I work at my School Board as a videographer, and we currently use one of these cameras; its awesome. We just got our second one yesterday and I got to unbox it. All the packages come with Sony Vegas Pro Creative Suite 10, although we use Adobe Premiere Master Collection haha.

do you think the external microphone of the NX5 is good to record the audio of a live theatrical inside or outside event?

This was before I was experience with video editing I had some help with it. @mootooman It has been working great. Took it on a few trips. Just have to keep it away from the beach unless I bring a plastic bag for it. Very sensitive to moisture. Might look into getting the weather resistant model soon.

@superpancakequeen I just like the way the profesional cameras work compared to the regular consumer grade cameras. I like recording while visiting many different parts of the world. Lots of beautiful things to catch on video camera. What really persuaded me to buy this camera was the narrow depth of field and 24p capabilities so my shots look like the ones you see in the movies.

in the beginning of the video - nice equipment you got there. love the set up you got going on there. geez for a filmmaker like myself, i wish i could afford half that stuff. and cool video camera, those are like the ones we use in school, HD and everything. except we have canons. not sure which is superior but as long as it does what i need it to, thats all that matters

Is the EX1 better than this?

@GanEdenAustralia The EX1 is an older modle, it has its good and it's bads. Not as many new feature as the NX5U has in comparison. For my purpose I preferred the specific features offered int eh NX5U. Just wish it was rain and dust resistant.

@kd4sai I use an FX1 and a JVC HD200UB which has both PAL/NTSC/25p/24p, yet 720p to tape or 1080 stream. I am thinking of upgrading one day to a cam that is PAL/NTSC switachable. Know the EX1 can do this and heard the Z7 can as well.

@GanEdenAustralia I am thinking about adding the Canon XF300 to the collection. I have always liked Canon as well as Sony. Just wish some of the features can be combined between the two models.

@GanEdenAustralia Yes the US is in pretty bad shape. Many people I know are working part time jobs or recently unemployed within the last 3 years. My wife was one of them to become unemployed last year as well. I work for Google and do some photography and videography. Seems there is much need for work in this field even with such poor economy.
