That is Toots...this recording had Johnny Mercers's final compositon, which was also the title, My New Celebrity Is You. It's available at her website, 16 tracks of pure bliss!
Hello every one, I am sad to here that she has passed away ,I heard her live, playing electronic piano at the Ronny Scott club in London, and have since purchased
a volume of her piano transcriptions with a CD, Thanks to Utube her music will live for "ever"
years ago i bought a compliation( i dont like them but i wantd to hear da words to many of gershwins songs since i usually heard instrumentals)and someone to watch over me was there with an unforgettable vocal by this little teeny hisoprano voice but the reading was unmistakably musical ,unfussy but each note with meaning and so i had to ind more of her.the piano she plays is great like Sh.Horn in that its voicings are singular.Wanted to see some old film of hers .Anyway she is unique &special!
Blossom was a unique talent. She wrote many of the songs she shared with us, Fran and I heard her many nights at the Ballroom in the Village. She didn't always land every note, but what the hell! Her voice came to us as if she were on the second story of a doll house, as one critic put it. She passed away just last month, but her talent always remains.
Such expressive vocals, sweet, clear, beautiful - not overblown. Compare, for instance, w/all American Idol winners, contestants for that matter! who think they have to bellow to "sing"...
Agreed. The great Harry Shearer played 3 of Blossom's songs on Le Show last week. That was the week including 15Sep09. He said something like we've lost her, but not her vocalizations.
Lovely! No fireworks, no sledge hammers, no pornography, no stupidity . . . just unadorned, unpretensious, understated beauty. Pure music, so refreshing. The ears of the world are thirsty for sounds like this. Dear Blossom Dearie, thank you . . .
One of Blossom Dearie's enduring legacies will be that she HATED the "music" of Andrew Lloyd Webber, the biggest hack who ever claimed to be a song writer. I have loved Blossom since seeing her perform in New York in the early 70s and again in the early 80s. I think I have everything she ever released. I'm going to miss her so...
I seem to remember her appearing rather frequently on the Tonight show when Johnny Carson was the host. Can anyone confirm?

This is a great rendition by a great vocalist. Love that guitar bit at the end too.

Her voice can be heard in the song "Adjectives" on the ABC series "Schoolhouse Rock" in the 1970's.
