  • interesting!

  • Gotta say, while Gene Wood may have sounded quite awful with the introductions and Come on Downs, he did an absolutely magnificent job describing these small prizes.

  • FYI, this game was retired because the producers thought Buy or Sell (basically a copy of this game) was a lot snazzier.

  • I still thing Give or Keep is better - Buy or Sell should have been retired instead!

  • Give or Keep and Buy or Sell both had their own different dynamics. I don't see why they couldn't keep both. Hell, they keep the Bonus Game in even with Shell Game, so I don't see why they couldn't have both.

  • Well, if you wanted Buy or Sell retired, you got your wish. However, we don't know the reasons why the game was retired.

  • I remember that Gene Wood announced "Card Sharks," "Double Dare," "Family Feud," "Password Plus," "Super Password," "Love Connection," "Classic Concentration," and "Win, Lose or Draw"

  • @animfan1 Gene Wood was also a longtime close friend of Richard Dawson and I also heard him on Child's Play, Now You See It, Bruce Forsyth Hot Streak as well as Baby Races and The Original Family Challenge.

  • @tnawcwvictoria What kind of show was "Baby Races" about? I've never even heard of it.

  • @animfan1 It was a Game Show on The Family Channel during the 93/94 Season and it was hosted by the late Fred Travelena and it was produced by Former G-T Producer Robert Sherman and it was a Game Show about Babies competing for Prizes

  • So playing by the rules and keeping all the higher-priced items: The Keep total would've been $124 ($54 for the Blender, $35 for the Blouse, and $35 for the Sweeper), and the Give total would've been $148 ($48 for the Iron, $25 for the Containers, and $25 for the Popper). That would've meant a loss, had she gone by the rules on all 3 pairs and kept all the higher-priced prizes. Confirm?

  • Whoops, my math is wrong. It would be $98 in the Give total. So she would've won. My bad.

  • This game is just guessing the higher price on 2 out of three prizes.

  • The contestant playing the game was one of the First Four.

  • was this during the process of replacing johnny?

  • Yes this was just after Jhonny's passing.

  • Why did Bob want to know what the blouse was made of?

  • The contestant must have asked him and he wanted to verfiy what Gene said.

  • This game could work today. It shouldn't have been retired.

  • I actually seem to recall this pricing game...if not vividly LOL. I was in the 9th grade (age 14) when this clip aired, just after Olson's death...so maybe that's why I don't recall Gene Wood subbing as announcer till they found Roddy to do it, but when I was home from school sometimes I watched TPIR.

  • You're right. All it needed was maybe to be staged slightly differently.

  • Which they never retried this game.

  • What is the date that this episode aired? I know Gene Wood announced from November 11 to December 6, but can anyone be more specific?

  • Any more tape of Gene on TPIR? I'd like to hear a good come-on down from him!

  • I just uploaded a show open from Gene Wood it's on my page.

  • What game shows did Gene Wood announce?

  • He's mostly known for Family Fued, but he also did a fill-in on PIR (as this video shows), Classic Concentration, and Super Password.

  • Not to mention Card Sharks and Match Game 90.

    LONG LIVE BOB BARKER!!

  • Match Game 90 (and 98) SUCKED!! The original MG73-79 and PM with Rayburn is all I need!

  • he was retired then

  • pretty cool RIP gene

  • He should've been chosen to announce TPIR, even after Rod's death. (Because Gene's resume was mostly G-T, and TPIR is a G-T show)

  • Wasn't gonna happen. Gene died 6 months later.

  • You mean that wasn't Gene Wood who did the Combs version of the Family Feud in 1992?

    Gene didn't die until 2004.

  • Okay 7 months later. Rod died in October of 2003, and Gene dies in May of 2004.
