True, the source engine is fucked up.. Sometimes people shoot 5 feet before/behind you and still get a kill. Even after tweaking with advanced rates, hitbox still varies from server to server, but it's never perfect. It is really bothersome, since it really takes the motivation to play this game for longer term. CS 1.6 had much more precise hitbox, and I hope they will fix it in CS Global Offensive. If not, they fuck Valve for their irresponsibility

Basically what I was getting at in the end of my last comment (I ran out of room), was that you know as much about video games and the way they are put together as the average kiddie playing a console.
To me it's not as noticeable as displayed on your video here, further more if they really did go that far to the side it would be impossible to shoot someone with a shotgun in the face as they pass you right? I've never had the experience of shooting to the side of someone and getting a kill, but I have to agree with you sometimes the hitbox clipping is off. Also you seem like an idiot who can just confirm things they have heard otherwise you would have said hitbox clipping not 'hitbox'.
all games have hitboxes that are in front of the actual player. This can occur for several reasons.
1) Lag/Latency/Ping...whatever the fuck u wanna call it. Ping accounts for it.
2) It is amazingly hard to code a hitbox that follows a players minutes movements. It is, however, easier to code a hitbox that mimics in advance a players direction of movement.

@danroh89 If the hitboxes had to account for realistic bullet traveling time, then these CSS bullets must be travelling at 5 meters per second which is not realistic at all. If these bullet travelling times are "realistic" , then in real life would you need to shoot that far ahead of a moving target that is 10 m away to hit them? I doubt it since real life bullets are much, much faster. Anyway this video shows a CSS version that's four years old and the hitboxes are nowehere near as bad now.
@HEADSHOTDEALER Yea, theres a game specifically designed for that, where it literately calculates the wind speed, the distance, bulletrange, target movement etc.. I forgot what the game is called but its a sniping game for all I know. Im not quite sure but it could be "Elite Sniper".
CS is decades old hahahah, CS:S's improvement aint that far from 1.6, they had to keep it original (CS 1.0-1.6) and couldnt design too far off because that would just make the game totally different game like COD.

The hitboxes are local, the guy it server sided. CS:S tries to guess where they will be and what you're seeing is the client's guess.

well you fps is really low so thats why your hitboxes are off my fps in game servers are lik 80-120 with no lag what so ever and my hit boxes are fine

It seems Valve didn't pass grade 2?
Cause I'm pretty sure they would have done that with the hit boxes for a reason.

nice vid. you preety much just lead your crosshairs when he strafes. When my target is running towards me and spraying, he hits me but they are scatter shots. Thats why I run backwards. whoop :)

with lag comp turned on which it is by default online the hitboxes mesh with the player model.
This is lan with lag comp off and thats why the hit boxes are not inline with the player models.

I personally think that the purpose of their hitbox not being accurate is for that realistic bullet traveling time?
instead of click = death, perhaps it is for the delay for bullet to actually travel.
obviously if they script the actual bullet within the game, it'll become way too difficult to play.

@danroh89 true, but its still a problem for the use of melee weapons, many times i was hit from what it seemed like 10 feet away by a wrench. pvk suffers from this alot

@danroh89 If the hitboxes had to account for realistic bullet traveling time, then these CSS bullets must be travelling at 5 meters per second which is not realistic at all. If these bullet travelling times are "realistic" , then in real life would you need to shoot that far ahead of a moving target that is 10 m away to hit them? I doubt it since real life bullets are much, much faster. Anyway this video shows a CSS version that's four years old and the hitboxes are nowehere near as bad now.

@HEADSHOTDEALER Yea, theres a game specifically designed for that, where it literately calculates the wind speed, the distance, bulletrange, target movement etc.. I forgot what the game is called but its a sniping game for all I know. Im not quite sure but it could be "Elite Sniper".
CS is decades old hahahah, CS:S's improvement aint that far from 1.6, they had to keep it original (CS 1.0-1.6) and couldnt design too far off because that would just make the game totally different game like COD.

Can't believe anyone thumbed this up. Aside from the fact that you probably shouldn't be aiming a full 4 feet ahead of someone who is a yard away from you, plenty of games have bullet physics. I doubt you or anyone who thumbed this up has a clue as to how bullets or game engines work.

Not to mention the game IS pretty old. Comparing to 1.6 where its click=death, I guess tehy tried being more realistic by adding just abit tweek. I donno, like I said it was my two cents, what do YOU think it is than?

dont listen to julian .. source hit boxes are messed up .. cant remember which team 3d memeber it was but after moving from 1.6 over to source in a interview 1 team 3d member and 4 hours around him stated the game was great visually stunning but it played like shit terrible hitboxes , the hitboxes are so off thats why people think there is interp in the game but its not ex_interp its actually jus shitty hitboxes

Someone doesn't know the first thing about netcode.
The hitboxes are local, the guy it server sided. CS:S tries to guess where they will be and what you're seeing is the client's guess.
I don't expect all you retards on yourtube to understand this, because it's pretty complex stuff but in short no, the hitboxes are great and if you think they are bad you are a fucking moron. The people at valve are professionals and their netcode is great, you, a random idiot on youtube know nothing about it.

Valve has always made terrible hitboxes. Even way back in HLDM they were bad, I shouldn't have to aim in front of someone with a tau cannon to hit them.

I did say that the hitboxes in css were screwed up, I didn't say I had to aim ahead in css to hit people I said hldm. Though they are still fucked. Guess what, making games for a long time has nothing to do with their hitboxes being good or not.

its ok valve does this for a lot of time, but take this example ,id software , making online games for longer then valve with the 3 quakes changing the face of online shooters..u know wich was the main problem with quakelive that came out about a year or 2 ago?client prediction, exactly what this video shows. not that everyone will feel this as much, it depends on the connection quality, so that the client prediction works less with good connections so u may not feel it at all, but its not crap
