  • That mans scars are gorgeous!

Having Ta Moko done the traditional way like that is extremely painful, but he all he does is blink. With the rest of his designs, that doesn't surprise me.

Tattoos are for weaker men. Moko shows true strength.

  • shit that looks sore.. hha

  • maori way more ruthless than the islands bro wat sole do you see with full face urus up

  • A proper traditional Ta Moko on the face will hurt but you have to earn it. This guy has Mana...

  • ta moko - ta more core

  • beautiful moko

  • I was told by a Samoan it was the Fijians who introduced tattooing to the Pacific Islands...Is this true?

  • @frontrowpig thats from a samoan.. for maori, there are many stories on how we got moko

  • @DevilKeyz Tell me them

  • @frontrowpig I have been told that we got our Moko from Whakairo , and Whakairo from the way iro eat the decompsoing shoulder, elbow, knee's, buttocks.

Another one is that we used to paint our moko on, but one man had a missus and he had done something to make her run away from him i can't remeber, but when he went to get her from the Underworld, the tribe there laughed at him because there moko was carved in the skin...

but this is just what i've been told, different iwi sometimes diff story

  • hardcore!!!!!

  • maoris do a realy good job of holding onto their culture and identity

  • sheeeit that bit on the eyelids wouldve felt mad pain

  • oh man! that looks very painful....Way to keep up with your traditions! two thumbs up!!

  • This looks painful as hell, respect. Dumb question, where does the actual ink come from? I don't see him dip it in anything......

  • ive recently had a Maori face peice done, the design was taken from darwins drawings , and its been done in sections , it covers obove my top lip and whole beard area, inc my cheeks, im told by a certain few , i should have earnt it, to have had it done , but its already done , im happy with it, and it changes your whole life

  • earn it how?

  • @stavlaft i was told after i put pics of it on a facebook group called maori, some woman contacted me and asked me what gave me the rite to have this done, and im supposed to have worked for it ....

  • @ely4eva she sounds like a bitch to me ;-) what did you answer her?? did she say anything more specific??

  • @stavlaft well i wont repeat what i said, and she didnt look MAORI to me but she seems to think she knows it all, but that could possibly be the fact that shes a woman lol, , i dont know, all i know is that i respect the Maori culture and race , and there tattoos are amazing ,

  • @stavlaft when i had the face peice done , i didnt want any tattooist doing his idea of a Maori face tattoo, i wanted an original design , thats why i used darwins drawings copied from a tribal chief , i think the fact that i have gone for the original is more respectful , and it remains true , rather than having some micky mouse shit on my face , ;-)

  • @ely4eva Nice idea.. but I thought copying someone elses tattoos was like stealing their identity to Maori.. and each tribe has different symbols.. I thought the same way you did until i researched it

  • @dronevalleyk real mature

  • @dronevalleyk hey mate, guess what? I'm not maori, I'm Australian, and i am currently in grade 12. if you're so superior then tell me, oh wise one, what is wrong with my spelling and grammar?

  • beautiful.

    much respect

  • you need a new hobby. Maybe join a softball team, take up bowling, or biking.. any thing you join will serve the same purpose, but not leave you so scarred. It is not us against them, we all have the same situations and tribulations.

  • my respects 4 you bro i be it hurt like shit!

  • Once the skin is pierced, how do they apply the ink? Do they just tip it in, or is there a special instrument?

  • its already on the "piercer"

  • Wow George, thank you for keeping the traditions alive, I love tattoos, but I believe Ta Moko should only be done one way, and that is the way you are showing us here. Nice bro, very nice.

  • YAAY :D

    Traditional Way!!

I See It As Going To A Tattoo Shop For It Almost Cheating :/

    x <3

  • Too much george.

Nanny woulda had us lighting her fire out the back and she woulda cooked us the big feed aye after watching you go through all that.

  • you are an artist!!! i love those tatts

  • Oi ReubenMaori, I have the ta moko done with the uhi and am one of those europeans that you talk about. In fact the girl helping in this video helped on mine also. So may I suggest you shut up as this is the greatest honour of my life!!!!!!

  • much respect to you .........

in a way i think its pretty cool that other people not just maori take an interest in it ,it like reprezents us and shows the world how beautiful our culture is.

    mean maori mean

  • Much respect to you jamieloyd for your interest of ta moko and your respect. Its awesome, but unfortunately bro the tatoo that you got is called kirituhi as it has no tribal affiliations or traditional forms. But still represents Aotearoa - maybe we can change that and say that it represents Ngati Pakeha - MAURI ORA!

  • Oi, RuebenMaori, I seriously suggest you shut up, I have the ta moko done with the uhi, and am one of those europeans you talk about.........I know exactly what it means and am honoured to wear it!!!!!

  • respect its the real way and hurts like hell

  • Kia kaha,e matua

    ka pai te ta moko

    kia mau te wehi,,,,

now thats one mean ta moko(Tatt)!!!!!

  • Respect!

It is so good to see the old traditions come back to life.

  • Respect right there bra.

You'd bleed for your country, for your heritage and culture. Thats tight.

I may b palangi, but i no respect.

    Propz.

  • It's not to be "cool" and it's not a tatt! It's a ritual that is to be respected like you repect your grandma! this sacred ritual is termed Ta Moko. It is for the Maori people and not stuck up Euros or arrogant Americans and yes I live in the U.S.

  • oh my gosh,

    doesn't that hurt ?

  • That's tight... I wanna get tatted like that

  • Te ataahua hoki o te mahi nei, te tututanga o te puehu!

  • hey its da cuzz... churr

f.y.i. people that see this, thats not a comb of sharp teeth cutting the skin but a chisel.

  • dang brah, your a tough dude.

    keep your culture alive bruddah.

    peace

  • good old traditonal way.

Back in the islands I remember mum tattooing her mums back using sticks and thorns from the bush lemon tree.

That tapping of stick sounds familiar.

  • Thank you for your comment, yes this is a very traditional way of moko, if you would like to see more please visit Front of the Box website.
