@SENSEISHODANIROC I beg your pardon but I find it extremely hard to believe that this old man would be doing much damage in the streets today.
This with all due respect to the man. But nature can not be fooled or worked around. When you're old, you can teach, but not fight. Even if we would like it to be otherwise.
If we don't accept this, we start making claims that can not be fulfilled, and it's like fake currency - devalues the real thing
@Niceland I would call him an old grandmaster. Maybe a wise grandmaster. But not supreme. It's too arrogant of a word. Just like ultimate grandmaster would be over kill of a statement. Just call him by his appropriate title, if it's true, grandmaster. No one is supreme, no one is unbeatable.
I saw GM Cacoy demo in California in the 90s, and he was impressive.

IS ANY 1 SEEING THE TECHNIQUES THE OLD MAN IS USING? ITS OBVIOUS HE DOES NOT HAVE THE POWER HE HAD WHEN HE WAS YOUNG. I BELIEVE THE POINT OF THE VIDEOS WAS TO DEMONSTRATE THE METHODS THE OLD MAN WAS USING TO EASILY OVER POWER THE BOY "OF COURSE HE WAS NOT ACTUALLY OVER POWERING HIM, IT WAS A DEMONSTRATION". IF ANY 1 KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT MARTIAL ART, YOU SHOULD BE BALE TO APPRECIATE THE TECHNIQUES THE OLD MAN WAS DEMONSTRATING.
I think some of the people here need to remember that those "sticks" can be replaced with a machete. You also need to pay attention to the way he is manipulating the wrist/elbow and bridging under the chin/nose. The biggest and baddest of you would go wherever the little old man wanted if force was applied in these ways. Thats not to see you still wouldnt kick the poor guys arse in a "real" fight, but i bet he keeps a blade on him.
its a demo...that show many layers of decades of practice and hardwork..and ithe student is resisting; someone that watches videos instead of practicing wouldnt know the difference because its an energy thing.
@TheOriginalEntz. Wow. If the Older Master applied just a little force - since this is leverage - the student would be in debilitating pain. Sort of like Mata Leo (Rear Naked Choke) it doesn't require a lot of strength to incapacitate the opponent.
I'd like to see you go full force against the old man, and he will go full force against you. This is what actual professional Spec Ops use. The old man will cut you to shreds.
I hate this idea that Chuck Norris has super-human powers. He is an actor, not a god, people. If he really is special, I dare him to magically appear in my house right now, sneak up behind me, and slam my face into my own keyboarbingpofdnbdonph
STudent makes no effort to resist attacks. He just stands there to be pushed around. What's the point of going to sensei's like this ? They just want a punching bag. Look he is laughing at the student as he hits him wtf.
@Niceland well I do, I was involved since I was 3 and I'm almost 30. this is much like the Tae Kwan Do performances. The student IS being pushed around, and the attack is made very lightly before the defense. This "old man" wouldn't be doing much of anything on the street, nor would he be "given' the opportunity to do what he did on this video. Much respect to him, but the video's just not what you're leading people to believe it is. And the person's right, this is an EXERCISE not a fight
@0ptimyze aha... there you go . it s an exercise of a 90 year old man... sparrings looks different... and you can thrust me whe i say to you .. he faught in streetfightes he was als fighting in world war II ... and you wiill not believe how much force this old man has in his left hand ..
.but anyway.. go for it.. i was there for a month training every day.. my escrima is also totally different than that .. but this is high end escrima , but its o.k theres many people not able to see what he is doing .. funfortunately you also dont seethe power this man had when he was younger and still has... although your in martial arts vor about 25 years now? jesus what did you do .. so what do i want people to believe ?? i am not a cacoy doce pares member.. i love escrima thats all ;)
@0ptimyze - Well, you don't want to embarrass the old fart, by countering and whacking him REAL hard upside his head, otherwise he's going into convulsions, and he will lose students. Rule #1 - ALWAYS make the master look good.
@ultimatehammer ......holy shit i love those internet warriors... hahahahaah .. so last question . how old are you ?? .. i guess .. between 14 and 16 years .
@TheOriginalEntz That's not what's happening at all. If that student had made "more of an effort" to resist, he would have only gotten seriously hurt. And he knew it.
@TheOriginalEntz If you resist a leverage technique, you get your fingers, wrist, or arm broken. The point of going to a "guro" (not "sensei") like this is to see the absolute fluidity in every technique, as well as how little effort, that comes from decades of study and practice. Did you happen to see the student touch the master's hand to his forehead? Learn what that gesture means in the Philippines before mouthing off again.
@TheOriginalEntz I may not be in eskrima, but I do know the value of a being on the recieving end of a demonstration in fencing. To laugh and smile during a class yet command such respect and show such respect is truly rare in a coach/sensei/teacher/master. I'd love to train under him if I were to take up this art.
@TheOriginalEntz when the student fails to block/counter the attack, he's supposed to show what would happen as it would be hard to resist at a focused speed
@TheOriginalEntz What's the point of attending any school then? So you can do whatever you want, disrupt the class and the lesson, resist the teacher? That's essentially what you are suggesting right?
The poster is absolutely right. You know absolutely nothing about what you are watching, let alone Filipino martial arts or any martial arts in general.
These punk idiots disrespecting the old guy need their ass kicked. The guy looks late seventy's or eighty. And still able to kick ass. I think that is cool. Even though I am sure he is not as bad ass as he once was. Who is??? But still I hope I can kick ass at 80!!! Respect the old. Remember you will be old some day.
@klink708@klink708 its a legend .. thx klink for your words.. i never ever met a more impressive guy.. and i have seen lots of teacher in the last 10 years since im doing the escrima :)
My foundation is the streetfighting art of Kung Fu San Soo. I also studied single long stick, double sticks and hand to hand in Pangamote style. Respect comes from being blessed with the stick. Many blessings have given me great respect. May those blessings also be given to those who with limited understanding and doubt so that they may also learn respect.
@TapouTPunk17 in these days when he was in our age.. he had a machete in his hands.. unfortunately.. you dont have any clue what you are saying us... sorry.. and more than that mostly of the stickfighting techniques are useful for no unarmed fighting.. but hey you are 17 or what ??? .. yes in that age i also had no clue .. hahahaha
Tapou, I've been in plenty of "Real fights, real street fights" when I was young I could or protect myself.. Then I toke up Martial arts, including weapons Use, as a Disabled person I will say this, no one mess's with me now, and if they do Street fighting or not, my skills and knowledge of there standared uses of movement allow me to knock them down quickly or restrain them without getting injured most of the time, I've had knives, guns pulled out on me.
Its like Yoda beating the crap out of someone, then walking off with his cane. very classy. its great to see an old master, its inspirational to me, thats how i want to be when i'm old and wise.
Hello adavidbujanda. I remember a little old man named Master Marshal Ho and his cane he called his magic walking stick. Two young persons, attacked him in Santa Monica. After he was done with teaching them about how a trained cane works, they left him alone and ran off. Adavidbujanda, Your a punk! I am much younger than Grand Master Cacoy Canete, I am only 60. Come find me and I will work on that left hook for you. Learn respect.
@sansoodude I think you owe adavidbujanda an apology. he was not the one being the punk or not showing respect. If you look back...I thought his comments were respectable. ToeJam498 is the one you want to slash out at.
why do they need to use the sticks as they were so close, they better play the music and start to dance...hugging and kissing are much more acceptable on that position...
Si Emiliano Zapata Lang ang Legend sa Pilipinas pang Exhibition Exhibition lang kayo.. Wala kayong Sinalihang competition kung meron man eh kayo kayo lang un..
my style is villabrille buti like this oldman.his age disappears when he does what he loves. truly a man to learn from in more ways then one....respect to all masters/founders.
haha ok ill give you a list , coz i literally forget ,coz there are too many of them winning over chinese wushu guys in MMA singapore and in the phils. The reason i put only 1 coz, that was the best fightcard of the evening, best fighter vs best fighter. And the best part is that the filipino won that fight . See you
best fighters i notice comes from indonesia, phils etc , basically South east asia. Even in MMA i notice the phils beat ALOT of top china chinese fighters. Now i know why haha
@zhongxin1967 there are a few currently now in singapore, and a MMA torunament called martial combat, search it on the bar. And alot chinese china fighters get beat by locals and phils there, pretty good. But also most of the time are the brazilians/blacks that win over the chinese. see you
@zhongxin1967 but this guys called " eduard folayang" from the phils beat one of the best chinese fighter from china ,art of war(AOW) called" Bao she". SO yea phils are very good at fighting.
@MechPhantom You said "phils" have beaten "alot" of top chinese fighters. That's only one phil beating one chinese fighter. Can you give more examples?

guys i don't know much about this very art, but maybe one of you can help me out. i once read, that the sticks symblloize machetes. but this would mean that the grandmaster would cut himself all across the belly in the disarm in 1:10 for example, wouldn't it? maybe someone would liek to explain to me. I'm not being disrespectful, just asking.
@breedingpitmetal yeah i was wondering that too so i asked my master and he said eskrima is originally a style for machetes but cacoy, for lack of a better word i'll say re-invented the style where it focuses more on the weapon being a stick and not something sharp. if you check his moves he uses the stick as an instrument of leverage a lot of the times. you can still use this art for handling machetes but you would have to make adjustments of course.
@Mrvicstr if I may...Escrima/Kali/Arnis were originally developed for use with a variety of swords and knives..not just machetes. When the phillipines were conquered by the Spanish the filipinos were prohibited from practicing their martial arts. To continue training "in secret" they started using the sinawali (rattan) sticks and hiding their martial arts in dances....referred to as carrenza...not sure about spelling. Sifu Canete took his additional martial arts training and
@breedingpitmetal you may want to read my answer posted later. When the filipinos were conquered by the spaniards they were banned from training their martial arts. So they trained in "secret" by using rattan sticks to represent their swords..and hiding their practice in "dances"...referred to as carenza...spelling?. HOwever..Master Canete in doing his moves does so because he is fighting a stick. If it were a sword....you would see a change in his technique.
This is where Bruce Lee learn the Arnis stick fighting from Inosanto. He is also from the Philippines. Cacoy is one of the original of the Arnis stick fighter in the Philippines. The best and always be!! Grandmaster Cacoy we salute you!!
Haha, the grandmaster has a quite a sense of humor! Not only does he teach and display his masterful skill in the martial arts, but he also displays his masterful skill in trolling! I love his laugh when he's just overkilling that student lol.
if chuck norris was that guy he would die how let me tell you. chuck norris is the guy holding the sticks he would touch the guy whos trying to block the sticks would be touched then hed turn into dust
The expression on that guy's face is priceless; it's got that vacant look as if he doesn't even know what's going on and is able to beat the crap out of people using instinct alone.
@GospelClone - that is exactly the result you have to strive to achieve. People want to do techniques against people only - "resisting opponent". This is good to do but you also have to do repetition training of your forms to make them instinct. It's not hard to achieve. Forms were developed for this purpose. Repeat Forms and Applications to make your art a reflex - Mushin. This applies to all arts.
Say what you want, but the man has pretty quick hands for his age...Respect!

I admire his age and skill. My next comment has nothing to do with that.
HOWEVER, anyone who says that they never lost a fight, is lying. Thats a pure and simple fact.
That this man is still able to do such a demonstration is more than admirable, people could only wish to be that skillful at that age.
Supreme is a definition meaning highest in rank or authority, so IF he is the highest rank then I dont agree with @KungFuKid1015

@sansoodude thx much for that posting sir ;)

@sansoodude I think you owe adavidbujanda an apology. he was not the one being the punk or not showing respect. If you look back...I thought his comments were respectable. ToeJam498 is the one you want to slash out at.

why do they need to use the sticks as they were so close, they better play the music and start to dance...hugging and kissing are much more acceptable on that position...

haha ok ill give you a list , coz i literally forget ,coz there are too many of them winning over chinese wushu guys in MMA singapore and in the phils.

MechPhantom 5 months ago
@MechPhantom Which phils have beaten alot of "top china chinese fighters"?
zhongxin1967 5 months ago
@zhongxin1967 there are a few currently now in singapore, and a MMA torunament called martial combat, search it on the bar. And alot chinese china fighters get beat by locals and phils there, pretty good. But also most of the time are the brazilians/blacks that win over the chinese. see you
MechPhantom 5 months ago
@zhongxin1967 but this guys called " eduard folayang" from the phils beat one of the best chinese fighter from china ,art of war(AOW) called" Bao she". SO yea phils are very good at fighting.
MechPhantom 5 months ago
@MechPhantom You said "phils" have beaten "alot" of top chinese fighters. That's only one phil beating one chinese fighter. Can you give more examples?

guys i don't know much about this very art, but maybe one of you can help me out. i once read, that the sticks symblloize machetes. but this would mean that the grandmaster would cut himself all across the belly in the disarm in 1:10 for example, wouldn't it? maybe someone would liek to explain to me. I'm not being disrespectful, just asking.
breedingpitmetal 5 months ago
@breedingpitmetal yeah i was wondering that too so i asked my master and he said eskrima is originally a style for machetes but cacoy, for lack of a better word i'll say re-invented the style where it focuses more on the weapon being a stick and not something sharp. if you check his moves he uses the stick as an instrument of leverage a lot of the times. you can still use this art for handling machetes but you would have to make adjustments of course.
Mrvicstr 5 months ago
@Mrvicstr if I may...Escrima/Kali/Arnis were originally developed for use with a variety of swords and knives..not just machetes. When the phillipines were conquered by the Spanish the filipinos were prohibited from practicing their martial arts. To continue training "in secret" they started using the sinawali (rattan) sticks and hiding their martial arts in dances....referred to as carrenza...not sure about spelling. Sifu Canete took his additional martial arts training and
oogeyboogie 2 months ago
@oogeyboogie incorporated it .....calling it Escrido.
oogeyboogie 2 months ago
@breedingpitmetal you may want to read my answer posted later. When the filipinos were conquered by the spaniards they were banned from training their martial arts. So they trained in "secret" by using rattan sticks to represent their swords..and hiding their practice in "dances"...referred to as carenza...spelling?. HOwever..Master Canete in doing his moves does so because he is fighting a stick. If it were a sword....you would see a change in his technique.

The expression on that guy's face is priceless; it's got that vacant look as if he doesn't even know what's going on and is able to beat the crap out of people using instinct alone.
GospelClone 7 months ago
@GospelClone - that is exactly the result you have to strive to achieve. People want to do techniques against people only - "resisting opponent". This is good to do but you also have to do repetition training of your forms to make them instinct. It's not hard to achieve. Forms were developed for this purpose. Repeat Forms and Applications to make your art a reflex - Mushin. This applies to all arts.
