  • great...the hapi goes along very well with the funk bass line

    good job

  • I've really enjoyed all your playing, man. You're really good at this. I think I'd like to learn to play a Hang drum. How long might it take an average person who knows piano, a little flute and a little Djembe druming to learn to play this instrument? Keep up the good work!

  • @VHeup Thanks, glad you enjoy the music! I've played a number of instruments throughout the years, and these are the easiest instruments to learn ever. And if you already play a little Djembe and can keep a beat, you're already there :)

  • it's more like a percussion than a drum, right?

  • cool.. odd instrument but sounds good

  • really, really nice! Is that bassline a loop on computer?from where did you get the bassline? im just searching for basslines like this, making my funk...

    keep beeing funkyyyyyyyyyy...........

  • @Vertikalzander0MUES Thanks for the comment. I used an older program called Steinberg Virtual Bassist for this one.

  • percussion is infinite, math is just boring

  • sounds great john, as all your videos do.....how do you do the dampening of the notes and drum body????....aloha, forest

  • dudes thats koooooooool

  • @royalboy108 Thanks!

  • man i just killed the drums to this i love playing along with it!

  • @chriselias69 Cool, glad you like jamming with it !

  • that is some odd music :P but i like it. you're good at that. how long have you been doing it?

  • Wow.. you're fantastic... What's the cost of the hang?

  • @7SearchlightSoul7 And your a dick...

  • @7SearchlightSoul7

These drums DO sound like this raw.

  • @Phobia017 Yes.

  • I love it. This combination of instruments seems like it could be a genre in and of itself.

  • Great Jam !!

  • Excellent..great Jam

  • can I buy it in Slovenia?

  • Weird instrument, at times it sounds like a bass slapping :P

  • @DeusExMachina1111 Well there is a slap bass backing track.

  • @DeusExMachina1111

    You win 50 Internets!

  • can't you make one of those out of propane tank?

  • This species of drum seem to be very adaptable.

  • will the sound change if the hole under this Hapi-drum has a long trumpet or something?

  • sweet number. another perfect example of instruments i'd buy if i had a million dollars...

  • @cobratmusic these are quite cheap. a lot cheaper than the hang

  • sounds very nice realy :)

  • That was awesome; I've never seen this kind of drum before. It does sound like a harp, with a touch of marimba. The piece was beautiful. Now I think I'm going to subscribe.

  • You really hear the timbre as non-metallic?

  • Kind of a combination. I'm not a percussionist, though. It has a rather bell-like sound. Maybe if you mashed up a steel drum with a marimba. I just really like the sound ,mostly.

  • ke kekka....

  • subscribed

  • beautifull *****

  • great!

  • really beautiful!

like the way he plays it and the funky bass on background :D

  • nice sounding thing !

  • This is a very cool drum. I have never seen one like this before. Just kinda like the hang, it sounds like a harp to me. Beautiful!

  • John....GET THEE UP HERE TO ALASKA! there is nothing you do that does not sound just awesome! I think Blues Central would love to have you up here!

  • i want one..where and how much!!??!!!

  • hapitones (dot) com - there's a link on the right in the video description

  • @oddmusic can i buy it in Slovenia

  • Great music man keep it up listening to your video's ^^

  • great sound!!!

  • alguien sabe ke es esa cosa?

  • WTF?? y eso existe??? O_O

  • i think i may get one of these since i'll be learning to play bass as well and i dont like the sound of a traditional drum set. too clangy!

  • Drumset's are beatiful instruments!

  • all matter of opinion, not everyone is gonna like the traditional drum sets, go for what makes you hapi, pun intended!

  • 1A !!!!!

    thank you

    greetings hangharry

  • I like this and the hang drum. But the principle is the steel drum. I'm guessing they came about because they couldn't afford drums from a music shop and made their own from junk

  • i love your music. so talented. so a hapi drum is the better way to go if you are poor and live in america?? i sooooo want one.

  • yeah, a nice 400 dollar drum, or a 2000 dollar one and a trip to switzerland to get it..........still seem that expensive?

  • kool i want one too!..... to that idiot on the other page ..."so i can play it and call aliens over"(sarcasticly :s) kool drum thou man thats some tight stuff

  • Wow, im 19 and this looks so cool, im saving up my crackchange to by one of these so i can play it with my friends!

  • Too pricey? How about buying a hang drum for $2,000

  • very nice sound, but way too pricey...

  • koool....

  • Y does every body include their age in their comments, no one cares.

  • Amazing! I'm only 14, but i'm working on saving up for one of these so that i can work on making tunes to match my churches songs!

  • i hate to burst your bubble, but...there is no god :D

  • fucking athiest. nothing happens when you die.

  • lol if u die ure dead :P

  • eh... how do you know?

have you died and come back?

No one knows what happens when you die that's why people believe in god or allah or reincarnation just so they don't have to be scared for the unknown. like kids have a night light in the dark :D

  • did u invent that

  • This is fucking brilliant! love the sound that drum makes.

  • thanks!

  • about 380$

  • how mucch is this instrument??? hernan

  • sounds great. i was wondering what you enjoy playing more the hang or hapi drum.

  • am i hearing bass guitar?

  • yes.

  • it sounds like you are playing multiple instruments with that hapi drum. wow, i really want one now

  • Yea I realized that right after I posted the comments. It was too late for me to take back my comments.

  • thanks very much.... come on down :)

  • it is called a Hapi Drum

  • What is this instrument? Did you make it yourself? is it known?

    Ilove it!

  • Thanks! It's only been around for a few months, it's called a Hapi Drum, a "steel tongue-drum", but not like a steel drum :)

  • very cool sound with the bass! who'd have thought? great job.

Greetings from the HAPI Belgium dude!

  • finally!! the audio busted on my computer.. this isnt the same without sound lol. sounds awesome as always!

  • Cool sounding song, that is good music to listen towhile eating cake.

  • lmao @ that spay74 =]

  • Excellent! Your music keeps getting better and better! Keep up the great work.

    Mike Gallichio

  • Thanks Mike! :)

  • very nice i love'it xD

  • Lovely.

  • Nice demo. Scene changes throughout the performance suggests editing the composition. nonetheless, it was a nice presentation.

  • Thanks! The audio recording and video of the wide shot were all done live in one take. Since I was just one person with one video camera, the close up shots were taken after I recorded the audio so people could better see what I was playing in some spots. So those and some of the video cuts are really just there to keep make it not look too boring with me sitting there in one shot :)

  • Very nice =D

Awesome music, as all of your songs!

I am going to buy my own Hapi quite soon (I guess xD) and I'm very happy that everyone says that it's easy to play.

Despite I'm still a bit concerned about the "easyness" :P

Would you please tell me how you get along with your Hapi and how you learned to play it?

    Would be very nice.

  • The instruments are tuned so that it is not possible to hit a note that is out of tune with itself.

  • Thanks for the comment! They truly are super easy to play. There are different techniques you'll learn as time goes, but the basic play is quite easy, and everything else if just a variation of that. I also play the Hang and had one long before the Hapi, but that also only took a few minutes to figure out. If you can tao your fingers on a table, you can play the Hapi. They way you tap it will make a difference, but it is an easy skill to learn.

  • Keep up the great vibe! Your music is truly inspired.

  • Wow, I've never seen one of these until now! How cool, must take ages to learn how to play it without bashing all the notes at once! What an Angelic sound.

  • Thank you, actually they are super easy to play!

  • Like the Fat Funky Bass......... *****

  • the igil sounds better :P

  • Wow! incredible skill on such a small instrument im impressed

  • thanks!

  • I'M HAPI!!!!!!!

  • That bass line was pretty awesome too :) Keep up the amazing work.

  • Very cool.

    HAPI-Planet :]

  • eeeek! HAPI's are invading the planet! :)

  • It sounds really wonderful.

I think I could listen to this for hours.

    -A-W-E-S-O-M-E-

    Alexander.

  • thanks! You do need to take a 15 minute break every 4 hours though, it's the law :)

  • AWESOME!

    I love your videos!

  • thank you!

  • Amazing, great !

  • Exquisite, as always. And, btw, I'm really enjoying your preflight CD. :)

  • thank you! :)

  • Not happy with the price? to me it's well worth every penny I paid, you'll not find a better sounding steel tongue drum anywhere. I envy the Hang owners, if you can't buy a Hang, I wouldn't even consider anything but this the HAPI. I own the E major, & Sometimes I play it for an hour at a time, it's addictive. My recommendation, if you want one start saving it's so worth it! Everyone who hears it is amazed. I play with one hand, or both. It's amazing. Get HAPI! I did!

  • Excellent work of music as always.

  • John I love this, I am learning more, but haven't tried my Q with it yet. Thanks! I love my HAPI the neighbors all ask about it.

  • this is awesome! i love your videos...they always deserve a 5 star rate. my question is what is your drum made out of? great videos keep them coming!

  • thanks very much! The raw material is composed mainly of recycled steel.

  • gah i want one so bad but im working on getting some other stuff first

  • hypnotic. love it.

  • hey jon,

its great music u creating there all the way. is there anyway i can get my hands on a hapi? im from malaysia, do they sell it outside the USA.? if so how much?

  • Yes they (we) do. Check out HapiTones (dot) com for info on price and international shipping.

  • Nice tune! :D I love your vids

  • Man, I love all your videos. I'm glad I subscribed to you.

I wish I could find a musician like you around here. Your style is the epitome of the kind of way I'd like to experiment in different sounds.

  • Thanks very much!

  • Hmm....nicely done, but this guy can make a meadow muffin sound good;-)

  • Interesting combo.

  • Man those things are cool but pricey.

  • this is a beautiful sounding drum, but I agree with hydrohyde, $350 bucks for basically a converted 3lb propane tank is a little pricey

  • Compared to the cost of a hang drum, it's a steal.

  • The makers have actually put a lot into developing it to make it sound and play so nice, but that is mostly under the covers, though everyone has their price point... there's currently a 2 month waiting list that's getting even longer for folks who've ordered one :) thanks for the comment too, I appreciate it.

  • obviously the business that produces these drums makes a superior product. The intonation seems perfect. It's a musical instrument meant for somebody with talent and true musical interest. I meant no disrespect toward the HAPI drum manufacturer. I would love to own one myself

  • Hey Boondockflyfish (love the name!) no disrespect taken at all with your previous comment. I am involved with the Hapi gang by the way, but not from a design or manufacturing standpoint.

  • I think the Hapi Drum is very reasonable. I actually like it better than the hang drum I once owned and at the time the hang costed me over $2,000.00. Hapi is smaller and easier to play. Hapi price is Awesome and sounds GREAT! Only $350.00. I have one and I have a 2nd one on order. I am very Hapi : )
