You think people in China don't know that tragedy at all? You think that government try to hide this accident? How naive. After 08, almost everyone in China know this brave and talent girl. If you can understand Chinese, go to find 鲁豫有约,it will show you how Yan's new life now. Without the government's and Chinese people's support, she's situation would be much worse.
Probably the saddest story to come out of the Beijing Olympics...but miracles do happen to those who believe.
As far as the suppression of this from the Chinese government, I don't think it was intentional, just poor judgement, again...the Chinese have become extremely sensitive to how they are viewed by the outside world, especially westerners...so something that could have cast a cloud on the festivities, was not allowed to surface...
is that so? she's been on several shows to talk about her life after the accident. and she received a large amount of compensation. although chinese gov sucks, but is not as evil as u think.

um, yeah, they are more evil than I can imagine. And yes, they suppressed news about her accident to -how they say? SAVE FACE??? It was only AFTER the story leaked that they figured out their PR strategy. Haven't you ever seen "White Knights?" ...lol
I just doubted your first judgement, and was never meant to argue with you. u r assuming too many out of my words and always reply in a patronizing way. I dont like your tones at all. (btw, I've been living in the states for 7 years, and I'm a Phd candidate myself, and i will never email you again for sure)

wow! you are a piece of work!
You email me to say you will never again email me and to tell me about your immigration status and educational pursuits. When a stranger sticks their face in your inbox to contradict something you know, you can expect a disagreeable tone. I've met more than 1 doctoral candidate with no common sense and too much time on their hands. Goodbye Dr. "U R" 7 years.
I am absolutely blown away by this. Watching her, I suddenly realized that we have to redefine the word "supple". Her movements, some of which would seem to be impossible, are so fluid and so seemingly effortless, it just takes my breath away. I am awed.
Yes, thanks to the NY Times we know of her shocking accident...and her fierce spirit. We may pray for a miracle. Good things these videos are here to inspire and showcase her phenomenal dancing . She is stunningly impressive.
i got the impression of a young bird/girl maturing into an adult/lady (learning to fly and finally controlling how she carries herself)? her dances are sorta abstract though...
oh the story behind this is something like how a woman is unable to bear any children, and her husband abandons her, but she adopts a girl to bear children for him, but the girl she adopts either dies in childbirth or cant have children[ i dont remember :P] and so abandoned, she stays in the orange trees.
or something like that. :p
this dance is so amazing... the movements are out of this world... so sad about the news...
This is one of the most beautiful dances I've ever seen and my heart breaks for her and her family.I agree with damico6. I will pray for a miraculous recovery.
I find it disgusting that the Chinese government has seen it as "in the national interest" to suppress all news about this national tragedy. Yan gave her all for the glory of China and this is how she is to be repaid, with indifference and silence? What she needs now more than ever is the support of the Chinese people in this her darkest moment. That support cannot come if the government tries to act as if it didn't happen. It's reprehensible.

Gosh, we do got our problems. But It wouldn't do to just make up problems.
I was really surprised that many people gave thumb up too. I remember I read the news quite a few times on Chinese media. I seriously think many did so without bothering to find out if it was true accusation. It's easy to blame, especially the unpopular ones, isn't it.

@damico6 What do you mean by "suppress all news"? The news of her getting hurt is on Sina , QQ and all other major news sites and she was still awarded for her artistic achievement after the injury.
Budda bless you by all means!!!

a tragedy that someone with such talent, grace, beauty and amazing control of her body is now paralyzed.
Maybe a breakthrough in stem-cell research will help in time and she'll be able to at least walk.

She is frighteningly thin and it distracts from appreciating the choreography. It's like watching a skeleton move.
