Travis, love the new stuff man. Motion sickness is my favorite track for sure. When can we expect a full length album or even a couple new songs? I'm getting pretty impatient =)
Hey great stuff, love everything i've heard so far, wanted to ask would it be alright i used your transcription and post a new link of one thats written in traditional style
Hey Travis, I just got asked to join the Rising Start endorsement through TRX, what type of TRX cymbals do you prefer? I use two crashes, a ride + bell, high hats, and a china!
@drummerbrian13 They are hi-hat clutches; They are used, mostly when doing a lot of double bass playing to automatically drop the hats together without having to loosen up the wingnut sort of thing and when you press down on the hi-hat pedal the hats should go back to being able to be manipulated with the hi-hat pedal again. I think. [:
@drummerboy7227 The 'alien' language is unique to Mr. Orbin's drum setup. It's just as easy to get used to as reading normal drum notation. The only difference being that the numbered notation allows for a much more detailed transcription, especially since Travis utilizes dual hi hats and such.
I think people really underestimate the force you put into each stroke, it is a million times harder to hit them with that kind of power and still maintain control.. I am playing harder every day and it keeps feeling better and better.
The videos that you have have posted have lead me to believe that you a generally down-to-earth and honest man. That said, I must confess that I am not a fan of Sky Eats Airplane. Though, being a drummer myself, I must also confess that I am in love with your refreshing drumming style. You are amazing man, truly. I love that you appreciate your fans and put things in the description that drum nerds love to know, such as the type of snare drum and notes. Keep on being a FUCKING inspiration...
so i bought a Black X head with a Renaissance Ambassador snare side for my OC x series 13 x 7 maple. I cant seem to tune it to sound very good at all.. any tips (Travis or youtubers)?
@hauntedzebra When I purchased a black x it seemed to be that you need to kinda work it in for a little while. For me after bangin' the head a few days it went from shitty to very nice.
you really have inspired me like no other drummer has. I practice like 3 hrs a day now since i found out about you. Its weird how must drummers make you feel like you suck or even like quitting. You're definitely different though, you inspire.
On that note! you should give me some webcam lessons since you're so far from Los Angeles., haha.
Sick pocket, I like the emphasis on backbeat in this track, the odd orbination makes the track have huge space!
What's your preference on snare head, suede or white? I heard some unreal snare tones on your videos from suede heads but this makes me second guess =)
@shaftninja hey Travis, hows it going? I have noticed in your more recent videos that your sticks appear to be a lighter color. Are you no longer utilizing the Zildjian Mike Mangini's? oh, and by the way, I set my kit up, just like yours (double hi hat and all) and it may stay that way, because it is a very comfortable set up...
yo travis... this might be a stupid question but, how did you get your floor tom and other tom to match the height of your snare? (did you raise the legs of your floor tom really high? or is the snare stand that you mounted your small tom on really short?)
Thank you kindly! My snare drum height isn't abnormally high. I mounted my rack tom off of a tom mount (plugged into a RIMS suspension mount, of course) ,which was connected to a clamp hooked to my left-side crash cymbal stand. The snare stand deadens the tom-tom's resonance so I don't use 'em in the studio anymore.
hey man what hi hats your usign they sound a lot like the old light paiste 202's but sound like that exactly I was going for if you list the whole cymbal setup that would be even more awesome , peace
Ambidextrous ways. I c wut u did thar.
