  • Laura, Laura, one minute of bliss!!

  • i heard it for the first time yesterday too

  • This is priceless footage! I am also totally THRILLED about Laura's Rock Hall induction. Shocked and amazed that the Hall actually did the right thing on this one, she's so deserving. Laura is dancing on a Star right about now!

  • CONGRATULATIONS to all Laura's fans for helping her to finally win induction into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for 2012! It's been a LONG time coming, but we will finally see the induction committee do the right thing and induct her next April!

  • Thanks so much for posting this, had the original record on 45 as a kid, and loaned it to a friend and never got it back LOL. Have never heard it played anywhere on the radio, ever.

  • I think the 1967 Moneterey festival was dominated by Jimi Hendrix. It could have been very easy to overlook Laura in all the Hendrix hoopla. But we see from the vide that they did not boo her; they applauded. Thank god; she went on to a brilliant career, that I am just now appreciating. There is a 1969 interview with her, posted on You Tube. Well worth listening to; she is obscure but coherent, unlike so many others at that time: e.g try listening to Janis Joplin speak. Nothing but jargon...

  • She is about 18 years old in this video. What a woman! I would have been scared s***less on that stage; of course I am not now and never have been a musical genius like Laura. Reading the below comments about the fesitval, she may have appeared out of step with the "reigning culture" of the 1967 concert. Trying to be fair, maybe it is easier today to say "to hell with the dress, listen to the music" than it was then, given the year 1967. Regardless, it looks like it was a great performance.

  • Quite scary to say this, She looks a bit like Amy Winehouse without the hair and makeup job in this. Not comparing or anything, but it would have been cool if Amy did this and Poverty train.

  • Ok everyone, it's time to wake up, and stop believing in the moronic myth - we HAVE the footage RIGHT HERE that proves it stone cold WRONG!

There isn't a whole lot of surviving film of Laura in concert, so these Monterey clips are like precious gems to her fans. Please don't let idiotic, false gossip taint these great performances.

KUTVgroucho, if what you say is true, than it's official, I'm gonna make my own Michael Lydon Voodoo Doll, and find me some VERY rusty pins.... ;)

  • Great version, I wish it was from the beginning.

  • @CraigG1960 apparently, the audio of the whole song exists, but only this video, so this is what's on the Monterrey video

  • As I understand, a dickweed journo from Rolling Stone named Michael Lydon invented this story about Laura Nyro being roundly booed during her performance, a story which was disputed by many in attendance. Some critics didn't fancy her retro-night club styled performance in a long black dress (along with her back-up singers) during this tie-dyed Summer of Lovefest , despite the fact that she also sang "Freedom Train," a clear protest song very much in tune with the times.

  • So adorable she was. Monterrey is about the only place you can see Laura as a stand up singing, not playing.

  • I heard this concert was a disaster for her because the musicians couldn't keep up with her.

  • Heard this for the first time yesterday and I can't stop listen to it.
