  • Her Ah vowels are the most beautiful ive heard at 1.45...SOOOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Another reminder of why Ms Horne was considered one of the greatest singers of all time.

  • Parfait.

  • to continue from the previous post,... Horne was the first choice for her role while the role of Pamira was first offered to Caballe, she declined, then to Scotto who accepted but had to bow out due to her falling pregnant and then it was offered to Sills. Mickelson had prepared cadenzas and other variations for each three sopranos according to their capabilities and what they considered showed their talents off best. The way it used to be done and fascinating too see.

  • The person that did the revision and nearly all of the cadenzas and embellishments was Randolph Mickelson who at that time had been working with Joan Sutherland and had shepherded Caballe's Rossini rarities album. The documentation that I have seen regarding L'Assedio di Corinto at La Scala is vast and too long to go into here.

  • One of the most beautiful, deep, and moving pieces of music I have ever heard.

  • Che musica sublime!

  • i'm in tears. thank you for sharing.

  • Where's this recording from? Did she ever sing the full role?

  • Yes. she did. At La Scala, with Beverly Sills, Justino Diaz and Thomas Schippers on the podium (April 1969).

  • Esecuzione perfetta. Si differenzia da tutte le altre e come al solito è la migliore. Voce stupenda.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I wish I had one of these early recordings of Marilyn Horne in my music library.

  • Quick correction- it was 1969, and Pamira!

  • I was lucky enough to be with Jackie at La Scala when this opera debuted Beverly Sills as Pamina. The score was put together with parts from several extant attempts. I don't recall the names of the guys who worked on it, but it was slanted toward Jackie rather than Beverly. I have a Pirate recording done at the 1968 performances, and I attended rehearsals, the premiere, and other performances.

  • Thanks! Absolutely magical, wow.

  • this is sooo beautiful - more than words can say. Thanks for posting this.

  • Incredible control here. Sounds as if it is earlier in her career...very beautifully sung.

  • Tambien es una de mis mezzo sopranos favoritas. He descubierto gracias a ti civileso este hermoso Giusto Ciel.Gracias.

  • Tienes razón Olga...la voz de Marilyn es mas que hermosa.

  • is there somebody who have the scores of this aria with the recitativo

  • Hmm.. After a long search, I could only find the score for the aria alone, not the recitative..

  • anyway thank you very much :(

  • Dear Civileso, I was searching for the score everywhere and could not find it in the internet. Where did you find it? It would be wonderful to have it it is one of my favorite songs!

    Thank you your help:)

  • She is something to be studied for centuries to come.. No other voice moves me as her voice does.. She is matchless regardless of fach..

  • What a voice! How well she sings! This is the kind of phenomenon that happens only once a century.
