The Tuareg people are Berber-speakers who trace their ancestry to the indigenous peoples of North Africa in ancient times. Tuareg are not "Arab Americans." They are probably related to the Berbers. Secondly, the (tragic) situation is quite complicated by the Libyan and Algerian borders and has been for some time (as in, the Libyans have been exterminating Touareg for years, partly under pretext that they "illegally cross borders." The Touareg are nomadic (this explains the origins of the mystery of Timbuktu—another story). A lot of the issue can be tied back to post-colonial structuring of tribal culture.
