Decent, but you should remove the 3:2 pull down for the constant motion scenes (water, etc.). Also, I know it was just a test, but the music reminded me too much of an ad for an apartment complex. Spice it up a bit!

Please can anyone tell me how you can edit these videos taken by the 5D MARK II ?

I have it and the videos are sooo heavy and almost impossible to play. I just wanna know how to convert them into lighter files keeping the quality. THANK YOU SO MUCH I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE AN ANSWER.

I have a Canon HF20, which means the .mts files are hard to edit in realtime due to the quality. I go into like, vegas 8, and render the full HD .mts as a 640 x 360 mp4. Then I go into whatever editing program I want to use, and then edit the video(s). Once i'm done and ready to render, I move the .mp4 640 x 360 video from it's original location, or rename it. Then when the program asks for a replacement file, select the full HD .mts as a replacement. Then you should be able to render HD.

I understand your using Vegas 8 since most other products, namely CS3 doesn't work with the AVCHD compression, but why are you saving from 1920 x 1080 Full HD, all the way down to 640 x 360? Doesn't Vegas 8 allow you to save as a 1920x1080 AVI or MOV?

I reread my first comment, and I was kind of confusing.

In order for my computer to be able to edit the Full HD videos, i have to compress them into a 640 x 360 .mp4. (simply render them with those settings)

That way, I can use effects, transitions, and other things to edit it. But since I rendered it prior in the smaller res, it makes it easier to preview.

Once I'm done editing, I then move the smaller res file from the original location, so Vegas, or Aft FX asks you for a replacement-

file. Then I select the full HD .mts, and substitute it for the smalller res mp4. Then, you can render the video in full HD.

In Vegas, I typically render in 1280 x 720 res, as a .wmv. This works the best for my computer, but I'm sure any other file types would work fine.  Also, before using the AVCHD video in Aft FX, I render it in Vegas first as a .wmv. Then I usually don't have nay problems.

Thanks for the reply. I was up all night trying to make sense of how I'd go about doing it. It's a real shame that the Adobe suite doesn't work with the AVSCHD format unless you upgrade to CS4.

Canon is releasing the HF S200 in a couple weeks. It brings back the view finder and has a few other options I like, but it's of course $300 more so still debating. I just thought if I down sized it to a lower rez like that, that I would lose all of the higher quality I filmed it in

Yes, by downsizing it you do lose quality. I just use the lower res to make editing easier, and then I switch in the full HD file. If you don't need to edit, I would put the video in Vegas, and render it as the same resolution, and as a .mp4 or .wmv. This will significantly compress the file size, while at the same time maintaining quality and the ability to play smoothly on your computer. I am going to post a video in a few days, so I will comment when I post it.

I used to use Ulead too, I liked the simplicity of it, some of the more complicated things were automated. The sound volume was always buggy as hell though. I use Premier Pro now, though the learning curve is way more pronounced than for Ulead.

nice. it is interesting that this is about the same performance you use to get from those 3k sony 3ccd HD cameras. the only real exception is that the lens is not swappable on most consumer cameras.. Would be awesome if one company did do that.. something like make it take SLR camera lenses .

Sorry I had missed this comment. The moon shot was taken with the digital zoom, manual focus and manual exposure. I then blew the shot up slightly in the Editing Suite and rendered at 720p.
