  • I love leslie ann powers hair but amanda bynes rocked it (:

  • The remake was a piece of processed cheese food and no way even close to this original and funny movie. I will love this movie forever. This is a cult film classic.

  • Budget for original movie: $2 million. Budget for the remake: $75 million. What a difference! The industry must spend way more money now than ever! (and Waters has been known to work with low budgets).

  • John Water's best, most tasteful movie. I'll watch it and like it!

  • "It's way beyond Grease"--woah, WOAH. I love Hairspray and all, but I wouldn't go that far haha.

  • @misoveracheverier9157 You Can't Stop The Beat

  • What is the name of the song that is playing at the end?

  • Ricky lake is almost un recognizable

  • I love the guy who's talking.

  • Divine is brilliant.

  • i like the old version

  • I think the 2007 version is way better!!

  • The lady that plays Tracys mom is really a guy. Im just pointing it out to th people who don't know

  • @MarwaSmiley93 I've noticed that crossdressing is easier when a person jas more weight on them--their physical features are less distinguished. And yes, I knew that was Divine!

  • I like this version much better.

  • they probably put you in special ed because you CHOSE to have that hair

  • some one needs to put this one on you tube

  • play 2:08 to 2:09 over and over again... live forever

  • this was filmed at my school! i go to perry hall highschool, bmore MD

  • it's better hairspray of 2007

  • This is one of those rare instances where the remake is actually better (the 2007 one)

  • i dont like this version

  • Are they singing in that version?

  • They put me in special ed just because of my hair! LMAO XD LOVE THAT PART.

  • i usually dont like remakes but the remake is much better in so many ways the original movie was tacky and the acting was horrible and 2007 was more realistic sorry but true i love the broadyway but the original movie was tacky

  • *oh mother you so 50s* lol

  • loving this! it's so genuine and not trying hard :)

  • this movie was far superior to the new one in many ways. Why does hollywood have to keep trying to remake good movies? Why not do something different and remake crappy movies into something better? :)

  • Was Matthew Morrison in this?

  • @Zoey4223 no he was in the musical

  • Divine Rules !!!!!

  • The first was The Best. John Travolta couldn't touch Divine with a/his 7" pole.

  • I liked the 2007 remake better. Nikki Blonsky was a lot better in it than Ricki Lake. I could just feel her enthusiasm!

  • The Broadway Musical is the best!!!

  • Divine died before the movie came out. He didnt get to see himself :(

  • I love john waters! And i miss Divine!!!

  • @kidrauhlbia Just think when you are 27 and older you will be like I prefer older movies. HAHA.

  • @kidrauhlbia Hopefully when you're older you'll realize that talent is just a *smidge* more important than looks in an actor. Or in anyone else, for that matter. Although from the looks of American film, an awful lot of grown adults still haven't figured that out.

  • The scene where Tracy & Edna go to the beauty parlor looks just like a scene from the Joan Crawford movie,"Strait-Jacket." That movie is posted on YouTube take a look and see for yourself because it's a great movie, search,"Strait-Jacket Part 1" Hairspray 1988 has better music than the 2007 version, Good Morning Baltimore is the only song that I like and it's not even that great. Ruth Brown was better than Queen Latifah too, Queen was too young to play thay role. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO !

  • I LIKE GREASE BETTER!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I love both movies ^_^ but they cheated in this one....they used a guy who already dressed in womens clothing :p lol

  • I like this better than the 2007's remake.

  • @sittingalone .. I agree. 2007's was a nice try, though.

  • It seems such irony that a film made in the EIGHTIES is calling the sixties the time of hair-dos and hair-don'ts.

  • most of times I usually prefer original versions, but this time I had an exception u.u I prefered the new version :/

  • @a17morseth I agree with you.. Usually i HATE remakes. .but the new version is SOOOOOO much better !

  • haaa divine got to love him..her...whatever

  • tracy's dad is the guy that owns the dress shop in the new version!

  • @tbrew222 Yeah! That's Jerry Stiller from The King of Queens (carrie's dad) right?

  • @tbrew222 that`s right !! haha

  • new comedy by john waters.... DO THE CREEP AHHAHHHH

  • LOL when Tracy repiles 'Oh, mother, you are so 50's'

  • I really didn't like Amber in the film, so she seemed so stuck up

  • Rikki Lake...why is that name so familiar??/

  • @YaoiAngel00 she had a talk show remember?

  • "Let's get nekked and smoke."

lol most people today would just shrug and say "OK!".

  • sei la como se fala inglês então eu digo good

  • This version is much better.

  • I prefer this version, both were good, but This one with Ricki lake i think is best!

  • After watching both this and the remake, I prefer the remake. The music is so infectious in the new one and I love musicals.

  • @Gettinbuzz I agree! I thought the original was going to be a musical aswell :(

  • This one is WAAAAY better than the remake...plus the remake doesn't have MIchael St. Gerard in it...:D

  • WAIT A MINUTE! ... is that Divine? *dies*

  • This one is more serious about race then the new version. The new one has more singing and dancing in it. That's what makes the new one better then this

  • this was on yesterday :D

  • John waters, got it right,he lived it! This Original is The Best!!

  • MICHAEL ST. GERARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Vitamin C is the original Amber. Looks nothin like her lol.

  • WOW I had no idea Debbie Harry the original Velma von Tussle!! WOW!!

  • if you watch the 2007 Hairspray and then watch this trailer, this looks kinda like a parody of Hairspray.

  • Um, Grease is way better than this crap. Just saying.

  • @keiraleejade Well, I wouldn't go so far as to call it crap... unless you are talking purely about the '88 version. If that's the case, then I withdraw.

  • @KaptinKilla but there would be no broadway musical or 2007 movie without it, gott give props to John Waters, he started it all!

  • @KaptinKilla I am talking about the '88 version.

  • I see Divine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So accurate about the times. I still have this original on VHS tape. My TV 30 year old US made TV has a built in VHS player so I watch it regularly (TV plays beautifully). Love the loony smiles and ernestness.

  • The one and only.

  • I love that Ricki Lake had a cameo in the musical version.

  • Who is the girl at 1:24? She looks so familiar!

  • @jamesthemaniac Pia Zadora!

  • I saw this version so long ago, and I had no idea that was Debbie Harry! Well, actually, I didn't know who she was then. XD But now I do, and I want to watch the movie again sometime. :)

  • What song is at 0:42? I looked at the soundtrack and previewed the songs and I don't know which one is it.

  • I'm mad he sad it way beyond grease cuz I luved that mobie

  • @timbertans no way i love that mobie too!

  • Hairspray The Broadway Musical was the best!!

  • i like both of the hairspray movies

  • I like both but i like the 2007 one I didn't c the brodway one but it had matthew Morison in it!

  • Debbie Harry and Sonny bono married. Awesome.

  • Only thing missing in this movie is...Cher!

  • @vrus85 Why do they need Cher, they already have one drag queen.

  • Can the original be bought on dvd?????????? I so wanna watch it again!!!!!! X

  • i like both of the hairspray movies

  • Jerry Stiller was in the 2007 Hairspray movie as well. And still looks the same today

  • Grease is the word...

  • lol "lets get naked and smoke" I want to watch this now just to see what led up to that line.

  • @Clearie552 watch it for a billion other reasons. (: its a classic.

  • @cherryblossom141 lol when I watched the original, I realized some of the songs of the musical were inspired from background tracks of the movie.

  • this is the best verson of the film love it

  • the dolly madison

  • 1:45 elvis presley

  • Stilll the BEST.

  • I love how they called Grease out "It's way better than Grease!" Haha competition...

  • i think the new one is better

  • I personally think this is so much better than the new one! Its songs were less annoying, and every other line wasn't about her size like in the new one.

This one was really campy and funny. Besides, it had Debbie Harry and Divine in it.

    <3

  • "It's way beyond "Grease" " I dont think so :P Nothing's beyond Grease ;)

  • I'd like to watch this

  • My all time favorite movie! The new version is a farce, so far removed from the original- they took all the raw soul away

  • Comment removed

  • ha! jerry stiller was in both of the hairsprays

  • i like riccki lake and love johnny depp in cry baby

  • The main problem i have with the new one is how all of the actors are model-looking. This is so much more real (with the normal-looking actors)

  • I think this version is much better than the new one(:

  • @xLovey27x

    thank you for saying "I"

people are just like the original IS better or the new one IS better

    *sigh*

  • I love that Debbie Harry from Blondie is in this.

  • the new version is better

  • i always wondered why my parents said the original was better, well now i understand, they divine was a nutcase

  • @THEtinyemo *they say divine is a nutcase (sorry, typo)

  • lets get naked and smoke ahahahah

  • i love both versions. john waters is one of my fav filmmakers. hope he makes a new movie soon

  • I like this one better than the remake, but the costumes are way more authentic in the remake. These ones are 80's mixed with 60's.

  • I like the newer one better.. But thats cause im 15 and saw that one first :)

  • its funny when he's like its way beyond greese

  • I love/adore this movie. I loved it even before they made the remake!! Both are great, but this one is a classic. It got me addicted to more music from those times back when I was about 15, just a few yrs before they made the newer one :)

  • I like the 1988 version!

  • Is this before they added music?

  • This version is pretty cool, but the one with Nikki Blonsky is better. I like this one and the remake, both.

  • WHAAA??? Matthew Morrison does NOT play link Larson !!!!

  • @JaydenSings98 No, but he did on the broadway shows

  • AAAHHHH! RICKI LAKE

  • i liked the new version but this one was 20 times better.... i loved this movie

  • "Let's get naked and smoke!". Fucking love this movie.

  • 0:35 what the song?

  • I refuse to even glance at any Disneyfied remake/musical from a few years ago, because this movie is fab to start with. You know any remake has to be a let down.

I hate that so many people don't seem to realise that Hairspray is a film about teenage culture and black civil rights, not just minidresses and beehives.

  • this movie was filmed at my high school!!!! hell yeaa Perry Hall in Baltimoreee

  • Ah, Divine. R. I. P. What a quivering mound of thespian flesh

  • omg....rapist narritor of the 70s and 80s.......=O......but love this movie

  • I prefer the 2007 version =)

  • I agree!

  • i didn't even know that the 2007 version was a remake... is this one any good

  • I just saw the new one, and I want to watch the older version again. There were a lot of scenes from the original that were omitted out of the remake.
