  • check out the neighbour next door, maybe a bit early for him lol

  • YOOHOO

  • I'm taking a video.....OOHH

  • those things sound absolutely amazing. They have that unmistakable horn sound but somehow softer. Maybe a little like a bowed string instrument is mixed in? The perfect combo in my opinion.

  • ricola!!!!!!!!!!!

o.O thats what was in my head the whole time

  • :) how many meters long ?

  • Hahaa the guy who walks in and out of his door

  • i want one of those..... but where do i get one in AMERICA??????

  • Riiiiiiiicola!

  • I once saw a photo of Louis Armstrong playing one of these babies. He probably whaled on it!

  • riiicola

  • gut gemacht.. : )

  • why that length?

  • @quantazelle its the same as a French horn except stretched out. their actually quite light and they start at around $5,000 and 11.5 ft long

  • ganz geil^^

  • That's awesome, thanks for giving me the musical chills! And so gosh darn cute! -Alicia Rau

  • very funny english

  • Wuhu! I'm Suisse and of course I have one of this :P

  • soooo thats what they are called Alp Horns I thought it was a digeridoo haha XD

but how do those work? Do they have holes by the fingers to make different sounds?

  • @acidfriend47 No holes. Just natural harmonics made by buzzing lips faster and slower. That's why it sounds so pure.

  • @Shmior

hmmm It looks the same as the Didgeridoo, can you tell me the difference. because If i would do it on something hollow it will sound like a didgeridoo and nothing like that

  • @acidfriend47 Notice how the alp horn is narrow and long and the didgeridoo is wide and shorter. The large length/bore ratio allows many harmonics to be played on the alp horn. Didgeridoos play one or two harmonics and their sound is made by "bending" the lips. The alp horn is like an uncoiled natural horn.

  • @Shmior

So I could basically get the same sound if i make it long and the mouth piece small?

  • @acidfriend47 The horn also has to be conical, but yes.

  • Beautiful sound. I love how the neighbor lady steps out and looks at her watch. If you don't want to be awakened by alphorns don't live in Switzerland.

  • Horny old men

  • 1:28 the neighbor doesn't seem to appreciate to be wake up in the morning lol

  • RIIIIIIIIICOLAAAAAAAA

  • wer häts erfunde !?

  • i love the guy at the beginning. cracks me up

  • That's the original way to play Alphorn, but watch Eliana Burki - NDR video to find out how do we play Alphorn now :)

    Greetz from an Alphorn player

  • reminds me of my didgeridoo but of course its different, not as deep a sound. Still I like it a lot

  • i want one... but it would not fit in my room

  • I've seen collapsible carbon-fiber alphorns, they sound all right on YouTube, but I don't know how they sound live.

  • I think you have to be of European ancestry to enjoy this wonderful music.

  • well who isnt these days

  • Not really

  • Why did they make it so long?

  • The longer tube, the more notes you can play.

  • Technically, the number of overtones it can reach depends on the width to length ratio, as well as the bore of the pipe. If it was a straight tube, it would have far fewer notes, and would not be as warm-sounding as with the conical bore it does have. The only thing length directly affects is how low it plays.

  • I need one of those. I wonder how long I could survive in a ghetto wearing lederhosen and carrying that around.

  • LOL!!!!

  • lmfao

  • lol

  • @Makron5 : Too funny! :-)

  • @Makron5 LOOL i guess you would be dead within 5 minutes dude

  • Nice, reminds me of some of my own family in Germany.

  • what did he do with his stogey?

  • A shame that the lower cor has a "duck" noice

  • Uf Dä Bänklialp! Schön schön!

  • I loveeee German, Swiss and Austrian people. They're so nice. And what sweet old men.

I miss Germany and the Alps.
