  • @jayduh 10

I thought I was the only 1 who felt like dat

  • He knew what he was doing when he named this album Voodoo. If you really let yourself go in the music, it controls your every move and tugs at the very heart of you. It's unexplainable.

  • nice groove

  • Quest love. Is killing that pocket

  • : ( I Miss D'Angelo Fine Azz He Needs To Make A Come Back

  • In other words she broke him down.

  • you've gotta have so much rot and hurt and corruption in your soul to find it in your heart to vote any music down.

I pity the 3 out of the (over) hundred thousand that felt like sharing a lil love

  • I just cried

  • @ssugavery1 me too.

  • Welcome back D'Angelo. Can't wait for the new album.

  • these drums sound irritating

  • @Eliskoopa ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? Questlove killed that pocket...PERIOD!!!!!

  • The multitracking of his voice, especially at the end, is brilliant

  • I wonder if he used the pedals of a B3 hammond to get that deep bass sound.

  • What is this song about?

  • @tfelic3 its about the a relationship and the hardships of a breakup. He's saying he gave her his all, and she just broke up with him. theres a video where he talks about how he hated recording this song cuz it put him in the sad mood

  • @merfro101 Wow if this song put him in a sad mood, then it translated well, because the song has a dark, moody soulful feel to it. I wish he'd go back and come out with some more.

  • @tfelic3 he's talking about being emotionally hurt after a failed relationship with a woman he gave his heart to. he compares this feeling to having a "root" placed on him. a "root" (also know as a whammy, hex, mojo, etc) is often associated with a voodoo (voudoo) curse. its a fitting name for this song, considering the album is titled voodoo.

  • damn dangelo u should b on album 5 or 6!

  • This song didn't mean much to me until I really sat down and closed my eyes. He worked a root on my heart with this album. I've been a fan since age 3. (yes, I remember the first album)

  • Does this song make anyone else hold thier breath for the last minute?

  • So heartbreaking how much the homie D' is slept on. My favorite album of all time.

  • Nice

  • This album is like a treasure to me. I know some who did not like it but it is without a doubt my favorite soul/r&b album created while I have been on earth.

  • @lbgreat30 I feel the same way

  • Russell Elevado Production. No joke this is the best sounding record in my collection. This man has some very good ears and mad skills. D'Angelo is of course on his peak here.

  • Aaaaaarhhh Yeah. This is where it's at. The Root.

  • I hear you D, when there was so much love and now only pain...something tells me that she'll always be the root of my blues...

  • its a damn shame this dude had it all the look the talent and the swagger but he only did only 2 albums and you did not hear from him since more than anything he let the fans down. but u dont know whats going in a person head at times. but i will say he is ovverrated cause of his lack of work.

  • Greatest of all time (/ top 5)

  • this track touches me in ways few songs ever have. Really applicable to any form of heartache.

  • that sound like hendrix on guitar

  • Comment removed

  • @aaronamccoy That's Charlie Hunter on guitar man. What's sick about Hunter is that he plays guitar and bass....simultaneously. He's no Hendrix but sick as hell nonetheless. Check him out.

  • @Illadelphism no doubt. i use to see charlie back in the mid 90s at the elbo room in san francisco back when they were only chargin 5 bucks to see him, he's sicc wit it.

  • left my mojo in my favourite suit, mean ..... to the end of all time d'angelo is the chronic

  • Hypnotic....

  • Hey! I am so impressed at how he took my melody and turned it into something soooooo clearly melancholic

  • Favorite R&B song of all time. Hands down. The way my soul gravitates towards this track is fucking ridicious.

  • Yoda!!!!!!!

  • I love this man! I wished that he would get it together and come on back to us with that good music he always give us!

  • jesus, you hear that drumming? ?uestlove's fuckin amazing.

  • @911violentagro haha you got D'Angelo-ed :P

no Questlove (or Dilla) on this track, D produced this beat ;)

  • I checked this out because I just started getting into Charlie Hunter. If the rest of the album is this hot, definitely worth my money.

  • @thelonelyweeblo Voodoo is worth every penny its a classic no souL album has been comparable to this album...PERIOD

  • @keishaorr98 people always look at my crazy when I express those exact sentiments.

  • @Freedom1804 yes i know the feeling but thats alright thats just us and good music has inspired us to spread the word

  • S O U L Q U A R I A N S

  • @t0iletrees Endless Love !

  • Woooooooo my jaaaaaaaaaam!!!!!!

  • This jam had done worked a root....a root 2 the very pit of heart w/ knows no soul....

  • jimi hendrix was re-incarnated @ 3:15. reverse guitar magic..remember this was recorded at jimi's studio. PURE MAGIC.

  • I wish he would come back out :( 1 of my faves !

  • A real music fan listens to a 6 minute song lol

  • IS THAT SPANKY PLAYIN THAT GUITAR?.....THE "GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER EVER"...RIP

  • @prettebrownskin4432 Actually, it's Charlie Hunter. x] Very talented musician. Spanky, mang. I do hope he's resting in peace though - a true groove master lost u_u

  • @TENORBOY09 Handz DOWN!

  • love this song sooo much... d'angelo is a musical force to be reckoned with

  • nice & amooth joint ..

  • The only reason I don'tn like this song is because I listened to it so so much when I used to deliver parts every day all day this one song man.... O.k. just one more time then I quit I swear. Fingers crossed

  • 1. Prince 2. D'angelo 3. James Brown ...... and this is coming from a texas raised whiteboy ... aint nothing like a little soul

  • @DestinStrahan If you're talking about soul than Marvin Gaye has to be there. He's the best musician period in my mind...from what I've heard. I was never really feeling Prince.

  • the falsetto is unreal....prince on crack [perhaps]...very nice!

  • one of my fave D'angelo tracks

  • This vato is fuckin bad!!! I dig all his smooth music, lots of old school influence in his music, homie knows what time it is, he gets down!

  • always loved this song; been a big fan of d'angelo for a long time, and voodoo's one of my favorite albums ever. but right now, just today, i've understood and felt the soul of this joint more than ever...and heartbreak is a bitch.

  • i listen to d'angelo during a breakup or at night on long roadtrips it relaxes me...

  • i love this song

  • I love the way album is like one long song...each song ends where another one begins. And at the end of the album it sounds like its rewinding itself. VOODOO is one of my favorite CDs of all time! its in my car right now!

  • When it comes to spiritual art forms, one must not create for personal gain.

  • @faintmelody OMG, right!

  • This is one of The most amazing songs ive heard from D'angelo, it Provokes Emotion In a way You never thought it would if your living out the lyrics of what he's singing,!

  • my favorite song on the album. been trying to figure out the guitar riff for years. charlie hunter is the co writer on this track and the one responsible for the great guitar track. I'm close but still need help. any one with help please hit me up

  • Love this shit right here man! Come back D'angelo man!

  • A very hypnotic song, definately well ahead of it's time. D'Angelo is a musical genius. Hopefully he can come back strong but if not, he made his mark. His talent is scary good. I knew first time I heard this that it was something out of the ordinary. A song you can listen to and just absorb the lyrics. Then listen again and get lost in the eclectic sound of the music.

  • hairs are standing on my neck. reminds me of a gyal back in the day

  • dat freakin' bass is killing me... and the rvrse effected in the guitar.. omfg!!!

  • i love the vibe of this song

  • Come back!

  • As soon as I contained the drool threatening to spill and compose myself after a quick flashback to how many of my homegyrls n I used to bet who'd 'he marry' once meeting at the concert he held in D.C.....I was just about to say the same darn thing!!!!! GREAT GOGGA-MUGGA, he's good! We NEED him in this game like never before! Even after hearing and sympathizing with a sistren whose album depicted some conflicts of interests....I still got mad love for this brotha!

  • one of my first favorites by d'angelo. it just captured me in a way i can't describe. This is when i first began to open my mind not just to music but everything

  • roy jackson from germany

really, really, really spent much time falling in love with voodoo and i loved it. it really turned out to be the work of a genius mastermind, THX D u dont know how much this means to me ... it took us too long to wait D!!!

In the name of love and war took my shield and sword

From the pit of the bottom, that knows no floor

Like the rain to the dirt, from the vine to the wine.

From the Alpha to creation, to the end of all time.

  • this is the sickest song, I think my ears have heard from D! This was the one cd that made heavy rotation during my sypher days! -- Thanks for sharing...

  • I left my mojo in my favorite suit! She done worked a root! I the name of love and war... took my shield and sword... from the pit of the bottom... that knows no floor... like the rain to the dirt... from the vine to the wine... from the alpha of creation... to the end of time.

  • Excellent sound quality...

  • My Fav also i love the shhhh out of this joint!

  • This song inspires me to work some root on on my other half...Love this tune!

  • i love his style of recording

    reminds me of Prince

its how he uses a entire chorus of his own voice

u may here 20 D'Angelos at one time doing different things vocally

    i love that

  • I always loved that aspect too. I've been noticing anthony hamilton(who used to be one of D's backup singers)doing the same thing. Alright and Untitled are superb examples of overdubbing

his own vocals. I just squeal in delight at that fact. D's too damn talented for words~!

  • @Edrice91 you are right

  • @Edrice91 Yeah, that harmozing that he uses shows the influence that Marvin Gaye, most likely, had on him. Marvin was the king of hamonzing as well as a whole lot of other things.

  • @Edrice91 great lyrics on this chorus, too

  • @Edrice91 So very true. I pray that this brotha come back soon. We could use some good music nowadays

  • @Edrice91 U DAMN RIGHT HIS HARMONIES ARE AMAZING MY FAV ARTIST HANDS DOWN

  • if i were to compile a list of my best n favorite top 100 songs

  • She done worked a root ,done worked a root, that will not be reversed.

  • listen to solo at 3:15 on walkman!! The panning is tyte...

  • One Of My Favourite Songs Period.

  • Said, I went, said I went to the doctor

The man told me there ain't nothing wrong

    Said, I beg to differ

I've been feeling this pain much too long

    Oh yeah

I feel my soul is empty

My blood is cold and I can't feel my legs

    Hey Yeah

I need someone to hold me hold me

Bring me back to life before I'm dead

  • I don't know why but ever since I first heard this album, This part of this song has been my favorite out of the whole album... Its weird you put it up but cool too.

  • Went karaoke'ing in Manhattan. Was hoping either this song or 'Higher' would've been in the big book-o-songs they had. Boy was I disappointed.

  • NEW MILLENNIUM BLUES

  • OMG...THIS IS MY SONG....

  • i remember the first time i heard this song. i had just unwrapped the cd popped it in and listened. when i got to this track i was probably stuck on it for 2 hrs. definately the best D track period.

  • PINO

  • Might have been Spanky Alford.. Not really sure though... be the effect u hear is like reverse effect... CRAZY !!! I'm Just like u send chills down my spine too .. LOL

  • one smooth mutherfuker

  • jdashie, it is actually charlie hunter playing an 8 string guitar that plays the bass and the guitar riff. it borders on unbelieveable.

  • temazo

  • The chorus of this song is so poetic. The young man got skills, plain and simple

  • read the credits to see who wrote it, you'll be surprized...HINT:x-girlfriend

  • now that you pointed that out, i can def hear her style in there.

  • Wow, I didn't know that. I am a big of fan of hers as well. Talented people!

  • In the name of love and war took my shield and sword

From the pit of the bottom, that knows no floor

Like the rain to the dirt, from the vine to the wine.

From the alpha to creation, to the end of all time.

  • Where is this cat and why ain't he making music? There is a place for a talent like this in the market today as evidenced by the void he continues to leave in his absence.

  • he has a new album out, it came out in 08'

  • D's last release was a "best of" compilation album. D hasnt had a real release since Voodoo. another unofficial mixed tape called Yoda was released a while back too but its not an official release from D.

(Fun D Fact: "Yoda" is the term that D uses to collectively refer his great inspirations of music. Marvin Gaye, Prince, Al Green, Sly, George Clinton, etc.)

  • what's it called???

  • @leeml7553 i wish he'd stay outta trouble... if it aint dui's its posession of 420.

he's wasting talent. d'angelo is once in a lifetime.

  • @illznick yeah i'm in the same boat...he's goona get it togetha tho

  • @lanigirod i hope so dude. we need his language of soul.

  • I love this and can ride to this today. I love the live band sound to it; the kids love it but the wife ain't feeling it as much... it's about the music man!

  • I really love this song. One of my all-time favorites.

  • who is the riffing at the beginning? Pino??

  • genius...!
