  • Awesome! That lining up the faceplate with machined screws is a dandy job! And, hey, the T-Shirt and Tie combination is cool :D

    Cheers,

    Jake

  • I like your ingenuity .. suggestion, if you cut a dado slot in the top surface parallel to the sanding face you could make a fence to run in it to hold pices at specific angles to the sander. You could also put a dust extractor nozzle in the under centre section.

  • @GremlinWood Actually I did on mine. I also cut a dado perpendicular to the other in the center of the left side to use a jig for sanding round objects to a particular size. At the time this video was made I had to squeeze the entire tutorial into ten minutes. I learned that most people will not watch a two-part video.

  • @BradburyGuy Yes you are right about the video viewers, but remember, some of us do watch ALL of yours, so your loyal followers will watch :)) Maybe you could do a follow up video about the sanding table, I would like to see how it turned out :))

  • great video and idea :)

  • awesome method, think ill give it a whirl

  • WOW if I didn't know what you were doing I would have a hell of a time following along with this video, slow down man and explain your self for the people watching that need the details.

  • @TheDudeRulez09 I have discovered that making a two-part (20 min) video does not work. Even though that's often how much time I need to explain the process fully. People now have the attention span of a six year old. They will not watch the second half.

  • @BradburyGuy your probably right!!

  • A great space-saving feature of your lathe and a very good video to g with it.

How will you attach the abrasive discs? Are you using self-adhesive discs or, will you fix a self-adhesive velcro backing first, so that you can use velcro discs?

  • @OllyPJ Discs over nine inches come as self adhesive, however I did find a source on the web for a hook and Loop conversion kit for discs up to, and including twelve inches. The kit is about $40.00, kind of expensive.

  • The you, for teaching of these great Ideas!!! Have a great day!!! Are are a cool guy...

  • that is a great idea for sanding half rings on segmented turnings...thanks

  • Hey, that is a good one. Probably not a brand new idea but new to me, so cool. I've got a metal lathe, but the same principle applies, right?

  • @spilperson Well it's a new idea to me also I've never seen it before. It should work fine with a metal lathe.

  • Do you fancy dragging all your machines to Ireland and building me a few jigs...please? I'll provide food and a bed and I won't even charge you.

    Best Wishes, Brendan.

  • @baconsoda Ha Ha, I would love to visit Ireland, but not with a truck full of machinery. That free room and board sounds tempting though.

  • @baconsoda hey brendan when guy is finished your place he can drop down to me for a few weeks and build me a new work shop all the best rob

  • @robbiethewood No problem Robbie, Guy said something about not wanting to have to bring a truck-load of tools but that's a minor detail and I'm sure he'll sort it out easily. When he's done here I'll give you a shout and you can get a few spuds in.

    Best Wishes, Brendan.

  • Good idea.

  • Great idea, makes me think what else can we use our lathes for,- rock tumbler- ????

Thanks and have a great day.

    John

  • @woodturningjohn Hey John, great idea. You go for it I already have a rock tumbler. Thanks

  • Great video. I was thinking that you could make it adjustable vertically. The middle piece could go up or down. Just put some more dado's in the side pieces. You could sand bigger pieces then or smaller ones.

    What do you think?

    Leonard

  • @MrLeonard55 You are thinking just like i was. I thought of two ideas. Make it adjustable by using two pieces for each side. Cut two vertical slots in each side of the inside board and use knobs on the outside to tighten the adjustment. I also thought it would be nice to leave a void down the center for spindles to go through, then you could make a router jig for fluting spindles.

  • It 's like a ShopSmith but better.

  • @scoobydog411 Thanks for the complement Scooby.

  • Thats a good idea. Better than buying more big tools to sit in the way. thanks for showing

  • @scoobydog411 Yes, and I really like that I can remove it and store it under the lathe

  • LOL!! Nice looking flies:) another great video Guy.

    Carl

  • @haydenHD Glad you got a good laugh from my red-neck salesman. I tied my own flies an my tie.
