I appreciate that this doesn't look like much, but the philosophical implications could be pretty big, although much more thorough research would be required to make a decision, and a better understanding of robotics on my part.
Those who do not actually work with robotics may not appreciate the difficulties behind the scenes to make something like this. Yeah, this hardware does not look so cool (but I like the punk clothing!) - there are better platforms out there. But what these robots seem to be doing is something quite different. They seem to be able to evolve some sort of language between them. This is not a toy anywaybut basic research: a significant progress. I look forward to further developments. Well done.
Whoever designed this should have not programmed that massive and distracting vibrato into the robot's voices (so distracting that it makes the attempted pitches of the robot undiscernable).
Without this attribute, we would then see that the robots are only singing simple strings of tones upto about ten in length, with no real expression. The false superimposed vibrato gives people the false sense of expression.
This is highly innovative stuff! Embodied cognition really has come of age with this. There's no knowing where this might go. Anyone else having visions of Mars Attacks!? ;-)
The realism of the voices is very nice. The arm movements are perhaps not quite so expressive! Today robots sing the same tune, tomorrow they judge X-Factor?
it is almost moving... they seem also dancing like in a gurdjieff sacred dance. what about the human interction and when it will be possible a "mixed" performance? great work!

Seems to be very little "learning" going on from beginning to end.

It is getting closer to the time when robots can produce music that human minds can not conceive

Now they have a victory song for when they take over the world.

There's something about music which makes robots seem more "human" - it's almost like some sort of ceremony amongst the robots!
