This song was written by Lonnie Young and Ed Young, and has been covered a LOT -- also by Jim Kweskin Jug Band (with Maria Muldaur on vocals), the Derek Trucks Band, Robben Ford, and Foghat, among others
@theatlantisrise "better"? Differently - with more of a roots blues feel. But Trucks is covering Taj's version. Taj generously rephrased the original "if you'll do something for me" as "just to do something for you," which is what Truck's vocalist sings. Phrasings, etc. are Taj. I prefer Taj's funkier, more danceable version, myself.
man. there are so many great taj mahal songs, can't pick just one. but this one is right up there. right up there. love that funky bass line. just can't get enough of it...this is my jam. makes me feel 18 again.
Can you think of any song that is more rubber to the road than Chevrolet? Make that long stretch of Rte 66 from Phoenix to L.A. and you'll know what I mean. Genuine Americana! Taj Mahal is the TRUTH y'all.

Derek Trucks/Mike Mattison do it better, but respect to the Taj. Great tune.

I think this is one of the last tunes Jesse Ed Davis did with him. It sure sounds like him on guitar.

I remember when I first heard this song. It was like finding gold. Just wish it was longer.
