I've really enjoyed all your playing, man. You're really good at this. I think I'd like to learn to play a Hang drum. How long might it take an average person who knows piano, a little flute and a little Djembe druming to learn to play this instrument? Keep up the good work!
@VHeup Thanks, glad you enjoy the music! I've played a number of instruments throughout the years, and these are the easiest instruments to learn ever. And if you already play a little Djembe and can keep a beat, you're already there :)
really, really nice! Is that bassline a loop on computer?from where did you get the bassline? im just searching for basslines like this, making my funk...
That was awesome; I've never seen this kind of drum before. It does sound like a harp, with a touch of marimba. The piece was beautiful. Now I think I'm going to subscribe.
Kind of a combination. I'm not a percussionist, though. It has a rather bell-like sound. Maybe if you mashed up a steel drum with a marimba. I just really like the sound ,mostly.
@BluezBro604 Don't be fooled...this drum sounds nothing like this raw - if you hook it up to the digital computer set-up he has then you can get this sound...I'm a guy and with technology they can make me sound exactly like Beyonce. Find some rawer footage of it's sound before you make your choice to buy or not buy if you know what I'm saying.
I like this and the hang drum. But the principle is the steel drum. I'm guessing they came about because they couldn't afford drums from a music shop and made their own from junk
kool i want one too!..... to that idiot on the other page ..."so i can play it and call aliens over"(sarcasticly :s) kool drum thou man thats some tight stuff
No one knows what happens when you die that's why people believe in god or allah or reincarnation just so they don't have to be scared for the unknown. like kids have a night light in the dark :D
Absolutely excellent...5 stars!! I've never seen nor even heard of a HAPI drum. It makes such fabulous sounds. My thanks to Twirretwarre also known as Roeleke for sharing this video with me.
Thanks! The audio recording and video of the wide shot were all done live in one take. Since I was just one person with one video camera, the close up shots were taken after I recorded the audio so people could better see what I was playing in some spots. So those and some of the video cuts are really just there to keep make it not look too boring with me sitting there in one shot :)
Thanks for the comment! They truly are super easy to play. There are different techniques you'll learn as time goes, but the basic play is quite easy, and everything else if just a variation of that. I also play the Hang and had one long before the Hapi, but that also only took a few minutes to figure out. If you can tao your fingers on a table, you can play the Hapi. They way you tap it will make a difference, but it is an easy skill to learn.
Wow, I've never seen one of these until now! How cool, must take ages to learn how to play it without bashing all the notes at once! What an Angelic sound.
Not happy with the price? to me it's well worth every penny I paid, you'll not find a better sounding steel tongue drum anywhere. I envy the Hang owners, if you can't buy a Hang, I wouldn't even consider anything but this the HAPI. I own the E major, & Sometimes I play it for an hour at a time, it's addictive. My recommendation, if you want one start saving it's so worth it! Everyone who hears it is amazed. I play with one hand, or both. It's amazing. Get HAPI! I did!
its great music u creating there all the way. is there anyway i can get my hands on a hapi? im from malaysia, do they sell it outside the USA.? if so how much?
The makers have actually put a lot into developing it to make it sound and play so nice, but that is mostly under the covers, though everyone has their price point... there's currently a 2 month waiting list that's getting even longer for folks who've ordered one :) thanks for the comment too, I appreciate it.
obviously the business that produces these drums makes a superior product. The intonation seems perfect. It's a musical instrument meant for somebody with talent and true musical interest. I meant no disrespect toward the HAPI drum manufacturer. I would love to own one myself
Hey Boondockflyfish (love the name!) no disrespect taken at all with your previous comment. I am involved with the Hapi gang by the way, but not from a design or manufacturing standpoint.
I think the Hapi Drum is very reasonable. I actually like it better than the hang drum I once owned and at the time the hang costed me over $2,000.00. Hapi is smaller and easier to play. Hapi price is Awesome and sounds GREAT! Only $350.00. I have one and I have a 2nd one on order. I am very Hapi : )
great...the hapi goes along very well with the funk bass line
