It's about desensitizing the future generations in order to make the police state more acceptable in the future. It's obvious when kids are getting patted down at TSA checkpoints in airports coupled with police presence at schools etc...

It makes a great deal of sense to collect data for studies as long as it remains anonymous. I didn't get a great sense of what they are doing with it from this news report, which is unsurprising to me. I do not like the idea of being able to access the information of students by name if that is indeed what is happening. I'll have to check better source that will provide a clearer picture of what they are actually doing. In clinical studies I've conducted, we assigned numbers to protect identity.
