@nickruelamasu you can use a microphone, but you wont have a clean sound and you may experience "audio feedback".

@1clinttorris no worries.... based on previous comments i would say some people have troubles finding the correct input :D. And the settings are not standard, so you may have to play with it to find the right setup for you guitar. also I no longer have the 3.5mm to 1/4 inch adapter, so I would not be able to make another video using this method :(

please do another video, this time allow us a longer look at how you have the MIDI settings set. (couldn;t see them for captions over them also) We all have enough sense to plug a guitarr in. where everyone is having problems is in getting the bitrate and htz properly configured, and also problems with the computer's sound device settings. dude i have the same item at 0:44 but it doesnt have the little shiny ring in the hole! it fits with the double sided mic transfer thing to the laptops mic jack but when i start guitar rig 5 it doesnt make any sound!!! i want to play my guitar already... :'(

Thx a lot! just git guitar rig pro 5 from pirate bay yesterday and I've been looking all over the internet to find how to make it work without having to buy the rig kontrol. Great Video. Only problem now is the bad noise in the background when I play but still don't really know how to use the program so im guessing its just a setting or something, I'll mess around with for a while. Works, awesome! Thanks man! You forgot to mention a change of settings in GR5>File> Settings > Routing and the selection of "IN" port in ASIO4ALL. Some devices need a few changes in those for it to work

why do we need Asio4all?

@lucayildirimer9 ASIO4ALL is the driver that allows you to use and configure your line-in or microphone jacks. If you dont insall it, you will need a GR Kontrol to use your guitar.

@wwe1997JEFFHARDYfan you connect the cable to either your microphone or line-in inputs. then you go to Audio settings and make sure your input are either the Mic or Line-in and the output is your speakers. ASIO4ALL settings are not something standard, which means you have to figure it out by yourself :(

@Only4Isro look at your playback devices make sure you have your speakers as default.

Check you outputs in "Audio and MIDI settings" > Routing, and make sure you have your out puts as speakers, and inputs as line-in or microphone.

Thanks for this vid. I recently got guitar rig 5, and thought that I had to get that special pedal to plug my guitar into a pc. (I already have the headphone jack adaptor from an effect pedal I got from my mom's bf, and an audio line from an outdoor speaker I use.) I had no idea that I can use stuff I already have to plug my guitar into my pc until I saw this video. Thanks for saving me money. lol

how is this connector called?

@thanoskakourhs I think it is a 3.5mm stereo jack. so, you should look for a cable with two of these jacks. Input and Output. :)

It also happened to me sometimes, i worked it out by messing around with asio, but maybe your problem was the soundcard, or maybe the cables, i dont know :( A little bit more information would be welcomed.

@wittynit It is a song that comes with Cyberlink Power Director 8. You go to: Smart Music Button --> Then select Style: Futuristic --> Then select "synergy" --> And then i think i chose "Avenue"; not sure.
