  • Motley Crue and Def Lep???? Now THAT'S a top 40!! :-)

  • @Cavannaro And the Beastie Boys too!! Holy crap.

  • From 1986 to 1993 music in the UK was utter fucking shit thanks to the likes of these wankers on TOTP's.

  • Radio 1 DJs are such a disgusting breed.

  • Whoa... this is from July 30th? That's my birthday, actually - LOL. I was born in 1975 though. I definitely remember "True Faith" being on the radio in Houston, TX at the time it was out. Huge impact on me. Adored New Order since then.

  • 1987...best year of my youth, wish i could go back

  • Who sat down rowing to the Gap Band song then.

  • Toss up between Gary Davies or Peter Penis Powell as to who was the most ,bland vaccuous, boring D.J./Top of the Pops presenter !!! Oh sorry forgot about Mike Smith! Some cracking music though(Not Roadblock of course)

  • Is there anychance you could sell to me any shows from 1986 & 1987 mainly that I may not have, or swap copies of some of yours with stuff I have?

Other years as well...what do you say?

  • I remeber all these except Judy Boucher. Did she spawn South African wicketkeepers by any chance?

  • OMG. LOVED THIS ONE! some of the songs i cringe at..o weel i was 15... but out in the clubs. was fun you women pedifilez hahahha

  • I was born the very next day! New Order & PSB Rule!

  • Bloody hell, that brought back some memories!

  • We need all chart run-downs :D

  • I agree with you Olrors! The presenters should always be impartial when annoucing the top hits of the week. They all deserve the same chance regardless of who likes what. It all changed in the 90's. It's never been the same since.

  • Ah the days when Top Of The Pops was a (relatively) impartial CHART SHOw!!

    *bows to 'True Faith'*

  • What font are these graphics? But what I do know these were introduced on this edition of TOTP and lasted until Christmas 1988.

  • The numbers are Times New Roman Bold, and the band/singer names are Futura Bold Condensed.

  • Hey, this is the chart on my first birthday.

This chart is interesting, though, for several reasons...the bottom of the chart has American hair metal, Stock/Aitken/Waterman and a few of their productions commandeer a few positions in the Top 40, Spagna's "Call Me" debuts on its road to the bridesmaid position, Cliff Richard, Whitney Houston, New Order's "True Faith" debuts, and a-ha is on the charts with their Bond theme.

This is one of the most interesting rundowns I've seen yet. Thanks.

  • Thanks for continuing to put these great charts on YouTube. Looking forward to some more.

  • More coming soon!

  • New Order - True Faith, absolute 80's classic!

  • Yes it is an absolute classic. What is interesting is that I never really liked the song for nearly 20 years until I heard it on American Top 40 - The 80s and heard the "Morning Sun Remix" edit. After that point, I bought the 12" version on Itunes, but still had a bloody hard time looking for the 7" edit of that special version. In short this up to date one of my most played songs (overall since 2007) on Itunes so far up to #55, Thanks for sharing!:)
