stand out there more.

  • good vid as ever!

  • but in saying that i dont believe roh is now a shit product, its just going through a change.

  • one bad thing about the shows is the delirious and jimmy jacobs tag team

they dont really flow as a tag team

  • No they don't unless they go the full gimp thing with Delirious but who knows. I think Adam is trying to find some way to make AOTF work where Gabe messed it up over and over.

  • i think that brodie lee is a good part to the fall but delirious (like u said) is kinda in between right now...it does look like the fall is going the end soon with tyler black being kicked out...i think it was a wrong decision by gabe to let necro leave the fall

i know he tried to take the aries and jacobs feud to another level but he was killing something that still had a lot to do

  • truthslayer, uve always said that roh is geared and makes its money from dvd sales? if they start doing shows that build towards the main event, and the under card is there just to build and make the main event mean more, then i think dvd sales will be in trouble. to me the main event would have to be SO good that it wouldnt matter what else is on the card. i wonder how many people will buy the dvds?

  • This is true but I think part of it is also that they are changing thier plan abit. I think they are making a trasistion from a company that relies on DVD sales to one that is going to relies more on live gates and TV exposure. We will not know for sure though for a while yet.

  • Could this possibly mean that ROH will cut down on the number of shows they run?

  • I think the reason why ROH is doing what their doing now, is so that they can get more fans..

  • oh yea, and aries looks like a fuckin pervert with that gay ass mustache.

  • there is a definite possibility that ROH is worse than TNA. i was at the Edison show this past weekend and it was fucking terrible. Had to be the worst ROH show I had ever seen in 3 years. Me and my friends started a "fire russo" chant it was so bad.

  • If you didnt enjoy that main event, Im sorry for you. If you enjoy TNA more than that show, Im REAALLLLYY sorry for you.

  • FTR, I was at the Nashville show and the Chicago show and I can tell you the Nashville can't whipe the Chicago shows ass. I had fun in Nashville (better than the USWO I usually watch down there,) but it was a VERY suppar show for RoH.

I do not feel the sky is falling though. I just feel that show fel short.

  • NO MORE ROH

  • I think it would take lots more to hurt ROH. They are too good at their core.

  • I like the fact that you bring up that every ROH match is booked like the main event. That is what almost killed ROH, it demeaned the actually main event. A lot of their wrestlers need to sit down and watch some UWF/Mid-South tapes instead of masturbating to japanese wrestling, because that style doesn't work in America.

  • Good point, watching huge, epic matches over and over again gets to be a little overkill. I wish ROH would get some kind of a TV deal ¬_¬

  • It's working very well actually. Compair RoH to the thousands of indies across the states. Which ones have you heard of? Ok then, it's working pretty good.

  • It has worked well but the problem is that there is just to much of it. By all acounts it seems that the BIG shows will stay the same for the most part it is just the B-shows that are going to change the most.

  • If th big shows can stay half as good as the PPV (which ever is the one on atm) then I'm all for it.

The smaller shows (such as the Nashville show) are still very good in comparison to the compititon (other indies.)

I think the major improvement is the flow of their shows. There's a progression threw out the entire card that builds toward the main event, which in turn makes the main event seem all the more special.

I think Roh is on the right track with their current method.

  • That is the way I see it too. At least you seem to be willing to give it a chance unlike some.

  • it works in Roh.

  • I give it a few more months before you see the product that they're aiming for with the new booking regime. I think a problem a lot of the nitpickers have is that they're going into shows or waiting on results of shows with the thoughts already in mind of what they are going to think, with a total opinion already formulated that the show isn't going to live up. And yeah, it's pushing them to not even buy the DVD's, and not even see that the shows aren't as bad as people are making them out to be

  • Hey, cool. My subscription to you defaults to the HQ videos now. Whoopass.

The Pay Per View was really good. I ordered it myself. I still have no interest in the new characters in ROH. It sounds like they messed up Aries, the students characters drive me up the wall, Sara Del Rey looks awful and they're spinning their wheels on the AOTF.

I'm taking a DVD break. I'll get the next pay per view, but if I don't see something I like I'm done for the foreseeable future.

  • ROH is changing? Cooooooool! It needs some new ideas and put in some young talent in there as well!

  • I went to both Final Battle and Edison NJ show on jan 17 and they were both good. Final Battle was awesome. 5 matches were kick ass. The edison show was just good. The Black vs Nigel Time Limit draw was phenomenal. But there was interference so about 40-50 people at the show flipped out. The INterference made sense. I dont understand why everyone is flipping out!

  • me either as alot of people have said the same thing you said. That the interference helped the match..then again they are also upset that it didn't actualy go 60min so

  • I think if the the messageboard diehards never knew it was pearce they wouldnt be as bad. I have never got the feeling Adam was liked before when just a talent.

  • In the shoot interview Gave actually said he would book 4 man matches or 6 man matches just to fit more wrestlers in one show.

  • Which cost Cary more money to book those extra guys all the time. Now we're seeing shows with a max of probably around 18-20 guys.

  • i only want roh videos...

  • LOL

  • For some one to post up a message on the board saying that ROH is worst than TNA needs to get their head examined for real.

  • From what I have heard, ROHbots have always been crazy, well before the switch of power (or whatever you want to call it).

  • I have seen 3 of the shows so far. I do like it and some of the things I critiqued were fixed, not everything though. I think this change could very well be for the better in the long term as the product since Pearce has started booking has become easier to follow and digest. One thing I have noticed on the F4W forums which has a lot of anti-ROH boarders is that even they are more accepting and enthused on the product, which is refreshing.

  • Agreed!

  • that's taking a comparison too far in my opinion. the first year of ROH was spotfest indie stuff that was decidedly bleh. the newest ROH is better than the oldest ROH, but the Pearce era really doesnt do it for me. I've just stopped watching the shows. i'd much, much rather watch stuff from a few Japanese promotions instead. wtf is 'wwe b movie' supposed to mean anyway? WWE itself comes off to me a B-grade acting to B-Grade scripts.

  • i enjoy your ROH vids tbh, not that your other vids arn't good, on a whole ROH is still getting better and is far betteer than TNA. i personally can't find much wrong with the way adam p is booking, Gabe wasn't bad by a long shot. Change is good when it's done right.
