Ok, Michael managed five great albums from 1981-2000, not four. If I count "Design of a Decade" for Janet, I have to count "HiStory" for Michael. Janet still has him beaten artistically because her material had better direction, and more breadth and depth. Michael's material became repetitive, whereas Janet explored new territory every time. For example, her transition from "Control" to "Janet" was very Marvin Gaye-esque, mimicking his transition from "What's Going On" to "Let's Get It On".

What escapes people is that even the best artists are lucky to have even two stellar albums. From 1981 to 2000 Janet had six (Control, RN, Janet, Design, Velvet Rope, & All 4U), which is unheard of for a solo artist. Michael only managed four during the same period, and Madonna and Prince (questionably) each had three. While Michael and Janet both released many radio-worthy songs, Janet's club action was superior. Michael sold more albums, but Janet's artistic quality was more consistent.

I love Beyonce' to death, but Beyonce' is not even close to Janet. Comparing Beyonce to Janet is like comparing Chris Brown to Michael. There just isn't any comparison. Janet is a female Michael, and absolutely no R & B/Pop performer, including Michael, has had the success overall Janet has. Janet has had a better recording career than Michael (if you leave out the J5). Given this fact, how can any female, compare to janet. Much of Madonna's commercial success came because she's white.

She is partly, like a lot of people that perform like she does (Madonna is included), uses a track, the chorus is a track but verses tend to be sung live. It'd be impossible to put on a show like they do and sing 100% live.
