@drogheda1942 you don't know who brian vera is!!! the guy to give andy lee his only loss, after which andy lee pummeled him to a pulp in the rematch. Andy will be champ, trust me.
@drogheda1942 what do you mean still went 10 rounds, vera has an iron chin. Kirkland could barely stop him and even at that the fight was stopped too early. Lee dropped vera 3 times in their two fights (the first being stopped prematurely), he knocked undefeated McEwan out, and is going to KO martin murray on st. patty's day. He has never been dropped and has an iron chin, he'd take chavez jr. easy.
@DanIrish409 dont know who brian is. first i live in ireland but am from USA. dont know how much you know about boxing, but watch andy when the time comes he has to fight a real talent and not the soft shite he has been fighting. i been involved in boxing for almost fifty years. retired now . worse fighters than Andy have fought for titles. check james heath, roger turner, cedric mingo and at lot of other slighty better than average boxers.
@drogheda1942 Brian Vera beat Sergio Mora who got a draw out of Shane Mosley. Lee is a talented Boxer. He has been fighting some bum's but if that is how you judge a fighter I doubt you know as much as you say. Andy Lee's talents are there to be seen no matter who he's fighting. He was without a promoter for years and was taking what ever fight he could get. When he signed with DiBella he got the McEwan (who was an undefeated prospect trained by Freddie Roach) fight.
@drogheda1942 Maybe he should of taken care of McEwan a lot easier than he did but he was down 2 points on 1 card and level the other 2 goin into the last round. He would of won the fight either way. It's obvious why he struggled in that fight. In the first round Lee rocked McEwan with a right hook and then was lookin for that punch the whole fight and in 6th or 7th round he turned it up. I would of liked to see him fight Quillin. That fight made sense for them both.
@nfpmg andy is going to fight march 10. he will be facing Alexis Comacho 17 wins 3 loses. alexis lost his last 2 fights against average fighters. his last fight was 2 years ago.
andy needs to face better fighters not a bunch of soft shite. the last time alexis fought he was KOed by a journeyman.
@drogheda1942 I know that. I was shocked when I saw that because he was meant to be part of the Madison Square Garden bill on Paddy's Day against Peter Quilin which would of been a great fight and a fight that made absolute sense for both fighter's. This fight against Camacho is a "keep warm" fight more than anything. Camacho, though, has 16 KO's in his 17 wins.
@drogheda1942 the fuck you talkin bout, he just came off of a beautiful flawless victory over bria vera in which he dominated every single round and dropped vera twice.
Tonight, 10/1/11, is the second time I've seen Lee fight and I'm impressed. Physically he doesn't look like he should be much of a fighter but he really is pretty damn good! Great timing and accuracy with both hands and really good angles and movement.. He stands so straight that you expect him to be knocked out at any second but he has the reflexes and ring generalship to avoid shots.
He's very, very skilled and I look forward to seeing more of him :)
Andy did well to rescue his last fight. He has an underated chin and definately has knockout power! That's the good news as his boxing skills are overated and seems to be overwhelmed by good persistent pressure. He pulled the last one out of the fire and showed the same problems as his previous fights.
I doubt if he can move to the next level, he is not ready for a world title and seems to be stagnating. I'm a fan but don't know.
@ghostpen88 i agree man im a huge fan of andy lee, but there is no way he can stand up to shots from a middleweight with a good punch. Mcewan is a pretty good boxer, and i do think he was being a little underrated going into the fight, but he doesn't have any power. He just managed to land combination after combination mostly on the inside. He looked amateurish at times loading up on right hooks and NEVER throwing his money straight left off the jab until the last round really.
@ghostpen88 I think maybe he should try a strength and conditioning coach to complement his training with steward. if he can just stop moving straight back and instead circle to opponents weak side he can avoid more punches. After what appears to be a downgrade from McEwan on his scheduled fight on may 18th out of some suburb outside of chicago, i hope he can challenge for a strap.
He's not ready for Martinez or someone at the top level. The question is will he ever be. He has power and a good jab and reach. He just seems to suceptible to getting roughed up. I hope that he will become a world champion but we need look at Irish boxers recent attempts. It's not going to be easy.
Him and Chavez should be a good match.

His fight with McEwan should be a good one, Lee's only defeat came to Bryan Vera whom McEwean has beat.
