Vangelis is one of the greatest musicians and composers of our time. Vangelis will be remembered like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (& other great composers of the past) and his music will live on forever.
this guy is unique couse his music, but this song's Theme is the very same in melody and Harmony from Beethoven's 5th Symphony 2nd mov, in the minor part, when clarinet and oboe come
Since very young I was captured by Vangelis' talent and started to collect all his releases. Nowadays, I have a wonderful collection in vinyl and Cd's that I treasure the most.
I consider Vangelis a genius and in the near future he will be recognize as one of the greatest masters of music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Some people are always talking about Bach,Mozzart,Chopin,Vivaldi etc.But HE IS GREATEST!He should be the most popular composer of this era."Spiral","Albedo",Chartiots of Fire,"Anarctica","Direct",1492,"Alexander"....All musical masterpieces!!!
VANGELIS is great! Rock, Pop, Classic, Film Music, Dream Music.... It`s a great composer. Have a long life, best health to you VANGELIS! And good luck and happiness - Atolis
From Vangelis Papathanasiou!!"Mythodea: Music for the NASA Mission: 2001 Mars Odyssey" is a choral symphony by the Greek electronic composer Vangelis performed at the Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens on June 28, 2001.Mythodea was made the official theme music of the mission involving the NASA unmanned spacecraft orbiting the planet Mars.Toso shmantikoi einai oi ΕΛΛΗΝΕΣ!!!
This is the first time I have heard him talk. I have noticed all of the vangelis fans are usually very supportive of this great artest. He is the best artest of all time and will have avid loyal and smart fans.
I think it's a little bit of a misnomer to state that Vangelis never learned music theory. While he didn't learn it in the classical sense, through school, his knowledge of true music theory when applied to composition and creativity dwarfs what any music professor on the face of the earth could teach any student.
you are kidding??? whilst you are entitled to your opinion , the panpipe version is just a pale copy lacking the majestic glory and just about everything that made the original such an inspiring piece.
To be honest, I like the original, but I never liked it that much, it Had more humming than it needed in my point of view, the only "majestic glory" that I sensed in it was the piano notes, which sounded amazing, as for the rest, I just don't like this version as much as the one made with the Pan Flute.. in my point of view it gives it more "Mystery" :)
vangelis IS never seen dressed down in ANY footgae. always scarves, cravats, even suited up .
the cs80 was "HIS VOICE" which helped make him what he is today. In the same way JAN HAMMER maximised the minimoog and oberheim gear for that superb semi-guitar sound.
to label Vangelis as a movie composer , although its very nice to call him the 2nd best.. , i think its a seriously restrictive title when you consider what he does, movie composing is just a smaller part of what he does... he does so much more than a movie composer. But its a nice compliment never the less Sherrycee.
i envy him because he has absolute control of his works even half of his work is not been published yet, bounty missing bitter moon etc... is very strange seen in an interview is very shy and not very open for me his last great work was el greco, stunning piece of music!
JG Marduk: It seems you are not living in the world or you have very little information. Another Great Greeks are: Nana Moskuori, a charming singer. Konstantino Palisatras, an incredible tennor. Maria Callas, the famous soprano opera singer, Yannis a musician in Vangelis style. All of them don't tell you anything?
Definitively a rare cut, Vangelis might be simple,
but even if he is a true worker, he did find the balance for him, and surely some luck, it must be so strange to feel that you are the creator of all of what he realized and that now the world knows and appreciate
Striking how a man of such genius can stay so modest and gentle, even after decades of success. Thanks for this rare and precious glimpse into a brilliant mind!

yes, well... jarre and oldfield specially this one,are for me very lost, they dont know what compose...the inspiration in both sides is in a very low lebel, jarre now is a simple tecno machine man and the ingles.... well the ingles took too much drugs in ibiza i think...while mr. vangelis is doing what he always do, composing in a quite good level EVEN today, wich is a merit!... sakamoto for me could be his big oponent, this one has extraordinary talent too.
he does what he wants and i think that has absolutly control of his work he also has extraordinary material for a live concert but he is a litle bit shy, and of course he is not jarre....
Seems I have 1740 different Vangelis tracks, albeit some are identical from different releases. All that unreleased material surfaced in FIC or OWM or other miscellaneous collections. It was never published, but it's out there. I wish it were published, high quality audio. Love this guy.
I read a while back, Vangelis said he composes music every day, even when not on a job, so there's no way he could release everything. But what a glory it would be to hear all that 90% unreleased material. I love this guy. I'm an electronic musician myself and Vangelis was and is a great influence.
Nobody, in my opinion, can capture images in their mind and transform them into music as immaculately and soulfully as the great Evangelos Odyssey Papathanassiou. Genius is a word that is annoyingly over-used these days; but it's a title than Vangelis has the right to... the greatest composer of our generation. Long may the journey continue!
indeed he speaks like ridley scott very calmly, i'd like to see another work with ridley and vangelis, and yes TODAY is for me is one of few good composers his traditional/ modern compositions are eternals...
Magic...Vangelis is magic....Vangelis, Jean Michelle Jarre, Mike Oldfield are the most gifted composers I've evere listened...Magnific...Thanx for this video....
this is just ridiculous, he's slightly insane & i love it. imagine, open vision living in the middle of paris. it makes sense, the light effects your mood, the romanticism yet logical reasoning of it play so well off each other. i laughed with delight most of the way through this interview. his lust for life is inspiring. thank you for the upload.
The man is either a wizard or a warlock of musical majesty, he's lived a very interesting and colourful life, I'd love to visit this studio sometime if it's still around. Interesting, as you note in this interview Vangelis' eyes, like that of a cat! Reminds me of that character in 'Cats', Bustopher Jones!
