This brings a tear to my eye. Since I was born in 1975, I remember this song fondly, and boogieing in and out the door (and for more!). Sesame Street has changed so much since these days, and is now tailored to a much younger audience. The CTW really needs to get back to its roots. Maybe do what Boomerang did and create a "classic" SS schedule (from what I hear the classic DVDs of SS are missing many of the segments many of us remember). Just an idea.
Bob (Bob McGrath) said in an interview that the target audience for Sesame Street was changed from ages 5-7 to a much younger group of 2-4. Which is probably why Elmo became so popular for younger children.
Being in my early 30s, I remember many great sketches, and songs that really are missed these days in SS. Like this one, I soooo remember dancing to the beats and laughing when the monster got smushed behind the "IN" door. Ahhh those were the days.
Wow the youtube site has been EXTREMELY slow for the past 2 days; the site won't load at all. and then when it finally does(after about 1/2 an hour), some videos won't play; they just hang and won't load. some play right away, some won't(this vid is one that won't).
Oh my God! I was born in 1978 and as a little kid in the 80's this was still playing on sesame street and I used to run around the house singing in boogie in out the door! Thanks for posting you made this 30 year old happy!
I worked at a night club in West Hollywood and all night long I had to try to direct traffic in or out the right door much to the chagrin of drunk guests! Ahh the memories. There really were confused monsters being swept along with the tide of wasted dancing humanity. Fabulous.
I love this. I liked it when all the monsters crushed this monster on the outside of the out door. I like it when he sings in for more when the song and disco is over. Then he sings out the door so funny.
The skit before this appears to be "KING Minus". Everything he touches with his bare hands disappears in a cloud of smoke. Carelessly he wipes his own forehead at the end and just......disappears.
Nope. The voice of the monster is Jerry Nelson. The voice is like a less hip and more nerdy version of Floyd Pepper. Or like Sherlock Hemlock without saying "Egad!" Both played by Nelson.
I used to sing this and people would think I was crazy. What is that from1!?? I tell them Sesame Street and they would be all.. "you're nuts". I loved this song.
i used to feel sorry for him too! this one would bum me out when i was a kid. well, the disco monsters were probably all coked up...you know how self-involved party people are
I love that they incorperated the era in their sketches. You hardly see anything half this creative on ss anymore; that the adults can find humor in. It's a friggin tradegy.
But yeah. My sis and I were *petrafied* of this when we were little. Why? I have no idea. Maybe the disco.. or the extreme zoom ins [which I loveeeeee!]? Whatever the reason, I'm glad we were, cuz I wouldn't have remembered this at all, and it's brilliant!
Check the horned monster's dance when he comes "in" the first time. Rockin' it! I searched this one because I remembered it from my childhood. Yeah, and the song is actually good. Thanks!
Once the poor green monster kept getting hurt I found this hysterical!I see Fragle and a familiar blue monster with fangs and horns that's used in many songs.

Notice the slight mistakes in when the IN and OUT signs light with the music? LOL
I also remember this still being broadcast on Sesame Street in the 80s. This and the "I'm A Baby (Rock Me)" segments are my two all-time favourites
