  • Was this originally a Mega Drive title? The music at the beginning sounds so Mega Drive! :D Or course, the awesome metal and orchestral soundtrack can only be Saturn. :3

  • we need thunder force games for VC

    thumbs up if you agree

  • yeah... there is something about thunderforce that makes it stands out compare to other shooters..... i too am entirely not sure what it is. probably the music. the game play, the weapons... or maybe its the pacing of the game. when you play the game you can feel youre playing something cool.

  • Nothing beats the music in TF3! I still whip it out and play it on Genesis every now and then!

  • REVIEW GRADIUS 5...PLLLLLZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!

  • Skip to 1:20 for a fucking orgasm

  • I give up, I just can't play Thunder Force.

    The headbanging makes it impossible!

  • thunderforce air conditioning! yeah!

  • Isn't Lifeforce the US version of Salamander?

  • if you like space shooters you must like starfox

  • @Godlike0503 kool. I have a DSi and Im having fun with it. It is nice for once not to have an argument over the internet for no reason.

  • somebody donate mark magical pony adventure in spaceship with happy lasers for the vectrex

  • The music is awesome!

  • i wonder how many ppl notice that if u play Einhander, when u fight the salamander boss it plays a remix of the first boss 2nd underwater form u fight in TF V.

  • Danny Choo send me here :D! dannychoo(dot)com/post/en/1703/A+Day+in+Tokyo+5.html

I saw that it was a video from you, so I had to clikc on it! :)

  • yeah this is the exact game of Thunder Spirit on SNES

  • Mark, you need to review Thunder Spirits!

  • use to own this for my saturn. awesome game.

  • Guys, this is a port of Thunderforce III for the Genesis. Other than the cool 3D intro, and maybe some new colors, it is a 16-bit game.

  • I have the SNES version of this game, Thunder Spirits, and it's one of my favorite games.

  • 1990-1995 games were the most amazing games...

  • The music is pure bad assery.

  • @matacksthedude Dosent it have something to do with that the third party cartirgdes has a bigger connector or something? I don't know just heard it somewhere

  • any one know where i can get this game email me (john202030@yahoo.com)

also gradius 1-5 and thunder ligthning

  • The treble.. lol

  • please release this for ps3!!

  • genesis was fantastic!!!!!

  • @tonimuscella and still is, i just played Sonic 2 yesterday on Genesis Emu

  • If you think this is a challenging spaceshooter then you havent Played a touhou game yet.

  • The sega saturn is my favorite game consle back then

  • i remember hooking up my boom box to my Genesis console and recording a lot of game music to tape. I was always listening to TF music!

  • Awesome, I still reckon Thundeforce IV had better music

  • music reminds me of star fox

  • pew pew pew

  • What l love most about Thunderforce is...THE IN YOUR FACE BAD ASS OPENING!!!!

  • Mark is my imaginary friend who shows me cool games all the time lol

  • @MrROTD I WANT TO SUCK YOU DRY! :D

  • Lightening force was so good, I thnk the music had a lot to do with it, but so too did the creativity, imaginative levels, awesome bosses, level design... it was really good.

  • AWESOME, got to find this game

  • A lot of people say that the PSX/Saturn era was the last of the classic ages. I thought it ended after Super Nintendo/Mega Drive.

  • @n00berania I agree. To me the "new generation" began with the PSX/N64. I miss the 16 bit days of Turbografx, Genesis, SNES. :)

  • @n00berania Yeah, that's true. I guess, mainly, when most games went 3D. But to me, It seems like, I think, the 32-bit era, including Saturn, PSX, etc. was kind of a place of it's own. I really like PSX with games like Tomba!, Rayman, and other 2D games.

  • It looks like a ship you could find in the R-Type series

  • never played this game but GODAMMIT THIS MUSIC IS AWESOME

  • I remember when I played this on MAME I always thought something was wring with the graphics, but I see the first level is meant to be all cracked.

  • maybe your connection sucks, loads fine for me

  • @chemiecharmeur Maybe if your connection didn't suck so much you would be able to watch. Nobody likes bitching and complaining.

  • Yeah wiseguy that may be the reason EVERY other vid is loading properly...just due to my connection I guess. It just does not like Classic game room

  • @chemiecharmeur Classic Game Room is HD. That means the video quality is dubbed down to be watched in 480p. Even though its dubbed down that doesn't mean you won't experience loading problems.

  • how come the enemy's never have a ship as badass as yours. just imagine if the final boss was an exact replica of urs. bullets that cover the whole screen :o

  • luckly you could try to shoot first and it would die in one hit with your pea shooter ;)

  • Since you like shmups you should try the castle shikigami series ;)

  • This game has some kickass music...I wish video game OST were more popular back in the day.

  • Is the port of ThunderForce 4 the same as the genesis version? Or is it an arcade version as well?

An arcade verison of Thnder Force 4 would kick some serious ass.

  • Thunder Force is my favorite shooter series!

  • this reminds me of Denaris

  • how many times does the game shove the words "TECHNO SOFT" in it?

  • Mark u got to get hold of pradoius games on your saturn, its an awsome and funny as hell.

  • What are they called?

  • What is that stage that starts at 6:00? that was definitely not on the Genesis version of TF3.

  • TF3AC version of Haides, unique to this game only (he even says it around 7:00)

  • there are some extra levels in the arcade one.tf4 had the music of those stages, altought i don't hear the diffrence in music when comparing this to the genesis one,i loved it them on genesis.

  • It is omake # 2 if you finish TF4 as well. In the option menu you can find once you finished the 4th opus.

  • Laser beam + spaceship = ur my friend.

  • Remember Gradius? Neither do I. This rocks.

  • Why do so many shmups have rockin' soundtracks? Can't we get that nowadays?

  • Would anyone out there agree that this game is SO SIMILAR to Sol Feace (Sega CD) or Sol Deace (Genesis) ?

  • lol the ingame ship firing its default weapon kinda reminds me of the vipers from battlestar galactica

  • before= golden era of gaming

  • I think since 3D gaming took-over circa 1995, gaming just hasn't been the same. That's not to say that there's no games for the PS1/N64 and other 3D consoles, but back when games were 2D there was more freedom for the programmers.

Les realism meant more imagination by the programmers, and therefore always a new style of game being invented.

  • More techinicly ages of gaming are

    6-bit/Atari Age 1972-1983

    crash 1983-84

    Nintendo revival 1985-1989

    Bit wars 1989-1995

    Semi Modern age 1995-2001

    Modern age 2001-

  • So the Dreamcast you could say was the last of its kind?

  • I paersonaly think that the snes is the last "classic" gaming console, but I am more of a modern handheld and PC guy. Who knows, maybee 20 years from now people will be going "oh, Xbox 360, those were the days and I grew up on Halo." anouther guy says "Oh I grew up on the PS3, I was the only one who had one. " Someone else will be saying "No, windows XP was the shit." You get the point. Not to far in the future modern consoles will be classic.

  • Gaming is a completely different prospect now. Classic gaming is fun for being a challenge but never taking itself too seriously like space invaders and ofcourse thunder force. Modern day gaming is fun and engaging because you feel like you're in a real situation and have the freedom to make your own style of playing like Crysis and Killzone. Put simply it hasn't been the same because it just ISN'T the same.

  • @crumcon It's why the hardcore retro gamers exist..there's nothing like a nice game from the 90's.

  • @crumcon

Amen, Todays soundtracks don't have that awesome sound with catchy tunes that fit the game's personality. I miss the gameplay style too of them days. 16 bit was truly epic.

  • @crumcon The Sega Saturn is 32bits, Silly crumcon!

  • @pspbook13 just because Saturn is 32bit system, it doesnt mean it wont have the mean it doesnt have great music from the 16bit era.

  • @crumcon lololo this is 32 bit dude

  • @crumcon sega saturn wasnt 16 bit loser it was cd audio -__-

  • @TinyTitian It still uses 16-bit samples. It uses a 32-bit processor, but that doesn't change the fact that it's 16. Quit acting like a pretentious douche.

  • @PrimalLight2323 did u even read the comment it uses cd audio 16bit and 32 bit have to do with the amount of data received learn more about computers before u comment dipshit

  • @TinyTitian That's exactly what I said in my comment, douche. It doesn't change the fact that the soundfonts used were of a 16-bit caliber.

You know fuckin' nothing about processing so shut the hell up, kid.

  • @PrimalLight2323

Doesn't the YM2612 use an 8-bit register? Nonetheless, you're more correct than those other poltroons.

  • @RedlineAngel I think you might be right. I'm not too familiar with Sega hardware, but that sounds right.

  • @crumcon I dissagree, up untill the ps2 generation was the golden age. 8bit-32 bit.

  • @crumcon You clearly are playing the wrong games then (for music anyway).

  • I mean frames

  • whats the difference between the gold packs 1 and 2?

  • Gold Pack 1 is TF2 and 3, Gold Pack 2 is AC and 4.

  • thanks for the info

  • Good Review, My Favorite Thunder Force Game is TFIV, Which this Saturn Game has! I'm going to have to play this(And Gold Pack 1) some day, For The Extras and stuff.

Speaking of Extras, Even though this is a Review for TFAC, I'm surprised you didn't talk about The TFIII Ship(The FireLeo-003 Styx if you want to get technical) Being unlockable in TFIV in this game. I want to see how well The Styx stacks up to The Renyx! XD

Either way good job as always CGR HD!

  • Lol, I have to get this game.

Alone the intro is so jaw-dropping and awesome...and wow! Amazing what they did there!

  • Gameplay yes, Music HELL NO!

  • Make sure you check out the Nanostray games on DS.

  • the snes version is the same thing but it have a better ceberus stage with awesome music!

  • No! not its ARCADE version.

  • The first level's music is classic =)

  • i suck at this game...also check out the strikers 1945 games for the saturn, ya just gotta

  • In Vietnam this game is called Tinlupu Finlaopau

  • What the hell man?

  • warning crashing ship into space rock cost's a life + the space rock hate's you

  • Epic win, one of the best shmups ever ;)

  • play mushihimesama and thats the true imposible

  • The music sounds great in this version!

    Gotta love the Technosoft grooves.

  • So is this a port of the Megadrive Game or are they both ports of an Arcaid game?

I think my favorite side scrolling shooter is Ariel Assault on the Master System.

  • The MD/Genesis version came first, then the arcade, then the SNES. To me, the original is still the best, YMMV. I would like to see CGR HD take a crack at the SNES version just for completeness's sake.

  • pretty amazing (genesis before arcade)... and the snes without autofire was ridiculously hard!

  • There's is an SNES version of Thunderforce AC called Thunder Spirits.

  • This is clearly the best review ever made.

  • That was a cool intro. Great music throughout the whole game.

  • You kick ass at video games!

  • Epic music!

  • If I buy a side scrolling shooter, where should I start? Preferably an Xbox live arcade title.

  • aegis wing is free and GREAT

  • Just make sure to play it with friends. It's essentially a multiplayer game only, because, compared as a single player game, it's worse than a lot of other free shmups out there.

  • Ikaruga

    Aegis Wing

    1942

  • there aren't many (or any, I dont know for sure) side scrolling shooters. A good vertical one is 1942: Joint Strike. Thats a good one.

  • ya, i downloaded 1942 from xbox live, and the new version kicks ass

  • The thing that killed it for me is that fucking annoying menu transition. Seriously...wtf.

  • It's a bit pricey, but you could get R-Type Dimensions ;)

  • And GC.

    And Wii.

  • that intro is just flippin sweet! if only that was the gameplay that would be sweet! lol

  • This reminds me of Thunder Spirits for the Super Nintendo as well.

  • That's because Thunder Spirits was a port of Thunder Force AC.

  • Played this game a lot, best thunderforce is number 4 or IV on the Genesis.

Great vid man, looks like you are working hard... keep em comming

  • cool game

  • You mean reviewing the SAME shit everyone else reviews? I think everyone else has that covered lol.

  • Are you stupid ? He has a lot of reviews, just look at his vids, he also does atari games, and a lot of other old games.

  • if no one cares about it why do thousands keep coming back for more?

  • Little request, Ikaruga.

  • He already did a review of Ikaruga.

  • Looks like a great game but I sure wish they had've brought it out on a different console so I could give it a go!

  • I love the soundtrack to this game. It sounds so much better than the genesis version. Interesting new stage.

  • The background at 4:00 makes me feel alittle sick! >_>

    Great review as always, Mark.

  • could you review okami on the wii or the ps2?

  • classic sega room lol

  • mark you sure do love thunder force XD

  • I love this game! Such a fun space shooter...

BTW - I suggest you look into Saints Row 2, and maybe make a review of it. If you liked GTA - SA, then you will LOVE it.

  • great review, still trying to get a saturn
