@MrsTillyMilly: It's an Ebow. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but it basically vibrates the strings for you and gives you a sort of infinite sustain.
@MrsTillyMilly I know it as a gizmo develeloped by one of ELO in the late seventies/Eighties. it's like a revolving wheel of plectrums to give a sustained sound like a synth this one is probably newer design and just vibrates, you could always use the washing machine on spin cycle for same effect? :D
@cgmcgarty That's the Gizmo, developed by 10cc. An Ebow is something different and it uses magnetism. I'd guess this is an Ebow, but I'm not familiar with what a Gizmo sounds like. According to Wikipedia there are vitually no working Gizmos that still exist, though.
Brian Eno couldn't write a tune either, but it never stopped either of them getting on in the muzak bizness... It helps to move in the right circles!
@ryko26 'Are you comparing the drummer on this track to Brian Eno?'
Not consciously! My comment referred to your own earlier observation regarding Ms Faithful's tunelessness. Perhaps the drummer's just trying to block out the surrounding cacophony...?
For those wishing to check out the instrumental section, it kicks off in earnest at 03:00 ...
