It is actually Gibberish (except for the occasional English and Italian [2:19]word), I guess it allowed a much more flexible, comical curve for this act
The lightbulb man reminds me of one of the androids from "The City of Lost Children". The costumes in Varekai were designed by Eiko Ishioka who won the 1992 Oscar for Best Costume Design for "Bram Stoker's Dracula".
I recognise a few words here and there .. either it is coincidence, or I hear some croatian/macedonian/serbian in there. (The three of them are very similar.) Especially during the handbalancing scene - the word 'slatko' is spoken emphatically throughout the song and translates to 'sweet'.
I don't think so...I thought it was just gibberish, but seriously don't trust me. I don't know any other languages, so I can't tell!! Perhaps you could look it up, unless someone else knows.
@Icarusangel27 I think that some of the songs throughout the Cirque Du Soleil songs might be in other languages (Because some can be dubbed to English) but none of the things said in acts like this are real, they just try to think of things to say that give the audience an idea of what's going on.
@Icarusangel27 Yea, cirque has their own language that they use in their music, a mix of languages. It's all about the emotion and feeling then meaning.
@SolitudeVolante i read somewhere that they created their oen language as a mixture of a few different ones like french etc. while this is probably just random gibberish.
@SolitudeVolante Actually it's the Cirque's own language they have invented. Only actors and crique-crew/staff and even the singers who are hired know the language. It's kinda used to keep the story magical and separate from the audience's world. Besides, in acting, the BEST actors can act in a completely unfamiliar language to the audience and the audience should still be able to understand what's going on. If they DO add english, it's to kinda make a connection to the audience.
@SolitudeVolante It's Cirque du Soleil's own language they created. The audience is not intended to understand it unless the show wants the audience to understand in which case they would have English, French, or other commonly known languages spoken during key parts of the show. They would use phrases like, "Avec moi, si vous plais" or English like this part with the clowns where the Skywatcher says, "Say you're sorry" to the lighbulb guy! XD LOL I love that part! It always makes me laugh!
@SolitudeVolante it's made up language they call "cirqish"... but they also tend to use words from other languages like spanish, english, french, italian and so on.. :D
This is my favorite comedy bit in this show, and Varekai is my favorite Cirque Du Soleil show (and John Gilkey is absolutely hilarious)! Thanks for uploading this! :)

Pigsfly23 3 years ago 6
It's actually a language the Cirque made up themselves. It's a mixture of English, French, a few African languages, and gibberish all in the mix.
showdown456 3 years ago 7
Thats clever...in a way. I'm glad I enjoyed it more when it wasn't something I could understand when they spoke-for some strange reason.
ForestHuntress 3 years ago 3
Cirque didn't make it up! Clown is hundreds of years old. It was so that touring was made easier without a language barrier.

It's gibberish. Sometimes they do take bits and pieces from real language (gypsy words, French, Spanish, English), but mostly it's gibberish.
