I think your reaction very much indicates why this whole EU project is doomed for nasty consequences if it keeps going down this road. People want to be independent self governing democracies.
Even if I wanted to believe him, I find it difficult to support him when he wanted to bring a turkey into a press conference [which was supposed to represent Turkey the nation - what an insult to another country]. Nor can I stomach his views when he only gives one side. Immigration was good for Ireland and immigration levels are still set by Ireland, not the EU.
Ireland doesn't set it its own levels of immigration, there is nothing Ireland can do to stop immigration from EU member states. If 30 million wanted to come tomorrow for any reason your parliament would be powerless to stop it. European law is superior over the member states law. At the moment you can control who come from outside the EU, but the EU wants to have a common immigration policy for the whole of it. The Lisbon treaty will lay the foundation for this.
When the Treaty of Amsterdam came into effect in 1999, Ireland opted out of the area known as the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice, which includes immigration.
We still have control over immigration and this will not change under the Lisbon Treaty.
However, if you are sure it will, please point out the clauses within the Lisbon Treaty to justify your claim.
Yes, immigration is good for Ireland now that you're in such a dire economic state, isn't it. Why not bring in the rest of Eastern Europe into Ireland so they can replace you in the labor force and eventually wipe you out as a people? The EU wants to implement a common immigration policy for all of the EU and want to move the decision-making on immigration from member states to the corridors of Brussels. And no, immigration levels are NOT set by Ireland, the door is ALWAYS open within the EU.

we just have to vote no to lisbon 2, but i really have a feeling that if it fails again we'll have to vote again.
this country is far to small for the amount of polish that came here and having hundreds of thousands of turks here in the future, i might aswell face life on the dole.
Look, the UK is an important and influential member of the EU. Your democratically elected parliament has an active role in implementing European directives that have benefited millions of British and Northern Irish citizens in terms of equality, workers rights, trade, etc. The UK Independence Party have approx. 14 MEPs representing British voters in the European Parliament. Under Lisbon these MEPs will have more power and their discussions will be in public so everyone can hear their views
I resent him, or Ukipmedia for that matter, getting involved in anything got to do with Ireland, because you only have English (I won't even say British) interests at heart.
And I thought that they day's of Ireland serving england were long over.
But that's not why I'm voting Yes.
I'm voting Yes because Lisbon is good for Ireland, and by keeping Multinationals (who would leave in a heartbeat if we were sidelined), it's good for Workers.
Most of Europe's citizens are watching, we have all been shut down from having a say or our votes been ignored. Put yourself in the shoes of The French and the Dutch who have already voted this document down but are going to be told they have to have it anyway. If your political class had its way you wouldn't even get a vote. You are in a unique position, thankfuly your constitution has saved you. You voted no once, but you didn't give the right answer. Surely alarm bells are ringing!
Let's not vote Yes. We voted No before and the mere fact that this decision was not respected (along with those of the French and the Dutch) is a very good reason to vote No again.
The institutions of the EU: Council of Europe, European Commission, Council of Ministers and European Parliament), issue directives to its member states and it's up to the national parliaments and courts of the member states to introduce the local laws if they wish. A national parliament could vote against introducing a new law and the EU has no power to do anything about it. The EU can't do anything without the agreement of the national parliaments and heads of state.
RUBBISH!!! Why do you think there is panic in London currently, EU Hedge fund directives The European Court is supreme over any member states court. We have many British Court decisions overturned by the European Court. Once something has become law in a member state country via a European directive, there is nothing an incoming democraticaly elected national parliament can do to overturn that law. That goes against the Core of Democracy! No government should be able to bind a future one.
we need more people like Nigel...I will be voting NO again...just like last time. What is he saying that is so contraversial? that we should have democratic debate in our democracy? Have we lost our minds? The fact we are even voting again speaks volumes that this has nothing to do with democracy. They want their european federal state and did not expect a tiny island of 4million people to throw a spanner in the works. Vote NO !!!
if we vote yes we will never again be able to say yes or no to more treaties.
if it is passed more and more immigrants will flood into our country and work for less than 2 euro per hour, if this happens no irish person will be able to work or live in their own country.
Any one considering voting yes, please do the research into the New World Order and you will see what the EU is really all about. No means No so why wont they accept that? Also if the outcome is different then I would suggest vote rigging has taken place. Be aware that there are computer programmes available now that can rig elections. Strange outcome in Japan recently?
IRELAND say no 2 Lisbon 2 .and the EU's "European Gendarmerie Force" !
"The creation of a European para-military force, the EDF, adds to the growing list of bodies, agencies and forces spawned by the EU over which there is scant accountability, scrutiny, transparency or openness. Para-military police are by their very name and nature trained to use force beyond that normally available to police forces and require greater not less oversight. «
"Studies by the Institute for Public Policy Research, published on the BBC News website, indicate that at least 5.5m British-born people live abroad. Taken together, they represent approximately 10% of British citizens." So by your reasoning these people can be lumped to together into a group who simply moved because the grass was greener elsewhere and because of corruption and poverty in the UK? We all share the same right to live and work in any member state of the EU if we wish.
Sorry folks... its the grammatically-challenged, taser-mad, donut-eatin', police-state lovin' stalker who followed me here. Normal service will be resumed shortly.
and correct spelling would be it's not its you dumb ass. If you are going to be the spelling police learn to spell and use words correctly lol what an idiot
I find the underlying racism that I sense in Nigel Farage's comments on the immigration of workers from other EU states very disturbing. Our economy has benefited from the dedication and hard work of thousands of EU citizens who have traveled to Ireland to take up employment. Just as many thousands of Irish have traveled to work in the UK and elsewhere. I suppose Nigel would also prefer if the presence of Irish workers in the UK was also "examined".
Where is the underlying racsim? When has he mentioned race? He believes in controlled migration/ a work permit system. On your logic are America and Australia racist for not allowing an open door to as many people from Britain and Ireland to go and work there? Are they racist for having a visa system?
Don't be daft. The EU has similar controls to the US and Australia when it comes to immigration from outside the 27 EU member states. What Nigel is proposing would be like the USA imposing restrictions on the number of Texans who can work in California. He sounds racist because he seems to assume that an EU citizen from, say, Romania, or possibly, in future, Turkey, should have less rights than a EU citizen from the UK. His views contradict some of the fundamental aspirations of the EU.
The EU is not a state in its own right, although Lisbon would make it so. It wants to be but is not prepared to asked the people. Something like border contro, is a fundamental aspect of statehood, who is allowed to come and live in and work in a country should be left to national parliaments. The fact is they can no longer do that because European law is superior over national law. The political class have imposed this new European national identity, the people when asked always say no.
2. Border control, in terms of immigration from outside the EU, is with the national governments. The UK and Ireland will have special rights in this area.
3. The free movement of workers between member states of the EU is already in place and has nothing to do with Lisbon.
4. The EU does not introduce laws. That is now and will always be up to the national governments and courts.
5. There is no "political class" just politicians. It's all in your head.
1. Yes Lisbon does make it a state. If gives the EU full legal personality for the first time. Well states and countries have full legal personalities Allowing it to sign international treaties etc etc.
2. The EU is determined to have a common immigration policy for the whole of it. ie: Decides who comes to live in it
3. The EU decides who the new member states are, not the national parliaments.
4. The EU does not introduce laws??? German study found 83% of there new laws came from the EU.
Listen mate, all of our countries in Europe are separate, and different. There is no racism in border control, that is just the propaganda, to persuade against it.
The fact is you can't just let everybody move because the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, (that's basic philosophy), you just have to wipe out the corruption of ther poorer countries which is mostly caused by the elite of the west.
If I were an English citizen, I would hands down and forever more vote UKIP. They are one of the last remnants in all of Europe who stand for liberty, individual freedom and property rights, low taxes, (very) small centralised government and principles of free market enterprise. UKIP, keep doing what you're doing. You have my full support as an American!
I've noticed over in England and in Europe in general, that if your not of the mindset of desiring strong centralised governmental power, considered "progressive" (which to us Americans means far-left and Statist) then you are considered a neo-nazi and a fascist. I am a conservative through and through and here in America we clearly know the difference between democratic, liberty seeking people and those who want the government (i.e. the EU) to have unlimited power over people's lives.
Nigel Farange is right. If the Irish vote "No", all the threats and pressure are not really going to hurt anybody. But what there will be is a proper debate in several countries about the future, that is desperately needed. And what I am hoping we will have from it is a more respectful attitude from those unelected "empire builders" and "central planners" towards the individuals they claim to represent . They do not represent us, because we never voted. They should know this. Ireland show them!
How is UKIP fascist? His party campaigns for us to be given the choice. It is clear that the EU want Ireland to vote yes, but what kind of superstate would that make it?
I'm glad as hell Ireland left the United Kingdom all those years ago, because had they no our very own Gordon Brown would've forced the 'yes' on them no questions asked.
oh dear Ireland, aren't you wishing you listened to Nigel this time?

Surely alarm bells are ringing!
ukipmedia 2 years ago
Voting Yes is voting for you not to really have a right to vote, the stronger the EU becomes the weaker your own government is.
Ireland Voted No and the EU say that's not what we wanted to hear you must vote again while we send out campaigners, instead of accepting you view.
A yes is a vote of a dictatorship not a democracy

So why is Lisbon good for Ireland. How is it good for workers? Are you not just trotting out hollow yes-groupie catchphrases?

Nigel Farage talks about 'The peoples of Ireland' as if he cares about us.
The only thing Nigel Farage cares about is Britain, and Britain leaving the EU.
Ireland has always been an Ireland of the Welcomes, immigration has never been as issue as it has in Britain.
Ireland has also never had an internal terrorist attack from 2nd and 3rd generation citizens.
Let's vote Yes, keep little englanders out of Irish politics.

The EU can't do anything without the agreement of the national parliaments and heads of state.
robotchrist 2 years ago
No government should be able to bind a future one.
ukipmedia 2 years ago
And with the Lisbon treaty all EU laws will overrule all national laws, including the constitutions.

we need more people like Nigel...I will be voting NO again...just like last time. What is he saying that is so contraversial? that we should have democratic debate in our democracy? Have we lost our minds? The fact we are even voting again speaks volumes that this has nothing to do with democracy. They want their european federal state and did not expect a tiny island of 4million people to throw a spanner in the works. Vote NO !!!

Ireland, the ONLY country in europe that has a vote on this!
if u vote yes, u have voted to change your CONSTITUTION.
i think this is the REALLY FUNNY PART.
if u vote yes, you have voted TO (NEVER) VOTE AGAIN.
THINK OF ALL THE IRISH PPL THAT HAVE DIED FIGHTING FOR OUR COUNTRY.
Don't be a TRAITOR to our COUNTRY and
VOTE NO PLEASE.
THANK YOU IRELAND.
mtst71 2 years ago 2
exactly!!!!
if we vote yes we will never again be able to say yes or no to more treaties.
if it is passed more and more immigrants will flood into our country and work for less than 2 euro per hour, if this happens no irish person will be able to work or live in their own country.
vote no people for your own good
frolicwitme 2 years ago

I suppose Nigel would also prefer if the presence of Irish workers in the UK was also "examined".
robotchrist 2 years ago
Where is the underlying racsim? When has he mentioned race? He believes in controlled migration/ a work permit system. On your logic are America and Australia racist for not allowing an open door to as many people from Britain and Ireland to go and work there? Are they racist for having a visa system?
ukipmedia 2 years ago
Don't be daft. The EU has similar controls to the US and Australia when it comes to immigration from outside the 27 EU member states. What Nigel is proposing would be like the USA imposing restrictions on the number of Texans who can work in California. He sounds racist because he seems to assume that an EU citizen from, say, Romania, or possibly, in future, Turkey, should have less rights than a EU citizen from the UK. His views contradict some of the fundamental aspirations of the EU.
robotchrist 2 years ago
The EU is not a state in its own right, although Lisbon would make it so. It wants to be but is not prepared to asked the people. Something like border contro, is a fundamental aspect of statehood, who is allowed to come and live in and work in a country should be left to national parliaments. The fact is they can no longer do that because European law is superior over national law. The political class have imposed this new European national identity, the people when asked always say no.
ukipmedia 2 years ago
1. Lisbon does not make a state of the EU.
It's all in your head.
robotchrist 2 years ago

You have my full support as an American!
grayfiresoul 2 years ago 2
I've noticed over in England and in Europe in general, that if your not of the mindset of desiring strong centralised governmental power, considered "progressive" (which to us Americans means far-left and Statist) then you are considered a neo-nazi and a fascist. I am a conservative through and through and here in America we clearly know the difference between democratic, liberty seeking people and those who want the government (i.e. the EU) to have unlimited power over people's lives.
grayfiresoul 2 years ago 2
Nigel Farange is right. If the Irish vote "No", all the threats and pressure are not really going to hurt anybody. But what there will be is a proper debate in several countries about the future, that is desperately needed. And what I am hoping we will have from it is a more respectful attitude from those unelected "empire builders" and "central planners" towards the individuals they claim to represent . They do not represent us, because we never voted. They should know this. Ireland show them!
ernestmillward62 2 years ago 2
How is UKIP fascist? His party campaigns for us to be given the choice. It is clear that the EU want Ireland to vote yes, but what kind of superstate would that make it?
I'm glad as hell Ireland left the United Kingdom all those years ago, because had they no our very own Gordon Brown would've forced the 'yes' on them no questions asked.
Thankyou so much Ireland!
