The Church plays this so much better. I've loved the Pumpkins since their first album, but they don't play this song anywhere nearly as well as the church does.
Smashing Pumpkins...I love doing that! But seriously, The Church were always way under-rated. If This was a SP original it would be one of their big hits.
lol...love how the Smashing Pumpkins do Reptile..and Church do Disarm...almost like a nod to each other...and "liddledriver" I think you are wrong about not only the Church but INXS...INXS started out originally in West Australia....perhaps you are thinking of Dragon or Split Enz .
Yeah, that's what I meant! It was, of course, a different version than the original in a way, as it was live, played years after 'Starfish'. Probably one of the best versions of it I've seen them play (I've seen them numerous times, I'm a huge, long-time fan)
I also like the Church's covers of 'Hounds Of Love'- that Kate Bush classic, & of 'I am a Rock' by Paul Simon.
@ozphoria .....jeez now i can understand why some people like shitty music...they dont know what they are fucking hearing. How anyone can think this is a cover of a NIN song is just fucking beyond me.
Saw the church last night at GAMH they played Disarm and it rocked! This is a pretty good version of reptile but the church still are grinding it out after 30 years!
very funny lol i sore The Church the over night and he sayed the Smashing Pumpkins played one of our songs so where going to play one of theres so the played disarm and they rocked at it !!!!!
Saw the Church last night...AMAZING. Not only did they do a searing version of this, they played a Smashing Pumpkins track (very well), after Steve K made cheeky quips about men in 'Frocks'
LOL doesnt Trent dislike Corgan? Trent smashes his pic in the Starfuckers video. LOL this isnt even a NIN cover its an old aussy song but if it was a NIN cover i would be surpirse 2 see Corgan cover it because of the whole starfuckers video.
Trent smashes himself as well in that vid the only people he disliked were britney spears and fred durst. He smashes marilyn manson, Michael Stipe, Gene Simmons, and Corgon. But if you see that interview it was mainly a shot at the britney spears and fred dursts of the world.
Before commenting on this not being a song by NIN, or how this doesn't sound like NIN's song Reptile ... please read the description that has always clearly stated:
The Smashing Pumpkins came on stage to in the encore to play a classic Australian song - Reptile - by The Church.
@ozphoria thanks. this just means thing youtubes indexing algorithm isnt working properly or the lack of tags screwed it up. its a youtube/google backend problem
This is AWESOME. I'm late to The Church but of course a genius like Billy decides to play this...wish I was there! And The Church is my new fav band since Clan of Xymox
nin ddnt cover this songg..its originally from the church well its not . nin song reptile is an original song that happens to be the same title and for all u guys saying NINs cover is much better. ur an idiot.
there is NO NIN cover of this song! just like NIN and Gwen Stefani/No Doubt both have a song called Underneath It All, this is just the same name for a totally different song...in both cases however, NIN is better than the other haha.
in 1820 a man named fredrick osloft one day he was working in his lab until a ghost came by and killed him the next morning fredrick was nowhere to be seen 100 years later two boys went in the lab as a dare the boys where never seen again where aparently murdered now that u have read this comment tonight when u go to sleep the two boys and fredrick will come and murder you but you can stop this by posting this comment on 5 other videos by midnight im sorry i relly hate these things :'(
smashing pumpkins blow, but even then they're smart enough to not cover NIN....get it through your thick fucking skulls people...this isnt an NIN cover.
no, you're right you fucking douchebag, they covered the vastly superior The Church, not worthless NIN led bytrendy faggott Trent Reznor. this is a great cover of one of the 10 best songs of all time. Fuck off shapank and fuck off NIN
How is anyone mistaking this for a NIN cover? Sure, they have the same title, but the songs are about polar opposite sounding. Props to the Pumpkins. Great cover.
i'm with tonycologne 100%. as much as i like smashing pumpkins, i'm not happy about this. and as much as i can appreciate NIN, there's no way he's talented enough to pull off a song like "reptile."
Wow, that was actually really good. I'm impressed. You can tell not many people in the audience knew the song, unfortunately. Hopefully this cover convinced some Pumpkins fans to pick up some of their albums (Heyday & Priest=Aura, are so amazing). The Church have to be one of the most criminally underrated or downright ignored rock bands, ever. Shame.
Killer version of one of the all time best song... love how the Pumpkins lead guitarist pays total tribute to Marty-Wilson Piper's little solo by taking his hand off the neck of the guitar like the original video. I really like the lead guitar at the end of the song, not original but great in my book! Good one.
They did this song justice... the original is still the best but this sounds cool :)
