@thinkyourright thousands of views and hundreds of comments on these videos, you're the first to whinge about 'no sound'...problem's on your end mate :-)
rest in peace george harrison !! and thank you for your music !! with and without the beatles you were a great songwriter and your music will live forever !!! the quiet beatle no you were the heart of the beatles !!! enjoy heaven
George was a Great person, individual of comparison to anyone, why does anything have to be diminished by the prowess of something else? Wouldn't it make much more sense to see all things for what they're great for, rather than what they're not? "Man is the measure of all man", but I would say that is only in inspiration, not expectation.
Ironic that George's last song performed was "All things must pass". Each Beatle brought a gift to us and Spiritually speaking. George was the greatest Beatle.
Always bearing in mind that the Beatles did not always want to be known as a former Beatle, they wanted each to be known for their own music and talent after they split, and that is really why they split if you listen to all of the tapes etc on youtube etc, It was us who would not let them forget the Beatles or that they were always a Beatle. lol George played up front with John and Paul when they were younger, eventually he was off to the side and John and Paul 2gether, upfront.
so, his laswt live song was "All things must pass"?how fitting!!!and that womens guitar is now a treasure !!the last live music from the lead guitar player of the greatest band ever!!
Man, what a loss. A vanishing gem in the world of music.
An artist as musicians should be. Just him, a guitar, and a solo performance that would demolish Taylor Swift, Jusitn Beeeeeber, Lady TaTa's etc. No outlandish costumes or wigs, no huge sound systems, no strings of lights. Just George and his guitar. Did all his own writing and every one of his songs had something to say.
These four pieces of film stiched together are a real treasure .... It makes me smile to George so relaxed, and just speaking and singing from the heart. Again such a gift to see ....
you ealize theses Beatles are just like us with the same pains and fears ..we are trapped like rats down here unless you find the narrow way out ..praise GOD
@wonderwhy61 I know and dying of lung cancer that had spread to his brain, all through his body, I don't know where he found the air or voice to play and sing. But that was George. Dhani will do him proud. Bad english but an expression.
@chasjohn2001 I think that the other 3 being so close, that John was not the soul if there was one, the other 3 were always very close, John was a question mark to me.
@bd9598 Yes, he passed away when he was 58. Much, much too young. Seems like he was a pretty down to earth guy, for a transcendental hippie. RIP, George.
Hey vcr9scab or whatever I wonder if VH1 would have givin Ravi any promo time at all if George wasn't there. Besides if you saw the original broadcast in 1997 you would know Ravi was well promoted. George was a lot more humble than you peckerhead.
@Beatlejoose56 George was humble. He did Bangladesh for Ravi, and was a dear friend of Ravi's. He died 4 years I believe after this was filmed but he battled the cancer for many years. RIP George, Thank You for the gifts that you gave to us by just being you. Playing someone else's guitar and singing was so kind of him, he did not no how to say no I do not think. His lovely wife Olivia and Dhani, his son, are a living tribute. Check Dhani''s music, it's good.
What's funny is that this was supposed to be a promotion of Ravi Shankar's album or music. But it was all about Harrison. And Harrison let it happen. This is not the action of a humble or enlightened man.
@vcx9dfne FYI: this is a rebroadcast VH1 did in the wake of George's death in 2001. When this was originally screened in 1997 George and Ravi talked more about Ravi's album and performed a song from it. I don't think George can be held responsible for VH1's decision to cut out the Shankar footage and air the rest of the raw video AFTER he died! It was clear in the original video that George's intent was to promote Ravi's record, as he did beautifully.
he must have known by then or had a feeling that he was not ok.maybe that is why he was talking about life and death and the meaning of things.paul maccartney was holding hes hand when he died and if i am not mistaken,in pauls house.i have seen a clip of john lennon taliking in 1973 about the other beatles and that he would be open to play with them again if the cause and music were right.the bitterness was over and they were ok again.there is nothing quite like the fab four, never will be.
@corkbender Why do you have to bring Justin Bieber into it? Some people are so obsessed with that kid. There are countless Biebers, there'll only be one George Harrison.
@watchpotch The point you might be missing is that today's music is dominated by the American Idle mentality, and Justin Beiber is a prime example. This video is an example of an interview of substance with a real musician, songwriter, artist. These days what we get are countless breathless interviews with celebrities who talk about nothing of substance. Is Beiber the only one? No. Is he called "bigger than the Beatles" all too often? Yes.
I used to be a musican and songwriter. For many years I haven't picked up my guitar. I wont elaborate on how that happened, but George makes me want to pick it up and actually feel good about it for the first time in a long time.
Thanks for this upload. It's a nice casual last look at George, like sitting in his living room with him.
With George and Beatles in mind, I've posted the video, "40 years in 3 minutes", which is a music video containing the Beatles' rooftop performance, historical events over the last 40 years and 8mm film antics from the period, all cut tightly to GET BACK and GLASS ONION. Hope you enjoy!
First, it was rude to ask George to play on the spot like that. It made him into what Lennon referred to Circus Fleas. Second, I am glad George played as we now have this great video.
Third, you could give a million people those same four chords and not one of us would come up with something as good as this song. It is really amazing to me how these professionals can do that.
If VH-1 wanted to be truly shameless, they could brand this footage as George Harrison Unplugged. Good stuff and I would advise anybody that likes this footage to search for George's demos cause they are of the same caliber as this footage, not too polished or slick but still a delight to the ears.
When I was 14 years old, and the Beatles hit the scene, all my girlfriends were crazy for Paul, but I knew immediately that my heart went to George! I didn't consciously know why then, but in my twenties, I began on my spiritual path, of which I continue to do today. George's music inspires me, and I've learned to play his songs on keyboard and sing them.
John Fugelsang had amazing presence of mind to keep both cool but persistent with George - great tactic to say just rehearse here and tape it, but if you don't like it, we can burn it, non one will see it. Who would have thought that it would turn out to be George's last recorded performance.
@MrRexBailey There is footage of George playing "Your True Love" or "True Love" at Carl Perkins funeral about a year or two after this in TN. It was shot by the local news from the back of the church at Carl's funeral. Ricky Skaggs and maybe its Roseanne Cash who mildly goads him into singing.
"Here comes the sun" possibly meant "here comes the freedom or the true"... since "Think for yourself" Harrison revealed himself as a poet... he was already a great melody composer who confronted the hard adaptation to the difficult duet of McCartney and Lennon but he was growing notably as a writer, "Any Road" is a bright and good sample.
I know it is a dumb point to make, with enjoying each of the guys work with and since that first band, ^^^ is tops in my book.
