Thats perfect, its a shame RTD went and ruined the Master.
Derek Jacobi was brilliant as the Master its a shame he couldnt remain in the role, John Simm is a good actor and could have played him so much better if he had been given a better script.
The Master is not just an evil version of the Doctor, there is already an evil version of the Doctor (the Valeyard), the Master is meticulous, never leaves anything to chance, sinister yet suave and not an evil David Tennant.
He wasn't bad toward the last part of The End of Time. He's doing a lot of snively little bargains and such trying to make himself look good, and he reminded me quite a bit of Ainley's master from The Five Doctors.
Brilliant idea, brilliantly executed. The Master's theme from 1972 fit that scene perfectly. Murray Gold is good, but the old skool synth still fits my favourite programme a lot better.
Subtle and chilling. The new series really could use more music like this instead of that over the top made for orchestra stuff. Unfortunately, Utopia is an intense climactic and powerful episode and thus works with big music. You should've put this music to something like Blink, then again, that already has music like this.
That's FASCINATING. Apparently the new Who would be a lot more like the old one if they'd just chuck that OTT Pirates of the Caribbean/ Lord of the Rings soundtrack out of the window, and had the entire soundtrack done by some hapless geezer locked in adamp cupboard with an old Moog synthesizer.
The music was a bit too loud in my opinion (sort of covered up the "voice" of the essence of the Master and made it hard to hear it), but the actual music selection itself was really nice. It gave it a dark and ominous feeling that fit well with the scene.
That was excellent. What do you use to separate the audio tracks? TIA!

THAT... is bloody BRILLIANT!

Except that you guys are all judging this as if it's a standalone scene and nothing else is going on at the same time.

This is better than Murray Gold's music...in fact even the other (mostly hideous) music from 'The Sea Devils' is better than Mr. Gold's rubbish.
HimWotMustBeObeyed 1 year ago
Well this is more the Master's hypnotism theme, which can be found in the Sea devils soundtrack.

OK, I NEVER Remember that in the episode

The music is great. From Revelation of the Daleks for anyone wanting to know.

actually it's the masters hypnotic theme from the sea devils
Cyberrob 3 years ago
Oh yeah. It's similar to Revelation but you are right.

As I said many a moon ago, the new series would be far, far better if it had dark synthy music, like the sea devils and the JNT era.
This is so awesome you MUST do more!!

It would of been interesting if they'd done this - although I believe taking a quote from the old series is enough. Still, this was brilliant. :D
