  • Did Farmer-Patrick also break the world record on this race? How gutted would you be to break the WR and still come second?

  • @fantastischfish Previous record was 52.94(Marina Stepanova),so yeah, she just went under. Must be a rarified (and unwanted) club membership. Can think of John Walker and Said Aouita...must be plenty of others? Oh,that Ovett 1500m in 1980 where the first three went under! Going under a WR and coming third....is that even worse!?

  • @fantastischfish Strictly speaking Farmer-Patrick didn't break the WR....because Sally Gunnell had just set a new one less a second earlier ;-)

  • Is it wrong that I used to fancy Sally Gunnell?

  • Sandra Farmer-Patrick must be sick of this lady :-)

But yes, loved watching Sally Gunnell race all those years ago.

  • just gr8!

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Essex Ladies represent!

  • Love Sally Gunnell. She always gave it everything. Thanks for sharing this.

  • @ZuluChiefBatanga she didnt know she had won, did you see her expression when she did find out she had won.

  • @idontsignin It wasn't a photofinish, so therefore her position and time would have been known as soon as the race was over. The commentators immediately knew she had won in a new WR, and they weren't even trackside. At the presentation, she didn't look any happier - something was definitely up.

  • @ZuluChiefBatanga have you seen her interview on equinox, i will post it to you. and there is something call deep satisfaction all people show different types of emotion in that situation

  • If I remember rightly she is one of the select British greats who have held Olympic, World, European, Commonwealth and World Record all at the same time. Her company? Jonathan Edwards, Linford Christie and the great Daley Thompson. Not a bad group. Well done Dame Gunnell (you should be!)

  • @Daz555Daz linford never broke the world record for the 100m, he was like 1 hundredth of a second away from the world record.

  • @idontsignin yeah good spot with Christie.

  • Nice one Sally

  • thanks for the memories sally, you are a true legend of the sport,
