It's probably the 1994 Northridge Earthquake that made Psyclone such a terrible ride.

It suffered structual damage from the earthquake and despite getting repaired for safe operation, the ride dynamics were never the same. Thus, giving Psyclone a shitty reputation.

I rode this once. Don't remember much about it except that it was rough. Wasn't really anything spectacular about this coaster like there is with Goliath or Viper or X2 or Tatsu. Glad it's gone. Rode Terminator: Salvation a couple months ago. Great coaster, not a lot of big drops, but lots of speed. Glad Psyclone is gone.

This was actually the only wooden coaster that B&M ever built. Pretty obvious why that is. Stick to what you do well.

Partly correct. Psyclone was designed by Dinn Corporation (infamous for designing big rides that inevitably aged horribly), but used B&M trains for most of its lifetime. And the trains were a large part to blame for the roughness, although the track didn't help either.

Really should have been condemned after the quake, but obviously it wasn't the only issue.

@Miserlou57 I know I'm not who you targeted for this question but I can give you an answer. The Dinn corporation, who designed this ride was infamous for building rides that aged horribly. An another example of a Dinn ride is the Predator at Darien Lake which I rode myself and will never ride again. Combine this with the damage this ride took from the Northridge earthquake and the heavy B&M trains that weren't really great and it all destroyed this ride. Rest in pieces Psyclone.

@Miserlou57 > There can be multiple things that make it a rough ride. You can't factor in the fact that a wooden coaster is supposed to toss you around some though. I thnk the biggest factor in what makes a coaster rough is simply bad engineering...cutting corners where they shouldn't with the design. A prime example is Son of Beast at KI...it would be an awesome ride if they had engineered it properly.

i was talking to this dude dat worked at magic mountain. Me n my frends were talking 2 him while he was on his way to his station. we were asking about closed rides. alot were removed for safety reasons. when we asked about cyclone, he said it was DEFINATELY for safety reasons

The ride itself would have been smoother if Magic Mountain checked the track. Unlike other woodies, this coaster had heavy B+M trains. The trains took their toll on the structure, and Magic Mountain watched that and not the track bed, thus leading to a bumpy, painful ride. If Magic Mountain properly maintained it, it would be running and pleasing riders today. *And how DARE you call any Summers and Dinn coaster a "Monstrosity" >:(

I road this 8/14/93 and it was a great ride but after the 98 quake this ride was aweful. I returned to the park 11/17/06 and road it agine. To my surprise at first I couldent beleave it was empty. When I got my go on the ride I was in so much pain I thought I was casterated!

Yeah, I have been on that ride.. that thing was indeed painfull. And I rode in the back, which I think makes you take on all the forces of the train! I had skin peeling off my hands becuase I tried to hold on the bar, since I didn't want to fall out. lol.
