AHH!! I still have this game I never really got the hang of it so I gave it to my son, but it's still a cool shooter to me it's just that damn time limit shit.
@NYtassu yea i had the same problem, i tried combining 3 cross missles and launching it at the thing when it was stunned, the robot reactivates and kicks my butt again, lol.
I just bought this today without knowing shit about it. Best 5$ i ever spent. its a great relief to see a game with originality and with more colors than gray and brown. also Copain's plane reminds me of spikes spaceship from cowboy bebop and the airships of megaman legends combined with Last Exile for some reason.
the ps2 generation was a good time, lots of different games that were excellent in different ways. I had final fantasy X, socom 2, this game, metal gear solid 2, a couple others. the games I just listed are night-and-day perfection
Capcom,Atlus,Konami,Square Enix,Rockstar....my favorite game company's. besides rockstar japan basically owns when it comes to video games, we english speakin folk need to step our game up. the north american game company's seem to make games that they think will sell instead of original works or art.
It will always be a tragedy to me that this game never got the sequel it deserved. Especially since Rival's story leaves some threads hanging, and I imagine that slowdown would be non-existant on today's gaming hardware.
wishful thinking if they could make a sequel for this game, the old days when games as creative as this were the best of times heck back then i hung out with a group friends back then and it was fun we all had fun. I really miss those times......now everybody is just.....gone. even good games like this gone......
I got the Japanese version, which made it impossible for me to beat one of the later bosses (the robot that auto repairs every time you shoot it down) >.>
dude, I love this game. the artwork was beautiful, or should I say, cute, and cool at the same time. japanese are really good at making things like that, cute and cool. the gameplay was really fun, unique, and has replayability value so u won't get bored. the music was decent too.
@killbunny90210 So do I! It was the mag before PTOM. And I remember from that point on trying to track down an actual copy of the game. Only in 2007 did actually stumble upon one. Good times. :_)
Ha this game was for PC before the PS2 version. It was one of the best games i've downloaded from that website.. it was a japanese website of free games
@teh2Dgamer haha no, sorry buddy, but i'm right. I played this game in.. like 2008 or 2007, it had another name, but it was the same game. The graphics were sightly different, but i'm totally sure it was not the rom. It was like a beta. I even remember going to the developer's website and reading "wow we are so happy, the game is going to have it's ps2 version blablabal" i'll search links and i'll come back with them
@teh2Dgamer yes, totally sure. The airplanes, the characters, everything is the same. I played it a few years ago as i told you. So i remember. I think i have the game here on a cd or something. I'll come back with links or something when i found them
@teh2Dgamer maybe, i'm not quite sure if it was in japanese. But the website where i downloaded it from was full of obscure japanese free games for pc. Now it's a forum, so i dunno. I'll search my back ups and upload the game if i find it
Why don't they make unique games like this anymore? it's like there is no imagination anymore this generation. Too much focus on graphics and cookie-cutter game mechanics to rake in sales. Whatever happened to making games unique and just because you want to?
Probably because it's too expensive these days to be very adventurous without worrying about recouping your losses as a developer. I miss the old days... sadly :(
You should try out indie games more often. If you're into PC games, or check out PSN/XBLA games, there's a few cheap and daring games still out there.
@TheReapersSon Apparently gloomy, overly real, grainy grey games with inreadable text are in. Seriously ET got redable text down and that was on the 2600, why couldnt the much more pricier and technologicly advanced Forza 3 have readable menus?
@TheReapersSon well I havent played this game but from the video it really just looks like your typical sky plane shooter, but if theres something unique about it that you need to play it in order to find out, please enlighten me. If not I think youre just jumping on the old is better bandwagon. There still are original games. (Ex: Portal)
Actually, I normally don't think about the "older is better" mantra, as I try to give most concepts the benefit of the doubt first and foremost. But, I do know that this generation has been sullied by more than one trite convention. After all, do you think that Dead Space 2 would have multiplayer if it wasn't for the XBOX Live / console multiplayer obsession? It's the Call of Duty effect.
@TheReapersSon true just like Bioshock 2, multiplayer to me is just a feature like difficulty levels, the main slice of a game to me is still the singleplayer. I would pick this up however Im really not a flight fighter guy, I tried on a few games and I still am not into it so I doubt Ill pick it up. But yeah the call of duty effect is really pissing me off especially when a game with a great singleplayer campaign gets butt fucked by a shitty multiplayer mode. (ex: The Darkness)
Besides, I haven't seen one of these games that has this type of art direction and character focus before. I recommend picking this game up cheap online and playing it for yourself!
yup they were better.developers were actually creative. :( they are now too but back in these days seemed developers had more love for the games and the art of gaming.todays society just wants to make a quick buck, the passion is lost...
It wasnt exactly like that, I should have worded it different. I really didn't press the issue because he liked the game. Damn, I have the Japanese version.
It's very good, but at one point I had no idea how to beat one of the later bosses.
It's that golden robot with a lance looking weapon that walks around onboard the zeppelin.
I tried to kill it, but it just gets deactivated and then reactivated and walked again.
I did notice the blue haired dude tried to stun it with some kinda box from time to time though. No idea what that's for...
