I just started longboarding, well not really started yet, but i have a set of orangatang from my cruiser and ordered a Krackedskull scimitar. So my question is, how to make a effective drift?? does the glove helps? coz i know i have tried it on my cruiser without glove and it just like grabs on to the floor. Is it that i need to break into my wheels more? how can i do that?
get all the protect gear you can, gloves of course even tho people are now days doing some crazy stand up slides. I learned to slide when I just started to go fast enough, many have said that speed is the key... when you start to learn how the wheels loose its grip you can throw some sweet drifts and slides in lower speeds also... or maybe you just want to go faster faster and faster :D o'tangs should do a nice drifty slidy ride...
@reinohh alright thanks bro, i mean i already got a few hardslide experience from the short boards, but that's like 100a .. now that i try to use soft wheel to powerslide, it feels like trying to grind a curb with a shortboard but then not using wax... it's either that or i can rip my nose back around and only makes a 90 turn slide -.- oh well i guess i will pump and crave mine a bit to let the wheel break in then go flying and then sliding
yeah thats really different with normal skateboard and hard wheels... with that you pretty much need to keep all the weight on the board to try to prevent it not sliding off you feet. with softer wheels you need to get some weight off your wheels... like lay back more and maybe kinda trhow your hand up right when carving to slide.. anyways there some good tutorial vids on tube if you search.
The way I started to learn was very easy and simple. Find a decent hill, get low and carve from side to side holding your board on the turns and the other hand to slide with. Tighter carves will make you slide more and go slower. Once you get a feel for it then try a Coleman.
its also a whole lot easier to learn with a actual corner since a pre drift is done before a corner. keep you shoulders straight and in the direction you want to go and you wont come out 180. also another tip that help me BIG TIME when learning especially on toeside, instead of focusing on swinging your whole board back around try just kicking out your front foot to hook back up. once you got that just practice evreyday and make that shit look nice and clean and steezy
Hey guys, whenever i try to drift (toe-side or heel-side), i always end up doing a 180 from goofy to regular. Is there something i should do so i can get back to goofy stance? I don't have a problem riding switch but it I should learn to do pendies and stuff someday.
Should i go faster? Hope someone can help me, thanks. :D
usually the 180 happens when people start t drift and turn their shoulders aswell, what you need to do to drift is keep your shoulders straight and you will drift the back, and then go straight back to startin position
speed always helps. one thing to remember is not to over-rotate your shoulders like babd34 said. for heelside, try and keep your shoulders facing straight, or into the apex of the corner and LOOK where you're going/want to go. remember to push out with your back foot rather than rotating your whole body like a pendy.
for toeside, keep looking towards your turn. don't look backwards. turn, grab the board, weight on your glove hand, and push your back foot in the direction you're going. your back foot will be infront of your front. weight your back foot to bring the board back.
@wauggicsy had the sam problem... did my first drift then was like "oh shit i cant ride switch!!" haha try experimenting with not traveling the board/body all the way to the 180 mark and hold it at a 90 then ease back your back weels so they catch grip and suck you back... or do full 180 then learn a new slide that gets you into your original stance... 2 180s make a 360 YAY MATH... easiest to do: 180 coleman to a 180 toe slide (which ever way you ride)

Your holding them to long. Try working on hooking up faster to keep speed. Pre drifts are all about scrubing off some speed.

@D33v0 75a's can still slide as good as 83a's you just have to brake em in properly and be good at sliding

you probably figured it out by now but if you look back over your shoulder in the direction you want to turn it really helps.
