I have a 1983 944 non-turbo sitting in my garage in need of plenty repairs. The only good thing is that it still ran but that was at least 2 years ago. It needs a lot, including sunroof and center console gauges to be installed.
Im looking at a '88 model, so far it looks in pretty good condition no rust or apparent engine problems, but i think if i ask about specific problem areas something might come up. What are the common problems that arise in the 944's that i should look for?
@YPUK0PALMY timing belt and balance belt, dont bother buying one without it changed, dont move until its changed unless the owner has a recipt from a month ago. dont buy a pos, pretty much all of them are rust free because they came galvanized from the factory. 88 is a good later year for the 944, get into the engine bay, get into everything, look everywhere, drive it, listen. You will feel if its a good buy or not
2.) that my friend is no turbo, even if you have installed a aftermarket 'turbo' into it, that does not make it a turbo. the 944 "turbo" is a model of the 944 and dropping a aftermarket turbo into it does not make it a "turbo" as putting a v6 in it would not make it a 911..
that aside i like what you did with the removing of the bumper pads, makes it look much sleeker.
hi - tail lights are covered with heat molded acrylic lenses, center piece is acrylic covered, laser cut alum LED lit. I still have some alum panels here.
i have a 1986 non turbo 944. i get somewhere around 25 mpg. and work can be expensive, depending on where you live it can be difficult to find someone with the skills and specific tools to work on it. but i love the car
@superspazz61 Well, they are Porsches so repairs aren't super cheap but they are pretty reasonable as far as that goes. I get about 30 mpg from mine. Thats a none turbo.
MINE looks the same but the inside is old and crapy because its never been changed since 82!
do u think its a good car? they say its the shitiest of the porsche but i like it more than the actual boxter. I also own a 1999 SLK 320 v6 but the i just love the way my porsche looks even tho its not very fast,,

miles were up there - it had a head crash. the 44S showed up on a trailer in pieces. we went to work. took 3 months to build it, going nuts. a lot of hours. sold it for just a few K over a typical 44S price. light build on v/good stock used engine, interior was redone, trans was good. new tube, brakes, suspension, mounts.
Ive never been in a car so nice. and the steering wheel is perfect for me. the only problem i have is that the shifter feels like slush. I there a way to fix that, if so how
there is a 60 horsepower gap between the 924S and the 944S.. the 944 has better handling, and the 944 Turbo is 27hp up on the 944S
My 944S is just 10hp shy of the 944 Turbo. I have had 5 angle valve job, port/polish, vented nose, authority chip.. pretty much all you can do since the stock exhaust is more than enough to handle all that intake tweaking

Lol. ^^
I never did like the bumper pads on them. I always liked the turbo front end much more than the 944 model.
SilentDiablo 2 years ago
@terenceil its a 944s has the body of a turbo
Cory00yeah 1 year ago
@Cory00yeah only the 944 s2 has the body of the turbo, the s had the old/normal front valence.

@superspazz61 It's a Porsche.. yes it is expensive to run and maintain... but that is why it is referred to as an ENTHUSIASTS car.

do these 944s have tilt steering wheel
Emejuobi 3 years ago
no. you have to get comfortable around the wheel. if everything is good (mounts, engine, clutch, gear linkage etc., they drive real nice.
SharkGTS 3 years ago
yes they do on the 85.5 and up models

This video is from Jaeger Engineerings website. They make cosmetic add-ons for 944's, 968's, and 928's. Good stuff.
