Having Ta Moko done the traditional way like that is extremely painful, but he all he does is blink. With the rest of his designs, that doesn't surprise me.
Tattoos are for weaker men. Moko shows true strength.
hi there I wanting to design my own tattoo but I dont understand the meanings of the detailing of the tattoo i am thinking of a stingray as the tattoo with all appropriate detailing my email is manzonline@hotmail.com if you have any suggestions is there anywea i can go on the net that helps explain what the detailing means
@frontrowpig I have been told that we got our Moko from Whakairo , and Whakairo from the way iro eat the decompsoing shoulder, elbow, knee's, buttocks.
Another one is that we used to paint our moko on, but one man had a missus and he had done something to make her run away from him i can't remeber, but when he went to get her from the Underworld, the tribe there laughed at him because there moko was carved in the skin...
but this is just what i've been told, different iwi sometimes diff story
Maori were the only dark race never to be beaten by white settlers, they battled and battled but could not beat Maori so they signed a peace treaty. Maori had unbelievable talent for war tactics, in fact it is said that modern jungle warfare was based off Maori art of war, these guys had trenches, they would camouflage themselves, set up traps, and this was back in the days where people would just charge at each other with no plan
ive recently had a Maori face peice done, the design was taken from darwins drawings , and its been done in sections , it covers obove my top lip and whole beard area, inc my cheeks, im told by a certain few , i should have earnt it, to have had it done , but its already done , im happy with it, and it changes your whole life
@stavlaft i was told after i put pics of it on a facebook group called maori, some woman contacted me and asked me what gave me the rite to have this done, and im supposed to have worked for it ....
@stavlaft well i wont repeat what i said, and she didnt look MAORI to me but she seems to think she knows it all, but that could possibly be the fact that shes a woman lol, , i dont know, all i know is that i respect the Maori culture and race , and there tattoos are amazing ,
@stavlaft when i had the face peice done , i didnt want any tattooist doing his idea of a Maori face tattoo, i wanted an original design , thats why i used darwins drawings copied from a tribal chief , i think the fact that i have gone for the original is more respectful , and it remains true , rather than having some micky mouse shit on my face , ;-)
@ely4eva Nice idea.. but I thought copying someone elses tattoos was like stealing their identity to Maori.. and each tribe has different symbols.. I thought the same way you did until i researched it
@dronevalleyk hey mate, guess what? I'm not maori, I'm Australian, and i am currently in grade 12. if you're so superior then tell me, oh wise one, what is wrong with my spelling and grammar?
you need a new hobby. Maybe join a softball team, take up bowling, or biking.. any thing you join will serve the same purpose, but not leave you so scarred. It is not us against them, we all have the same situations and tribulations.
Wow George, thank you for keeping the traditions alive, I love tattoos, but I believe Ta Moko should only be done one way, and that is the way you are showing us here. Nice bro, very nice.
Oi ReubenMaori, I have the ta moko done with the uhi and am one of those europeans that you talk about. In fact the girl helping in this video helped on mine also. So may I suggest you shut up as this is the greatest honour of my life!!!!!!
in a way i think its pretty cool that other people not just maori take an interest in it ,it like reprezents us and shows the world how beautiful our culture is.
Much respect to you jamieloyd for your interest of ta moko and your respect. Its awesome, but unfortunately bro the tatoo that you got is called kirituhi as it has no tribal affiliations or traditional forms. But still represents Aotearoa - maybe we can change that and say that it represents Ngati Pakeha - MAURI ORA!
Oi, RuebenMaori, I seriously suggest you shut up, I have the ta moko done with the uhi, and am one of those europeans you talk about.........I know exactly what it means and am honoured to wear it!!!!!
It's not to be "cool" and it's not a tatt! It's a ritual that is to be respected like you repect your grandma! this sacred ritual is termed Ta Moko. It is for the Maori people and not stuck up Euros or arrogant Americans and yes I live in the U.S.
That mans scars are gorgeous!
