What school? I have never met a zen practitioner who actually believed that there were any individual souls to migrate. The way it makes sense in context is to say "I am born and reborn, over and over" knowing that "I" is the universal "I". In this way, the creative force of the universe is just stating the fact that each new life identifies itself with the center of the universe.

Actually, the people that peddle religion and gain from it are probably far more intelligent than those that follow them, and exploit them as such. I doubt they even believe in religion. It's important to draw a distinction between beliefs about facts and beliefs about values. I think religious people interpret the factual truth of evolution as implying that it is a good value system. This kind of misunderstanding is the same thing that causes them to interpret their book of values into a book of facts. The distinction is very important but not something I think many people understand.
