  • Urdu and Hindi do share some words but urdu is much more polite and if you speak fluent urdu its not similar to hindi at all maybe 1 or 2 words here or there but i cant understand when they speak fluent hindi that shows that the languages are different.

  • sweet =)

  • Urdu and Hindi are two different standardized forms of Khari Boli from Western U.P in India. Pure urdu or hindi is rarely spoken in either nations, its a mix called Hindustani which was the actually word of mouth spoken by the common people for a long time before scholars decided to make Urdu more resemblance to Farsi and Hindi more to sanskrit. You should realize that URDU was born in UP and is also an official language of India. The cultural ties are stronger than people like to think.

  • All lanugagues from south asia stem in one way or another from hindi . Last time I looked pakistan where urdu is mostly spoken was in south asia and not the middle east. Urdu was mainly developed in western Uttar Pradesh, India, which is the seat of Hindustani languages in the Indian Subcontinent. All because its written in arabic style its roots are from India during the mugal times , ok.

  • Urdu isnt from Hindi...

    Urdu is entirely different

  • @aimnov nonsense. Urdu and Hindi are extremely similar. Both have roots in Sanskrit, Urdu though takes most of its vocabulary from Persian and Arabic while Hindi relies more on Sanskrit.

People who speak Urdu and Hindi have no trouble understanding each other at all. In fact they would probably think they are speaking the same language if talking to one another.

  • @mjcrobinson

urdu isnt drived from hindi at all , it is drived from farsi

pure hindi is totally totally different from the pure urdu lughat, agar kathan ilfazaat ka istamaal kiya jaye tou yaqeeeni toor kafi tar indians ko samajh nai aie gee.

plus the indian movies are in URDU so offcourse indians will understand urdu better. Many indians cant speak urdu better. there is similarity BUT they roots are different. Pardon

  • @aimnov, they are certainly two different languages. But to say they are "entirely" different is an extreme overstatement. I would say that the difference is maybe similar to that between Russian and Ukrainian, maybe even less (I have some knowledge of all 4 of those languages...)

  • @75noodles

urdu's alphabets are different...they arnt even close to hindi...they are arabic letter that make up the literature of Urdu.

most of it is Farsi...if a person is speaking farsi and if you know how to speak good urdu...you can well understand what she or he is saying.

the typography...the accent....the pronunciation is entirely different. Even the hindi speaking cant pronounce the Urdu Letters. SO yes there is big difference. It aint one!

  • @PamukPrensesXXX counting is almost the same in almost all Indo-European languages. I told my Russian-Ukrainian boyfriend the numbers in Urdu and Hindi, and the 1-10 are extremely similar. There are also similarities with French, Spanish, etc.

  • Ganz einfach gesagt, sind Hindi und Urdu mehr oder weniger dasselbe (=Hindustani).

Hindustani ist eine äußerst schöne Sprache!

  • just like hindi :)

  • Because Hindi came from Urdu....before it used to be sanskrit or shub hindi
