Drum jams are fun, but really good music is the result of a correct blend of all instruments. Compositions with overbearing and wild drumming do not become blockbuster hits. Abe has the skill and understands what it takes to make his instrument lend to the music what the music needs. That is why he is among the best in the world. That is also why he drums for McCartney.

@luiscurtolo They're three different kinds of drummers. This was an element where they had to mix all three styles together freestyle. In this particular session, one contributed a very technical display here (Thomas), one had creative contributions that geld them all together here (Abe), one contributed a more cultural style here (Terry, that guy with the biggest set, contributed what sounded like something of a Latin flair in this one).  They're all very good.

For the people who criticize Bozzio...

Just keep in mind that he's 60 and still at the peak of his creative edge.

He has played on more than 60 albums, and has done numerous world tours.

He has played with Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Allan Hodsworth among others.

He has nothing to prove, he's just followimg his creative path, and if he needs a monster-like drum set for that, what's the problem?

By the way I like the two others drummers too.

Terry's style is pretty much completely different from either of the two (or anyone, I mean, who else has a setup like he does?). Pridgen is my favorite guy here, but that doesn't mean I can't recognize how much of a beast Bozzio is.

I personally thought this entire "jam" was just one big mess. Don't get me wrong, they're all incredible drummers, but Pridjen was doing this monstrous solo, like usual, and neither Abe or Terry were meshing with that.. maybe it would have been better if they traded off or something, while the other 2 people just jammed.. but 3 solos going on at once, was a bit ridiculous. Also, I would have to agree that Bozzio was the weakest here. He has a big kit, and that's about it.

well i think thomas pridgen is one of the greatest drummers out there, same with bozzio with his 75 piece drumset. But i never heard of Abe Laboriel Jr who is he. All in all this is such a awesome drum jam. its tight. Terry has a good sound kit :)
