I first heard this masterpiece on a 9-CD bootbox of Beatles BBC sessions. Why it wasn't included on Apple's official 2-disc set is beyond me! (Somebody needs to animate this gem, BTW...) - 1b2s
The Calvin religion says God blesses the chosen few with great monetary wealth. The Beatles prove this truth. But it's better to be a meat-abstaining Catholic. Buy lots of Beatles CD's; Michael Jackson owns the rights.
Rolf Harris and The Beatles together. What a bunch of talented geniuses joined in a small room. Maybe I'm the only peruvian who think Rolf is a living legend. I would like to watch him singing. At least once before I'm gone...
This is from a BBC Light Programme (it became BBC Radio One in 1967 after a reorganization of the BBC's radio networks) broadcast ("Pop Go The Beatles") taped in 1963 hosted by the Beatles with Rolf Harris as a guest star (the subpar fidelity is due to a deterioated off-the-air recording a Beatle fan made of the broadcast; the master was destroyed in the Seventies)
what album or recording is this from? I've never heard it before-but its hilarious! It should be on Anthology or seomthing in my opinion! Go Rolf and Beatles!
Just read in a magazine today that Rolf was being recorded by George Martin (who started recording comedy acts before the Fab 4 came on the scene), and that in fact at the time Rolf was even more famous than the Beatles! They were a good backing band for Rolf here (what with those Beatllsh oooos), but what zany popsters they were !
I can't believe he didn't rhyme 'dingo' with 'Ringo'. Of all the countries in the world where this would be acceptable, Australia is it. Great jam, though, Rolf.
Holy shit - mid 70's - malibou classic - I'm five - eight-track fucking thing playing this song when I had no idea what a kangeroo was or where fucking australia was - but there it played - over and over. ~ml British Columbia Canada
@Gouryella91 Rolf did the wobble sound with a sheet of Masonite-like material, holding it loosely between the hands and allowing it to flop back and forth when shaken. Completely mechanical. I remember trying to imitate it as a boy with pieces of sheet metal, but it wasn't the same.
@OlDoinyo We still have the original 45 rpm of this. My dad always said that wobble sound was made with a piece of sheet metal, I don't think I've ever seen that sound made, though I've watched about every YT version of this song. In later versions the "abo" verse is removed.
@Rikkyhardo Thanx for that, I want to get my dad down here to watch this vid. I never realized that Rolf was ever anywhere near the Beatles if that's what this is, and it sure sounds like it.
A wobbleboard is not a modern electronic instrument. It's a large piece of hardboard held at the edges and moved inwards and outwards to create a noise.
Rolf Harris's first electronic instrument was a stylophone, 10 years later.
I don't even know how I unearthed this rare gem, did I search for 'Beatles Rolf' ???? Listening to that took me back to another era. What a brilliant song!!!
What a riot! I grew up knowing the more familiar version; I never would have imagined that Rolf and the Beatles would even have crossed paths. Clever and charming adaptation. I wonder how it came to be; there must be a story here.
wow what a gem...never heard of Rolf until now, man used a mix of instruments very unique..how cool would it have been ,having the Beatles sing backup for ya....
A classic! I've never heard this version before; obviously, everyone's having a good time. Must have been just after SHE LOVES YOU, because of all those 'whooooos.'
I absolutely LOVE The Beatles and this Fab Four version of Rolf's first hit has got 'pure gold' written all over it. I sincerely believe all Beatles fans worldwide will love this. Twenty-seven gold stars out of twelve, and thanks for posting.
What a phoney bunch of laughter that was!

Variously called "masonite" or more correctly "Burnieboard".
It was more like cardboard than plywood.
