Darn it. I should have listened to Cal Coast Bicycles when they told me to get a hope hub. Instead on the recommendation of a friend I bought a Fulcrum Red Metal Zero. Well, now it's broken Campagnalo advises me unless I bought it from a brick and mortar bicycle shop they will not honor the warranty even if I have a reciept!!!!
Hope just looks very reliable and accessible for service if needed! Looks like the have great service too.
Hi there, Im in trouble basically my pro-II rear hub is too wide for my cove stiffee's dropouts and Im not sure what to do. Even if the frame was stretched by hand it wouldnt be close to fitting so what should I do? I will need to convert the hub to QR soon anyway so will i need to get a shorter axle? Or will i need my frame professionally stretched? thanks
hi buddy. my inside axle just snapped on my pro 2 hub. is it the same procedure when doing the job just adding a new axle and is it worth replacing the bearings now instead of stripping again later. also the spacers on each end. will the still pull off in a vice even if they are 12mm maxle spacers not the qr ones cheers. also when it smashed i lost one of the pawls. will all 4 need replacing or can i do just one without any reaction or do they ware down quickly.
@ashman855 exactly the same idea, same with the end caps. Depending on age, might be worthwhile on the bearings, yes. Pawl springs are so cheap, I'd do all 4.
how about making a quiter rear hope hub similar to the pro 2. I have ridden with noisly hubs the pro 2 and quiter hubs like shimano and the quiter hubs just give a better feel and vibe for some reason. After a while that hope pro 2 clicky sounds just gets on you're nerves and is quite anoyying. I find i ride better with quiter hubs for some reason. the noise is a great shame as if this hub was quiet it would be ten times greater. i think hope will produce a quiet verion soon
Okay great vid. Looks easy enough. I'm sure someone has glued the drive side spacer on cos I can't get the thing off. If ever I do, I can't wait to find how easy it is to remove the freehub body. All before I even get to a bearing!
@Eggface79: Yes. The bulb has three ratchet pawels, and they aren't as well retained as in the Pro II though, so be careful when you pull it out or the pawels and springs will go everywhere.
My Bulb didn't last long. The teeth in the hub body broke. I wish I could put that Ti freehub body on my Pro II, but the pro II uses 4 pawels rather than 3.
i must say i was dissapointed with the hoep pro 2 rear hub 135mm 10mm qr rear hub. Mine arrived on my bike and had very noticable amounts of play in the rear wheel when moved by hand and im not sure if mine was faulty or the desing flaw or the hub. I compared it to a standard shimano deore hub and this was far more solid. I am going to try the 135mm 10mm thru axle conversion and see if this helps.
whats the procedure for the front hub? pretty much the same? i have this hub and i gotta admit im not a fan of the clicky noise. withou that sound it would be greater
driveside spacer is so stubborn!!! had it in the vice and the spacer fell apart before i could get it out, really cmon this is really frusterating!!!

Same for the bulb?

@LazyFreerider Same principle but there are differences with bearing sizes and how the pawls work

@eighteenbikes do i need to remove the barrel circlip to just remove the freehub? or do i only need to touch it if i want to get at the bearings?

is the "support" that he uses to rest the hub on at 1:21 the HTT167 Tool?

@Knightlore10 or you've left it too long to rebuild?! ;-)
Pop it in the vice, easy to pull of then.

I wish he showed how to replace the freehub bearings. There doesn't seem to be a way to get behind them, unless they all come out one side.
Mine are toast, while my main bearings are fine.

I've got a 2001 Bulb with play in the freehub - is the process essentially the same with the 'pull off' freehub?

Noted, although these are videos provided by Hope, who make cartridge hubs, so that's what they'll talk about!
