But I'm part Chinese and having family members living in Xi'an (not so developed and rich as Shanghai) and been there 5 times AND regularly having contact with Chinese exchange students from my school and they are nice people but I don't think I can judge all the Chinese as polite and friendly nor as rude and disgusting based on the experiences of contacts with just a few people. But if you speak their language you will earn alot of respect from them.
